The competition
The competition will be a bracket style battle with lead and chase tandems judged by other competitors using (Drone Mode).
The bracket placement will be selected by random draw, no qualifying will be done.
For further competitions the brackets will be re-randomized for the next events.
Tandem
Tandem round is based on two (2) runs in a Head-to-Head format, with competitors paired up based on the random bracket position. The higher bracket position will lead the first run and the second led by the lower. The critical success factor is for the lead car to be able to run the course without error while being pressured by the following car. The following car is to “outdrive” the lead car.
Driver consistency during a tandem battle is critical.
Initiation Points
A set point on the course where drivers should be entering drift. This point will be marked with either a structure or a players car in (Drone Mode) Drivers have two ways of entering the course.Side by Side- Driver can be up next to the lead car during the 60mph roll in.
Single File- Driver is behind the lead car to initiate drift. Closer the better. Points will be deducted for contact made before initiation.

Goals of the lead car
Lead Car- must be able to clear the course without making any errors due to distraction or pressure by the following car. Here are some following goals:
0. Run the pre determine line shown at the beginning of each event.
0. Run a high scoring run- contact to clipping points and proximity to outter zones are key, maintain angle throughout the course while maintaining speed.
0. Run a chaseable lead run- Maintain a smooth line through the course, giving the chase car equal opportunity to perform.
Goals of the chase car
Chase Car- Needs to run the same line as the lead car, If the lead car is off-line, the chase car will gain advantage points by staying on the correct line although will not be deducted points for following the lead car. The chase car should keep as close to the lead car as possible without contact to gain the advantage. Here are some following goals:
0. Initiate no later than the lead driver Maintain close proximity to the lead driver with as much duration as possible.
0. Match or better the lead drivers angle.
0. Mimic the lead driver’s transitions and line throughout the course.
Judging
Points system- Each run will begin with each driver having 100pts. For every mistake made points will be deducted from this score. Driver with higher score after both runs with be the winner. If judges feel that both runs made were too close to call a (OMT) one more time will be the result and the two competitors will come back to run again at the end of the round.
Areas you will be judged on
- Line- Is the ideal path a vehicle must take on the course and is marked by Inner Clipping Points, Outer Clipping Points, and Transition Zones.
- Inner Clipping Point- is reference points on the course where the vehicle’s front bumper should come as close as possible to the reference point.
- Inner Clipping Zone- is reference points on the course where the vehicle’s front bumper should come as close as possible to the reference point until zone ends.
- Outer Clipping Points- (Touch and go) also reference points and scored by determining how close the corner of the vehicle’s rear bumper comes to the point.
- Outer Clipping Zone- is reference points on the course where the vehicle’s rear bumper should come as close as possible to the reference point until zone ends.
- Transition Zones- is areas on the track where the direction of the line changes and vehicles must change the direction of their drift.
- Angle- measures the amount of counter-steer and relative rear slip angle a driver uses through the course. Steering adjustments must be minimal. The Transition from corner to corner must be smooth.
- Style- is the general feel of the pass and how well the other three criterion are executed through the entirety of the lap. This is the most subjective criteria, and judges will look for the most “excitement” that the driver can bring. Drivers should be able to show full control of the car at all times. The Style is broken down into 3 categories.
Initiation is quick to angle while being consistent as possible with no mistakes.
Fluidity is keeping control of your car without making any corrections in line and angle while keeping wheels close to lock to lock.
Commitment is keeping good throttle control, wall tap or any extreme situation with full confidence. - Maintaining Speed-Drivers must be able to maintain the appropriate speed. This mainly goes for the lead car to help the follow car give a proper chase run. Brake checking or any other ways of the car slowing down in an area that a driver shouldn’t be slowing down, This will result in a deduction or zero. On each course, there will be areas where a driver should be maintaining speed
Points Deductions-
- Clipping point- Allowing the front or rear bumper of your vehicle to glide over the clipping point is NOT a deduction. While dropping a tire past the clipping point will result in a -1 point deduction per tire dropped.
- Zones- The tire of the vehicle should be a deep into the zone as possible without dropping off track. -1 point deduction per tire dropped off course.
- Overtaking- According to Formula D regulations… overtaking is NOT encouraged, doing so will result in 0 score for that run. Overtaking is only permitted when the lead car makes a mistake such as coming to a complete stop, going completely off course, or spins out entirely-(as long as spin is not caused by chase driver).
- Speed- A lead driver is to maintain a constant forward momentum through the course unless necessary to slow down for tighter turns. If the lead driver is caught locking up all brakes (parking) his car in a section of the track where acceleration is needed, points will be deducted at the judges discretion based on how it effected the chase car but can result in a 0 score if the act is bad enough.
- Angle- Maintaining proper angle through out the track is a key factor, lead or chase drivers will receive a points deduction if angle is lost or if a continuous drift of broke. If a driver completely straightens out before the completion of the run. They shall receive a score of 0 for that run. The only time this is not a result is when it is absolutely
- Proximity- Chase cars shall not make contact with the lead car. You are trying to stay as close as possible throughout the run without making contact. If a lead car spins as a result of significant contact made by a chase driver the chase driver will be seen at fault and receive a 0 score for that run. While a lead driver will gain points if they are able to maintain the drift after contact is made.
Any and all questions can be brought to my attention or a member of Team Voodoo for further consideration.
