Don't have a PS5, so I never bothered, but just checked out GT7 on YouTube

…and now I’m even more frustrated with this bare-bones, corporate excuse of a racing title.
I would kinda love to see that nickname stick, Forza Corporate, when people talk about this game in the forums or on Youtube… I think that’s an excellent way to differentiate it from earlier Forza releases because it captures everything there is about this game in one, perfectly descriptive word… Corporate… and also let’s Microsoft know we’re not quite as dumb and oblivious as they seem to think we are, migrating like some mindless herd around Game Pass’ increasingly sub-par offerings.

Back on point…

The production value and passionate attention to detail and immersion that is Forza Motorsport 4 made me a loyal fan of the franchise and kept me ‘in -house’ sort of speak. There wasn’t anything better at the time and the game quite literally left Gran Turismo 5 in the dust.
Well, dust settles and things change and after spending about a half-hour or so watching Gran Turismo 7 videos on You-Tube… because the complete lack of any sort of lasting engagement, satisfaction or ‘fun’ I’ve been having with Forza Corporate absolutely begged me to ask, ‘what else is out there’… it’s remarkable how utterly forgettable this game is compared to its competition, sort of like two generations ago when Forza Motorsport 4 raced to the top of the hill.

What that game did, something that put every other console racing title behind it at the time, was the way it incorporated ‘car culture’ into the experience. It was more than just picking up a controller and racing, it was also about the cars themselves and the people that made them… their individual histories, the ability to explore an automobile inch by inch in the showroom, get inundated and lost in engine details and needless facts that were forgotten as quickly as they were read but made the player feel ‘engaged’ in the overall experience.

None of that is in Forza Motorsport… Forza Motorsport 2023… Forza Corporate.
…but I did find it here, in a game I haven’t paid attention to for well over a decade.

Guess it’s time for a new garage

Yep it’s as you’ve said, the passion for cars in the competitors game absolutely destroys FM. I can’t help but be sucked into the car culture that oozes out of GT7. Every single car has a small bio and when you get into that car you can get more info on it by going to the cafe in it!

That’s not even mentioning the little bios you can get by clicking (more info) while shopping for the cars in either the used car dealer, brand central, or legend car dealership! People wonder why it’s taking so long for cars to be released in GT7, quality and passion is why.

I was blown away watching that GT7 video… it’s a big part of what I was hoping this game would be; not just a console racing sim but also the premiere ‘car’ game for gamers that love cars.

in place of that, we get a game developed by folks that drive themselves to work in cars, but obviously couldn’t care less about them in comparison to some imagined ‘bottom line’ on the corporate profit sheet.

after watching that GT7 video, I feel like deleting this game off my Series X purely out of spite… that’s how disappointed I am now at the product Turn 10 and their directors at Microsoft have released.

Other than Forza Horizon 5, there hasn’t been a single, major exclusive for the Xbox Series X and Game Pass that has met public expectations, this game being their latest failure… did these fools think gamers weren’t going to compare the two and walk away more impressed with Gran Turismo 7… and maybe move their money that way??

Everyone likes to put GT7 up on a pedestal, but it has its own set of problems. Alot of the same problems as this game actually. Honestly the only thing it hands down does better is the car models. And they have an encyclopedia entry worth of info on all the cars which is nice I guess…

I would love to play it but it’s certainly not worth dropping $500 on a PS5 for the privilege. At that point just build a PC, there are so many more options in that space.

never played GT7 so I can’t say for sure, but I’d be willing to bet that the physics in Forza 2023 are better than those of Sony’s game… but that’s kind of the operative word right there isn’t it?

game

a good game holds your interest, keeps you coming back because it’s more interesting and engaging than it is dry and accurate.

if people put GT7 on a pedestal that simply means they have fun playing it, problems and all… a simple look around this forum kinda shows it’s the opposite for Forza.

it’s a bad ‘game’

Don’t put GT7 on a pedestal.

It’s taken a year and a half to become the game it is today. It launched with a lot of things worse than FM. The grind (economy) was egregious, and in-game prices for cars so high, they were pushing real money microtransactions (macro at $20-$40 USD) because they knew players were fed up with it and wanted to skip it. Sound familiar?

The single player for GT7 is even worse than FM. The Cafe Menu books are the lowest amount of effort even below the paltry Builder’s Cup. You’re supposed to complete races to earn all the cars in a menu book, but what the game doesn’t tell you is you can just go buy them instead! There is no sense of progression. Period.

Also, before Sophy, the AI was worse than any FM. They were just moving blocks of digital steel with wheels racing around a track with no sense of purpose. At least, the lame Forza AI feels like your racing something… Even if flawed… Whereas the GT7 AI was simply “there” and didn’t even have to exist in a lot of cases. That’s how bad it is, and something most videos neglect to tell new players.

There is also less body customization, although, that isn’t too outrageous since GT7 focuses more on stock versions of cars. Tuning is about the same as Forza, but doesn’t play as big a factor in online as it does in Forza MP.

GT7 also focuses more on Japanese cars since it’s from a Japanese developer. While it has cars from around the world, it’s primary focus are Japanese versions, many of them right-hand seaters (not a problem if you’re from places outside North America).

My point is, yes. GT7 is a better game than FM. Hell, any contemporary racing game, be it on PC or console, sim, simcade or arcade is better than FM.

But it wasn’t always this way, and still has a long way to go to resemble the GT games of yesterday.

Some might disagree, but FH5 actually does contemporary car culture and “the fun of driving” better than most games. I know it’s regarded as a “kids” game… And it is in many ways… But if you look past that, you can’t deny it’s finally embracing what a lot of racing games/driving games don’t offer and that is it presents a fun and unrestricted sandbox for car lovers of all ages and backgrounds.

It’s a game and embraces the fact it’s a game while still offering a unique blend of car culture and even history depending on some of the stories you can play through.

I play GT7 in PS4,

Isn’t better than the FM, except because it is completely polished and don’t have bugs, don’t stucks or freeze…
The physics in GT7 are much worse than FM with the wheel.

But have some things better, the custom ailerons, much better than the same ugly Forza aileron.
They tell us the story of every car, love it.
They have off road races, love it.
And have Time Attack and hill climb cars, love it too!!!

I can’t talk about the graphics, because I play FM in Xbox Series X. A lot of bugs but much better than the Ps4 in general.
But the colours in GT7 are clearly better.

I play GT7 on PS5. The graphics advantage is clearly visible.

The modeling of cars for sure is better in GT7, FM is a little blurry, but the clima effect like rain, fog and sun ect and the tracks I think is so good in FM with the ray tracing.

For my visitors who can play FM and GT7 side by side, it becomes clear relatively quickly that GT7 is nicer to look at. The edges of the track and meadows in GT7 look like FM Trailer promised for the graphics

In technical aspects GT7 is best racing game ever, miles ahead of FM.
But…
When I finished the Café menus SP mode I was left with: “What now?”… In that way it’s similar to FM being simply not engaging for you to play…
When you go past the looks and technical excellence you are left asking yourself; “What now?..”

For me huge problem in GT7 is that stuck in 1997 chase cam… It’s simply too static and doesn’t allow you to enjoy your car like any Forza does…

PD dropped the ball in Singleplayer department and all of the realistic GT fans are complaining on that. For fankids it’s best game ever, but it’s not. It’s not even best GT ever.

I own PS5 and GT7, also PC and FM, and my comparison of them is simple… GT7 is far beyond FM in technical department, but it’s also just little bit less frustrating game than FM.

And with WRC Rally also being EA-ed…

It’s all around sad times for us, controller racers…

I wish Forza had all that care and glamour put towards the features like GT7. FM is wayyyy to dry and passionless there.

But I love., I mean absolutely LOVE the physics in this game. I mean LOVE. And have a hard time believing GT7 equals FM8 in physics. Based on reviews I’ve seen, many people prefer Forza physics for good reason. In fact, I KNOW FM has better overall physics because GT7 comparison videos clearly show it’s not nearly as detailed and nuanced (and realistic) when managing momentum going into an apex OR how to manage throttle coming out of an apex. FM allows you to play with the rear end much better and save it if you’re too hard on the gas where GT7 is notorious for spinning right out if you don’t enter or exit a turn right (I play with all assists off).

I can’t call a company “lazy” or say they “don’t care” when they put the most resources of any competitor into the most important factor: Physics.

FM also has better engine sounds than GT7. But GT7 allows you to rev engines in garage view. That alone is a perfect juxtaposition of both games. FM delivers in a fundamental aspect, but GT delivers in a fun car culture aspect.

If FM just puts SOME more effort into making the UI and “off racing” features more dazzling and car culture centric, then this game wil blow GT7 out of the water as far as I’m concerned. We may have worse car models, but we have more (and better) cars and they’r MUCH easier to attain. And they arguably are the most accurate simcade examples of themselves on track.

All we need is one big update addressing this stuff and FM can sweep GT imo.

The static chase cam in GT7 is horrible and a deal breaker for me. It looks like the car is sitting still and the camera/field just moves around. It doesn’t feel like driving.

Someone showed you can actually tweak it in settings to look closer to Forza. But NOBODY does chase cam as good as Forza. You can really see and feel the far better. Get nice angles of the body, etc.

Then the thing. The DRIVING in FM to me is the best in the simcade business. The physics model clearly took the most resources as it should.

I play controller on sim steering and tweaked all the advanced controller settings. I’m now getting the hang of drifting and my muscle memory is getting used to combat the snap oversteer. It’s a satisfying challenge.

The DRIVING in this game is sublime imo.

When I compare GT7 on my PS5 and Forza on my PC there is no comparison possible Forza is far ahead in terms of scenery and climate

what Forza lacks to compete with GT is a real career mode and a good community that knows fair play

GT 7 has no career mode. It’s just start from the back and chase the rabbit. There’s no AI at all the cars are hopeless.
With all Forzas faults I’ve put just over 300 hours into it. I’ve put over that into GT 7 but honestly I can’t play GT7 anymore. Forzas physics are miles ahead. In chase cam GT7 feels like the car is static and the track is moving. No sense of speed either compared to Forza. This is why it’s so gutting T10 made such a buggy mess of it but I’d still sooner play it than GT7. Let’s hope they gradually get on top of the bugs to find a great game in there.

Imagine we had a game that looks like GT7 and drives like FM…

What I really dislike on GT is the camera positions for driving. On FM I drive with the hood camera. On GT there is no hood cam only one on the roof. Absolutly hate it. Tried a couple of times to get into GT the last weeks/months but can’t play it more than 1 hour before I get sick of it

Yeah I couldn’t stand the chase cam at all in GT7, funny enough I’m fine with the roof cam though. Idk to each their own, chase far in Forza all day

PD may improve the chase cams in the future if enough people bring it up?

But be aware, most people, even on controller, drive in cockpit view because that’s how Kaz and PD want you to drive the cars for maximum immersion.

Forza has good controller physics, but they weren’t always this way. The physics in FM are the best they’ve ever been in the entire series, but it’s taken eight games and 18-years to reach this point. For the most part, the Motorsport games always felt like you’re driving on ice, with no sense of weight, grip or downforce to the cars. The Xbox One generation of Motorsport resembles Projects Cars 1 &2 (the Madness engine), in a lot of ways.
