Does FM7 on Xbox One X look better on a 4k or 1080p monitor?

It actually could be the TV at fault.

HDR is very fractured at the moment and not all HDR screens are made equally. VESA has just introduced a HDR standard for the industry, DisplayHDR, and Samsung’s CHG90 is the first device to be certified DisplayHDR 600.

Everything prior to this is a lucky dip to how good, or not, your hdr implementation is/was.

I may have played GT back on the first PS. The lighting when braking does light up the screen but obviously the weather is biggest noticeable dynamic overall. Not just the rain and lightning but the FOG is so damn good if you dont know the track you may drive off the road lol. Quite clever

I agree about fog, clouds rain, reflections and that sort, they all look great in FM7. I am just very disappointed with how actual light coming from various sources is handled. Especially rear lights and brakelights. I was just doing some laps at dark night on the LeMans infield track and at some point i actually did not see that in front of me was a car driving, i was just concentrating on the car ahead of this car because i could see his rearlights whereas the car in front of me had none on it seemed. i just saw it when it drove past a flood light and thats just wrong, isn’t it?

Like others on here, I too own a 4k TV…49 inch display and I have tried FM7 on a 1S and the Scorpio 1X. The difference in crispness is very big indeed. The size of the screen you propose could be a little small to do the graphics justice. Ultimately HD is great but 4K is better… I do agree that certain lighting on smaller screens for brake lights isn’t easy to see on smaller screens…so…the bigger the better on 4K IMHO

4K much better indeed but not only that, the X1 enhanced games are a big step up. Even from FM5, to FM6 to FM7. The attention to detail and texture over the 3 games is CRAZY. X1 enhanced are the gold standard. Its almost like I dont even wanna play ones that ARENT enhanced

That “almost” will pretty fast turn into “for sure” if its not already that :))
I for one can’t play any 1080p games anymore having played since fall 2016 on 4k TV on PC and PS4 Pro.
All you need is a few times a really good UHD experience. Then you just can’t go back. Its like a revelation for your eyes.
All those people asking the question “But do you ‘need’ 4k?” are just those who either did not have that experience yet or just have not enough cash to upgrade to a 4k TV and a 4k-ish console/PC so of course they will unconsciously talk 4k down to feel better. Can’t blame them, but you gotta see through that tactic.

VR > pancake games. 4K is dead… (PC’s are doing 8K btw). 8K mainstream push comes end this year.

How much content is freely available in 4K… direct TV has 3 channels. HBO has none. Most broadcasts are still 480/540p or 1080 if lucky.

Is 4K worth it? 100% accurate answer: No.

1st world problems.

Mate its not about whether this is luxury or not. I think everyone agrees that life and death dont depend on whether you have a 4k gaming experience in your home setup or not. Why are you even bringing this up? Just from a purists gamers perspective i was making the point that 4k in gaming is totally worth it. Just because it costs a few bucks and just because its 1st world problems doesn’t mean its not a delight for the eyes. And thats the only thing we debate here.
And also for movies. Netflix is continuing to push 4k content and every major movie is coming as uhd bluray and the difference to FHD is striking.
Of course 8k will come but it will be the same like with 4k. You will need another 3 years after it starts to even get a GPU that is capable of running 8k/60 in current games. 4k TVs were available a few years ago already but only 2017 with the 1080ti there was a GPU on the market that could reach ultra settings 60fps in 4k. And not even that card punches through all current games. It still struggles with games that are 30fps on consoles to bring them up to 60 in highest settings. AC Origins fully maxed is doing 40-45 fps ony my machine. So still way to go even for 4k/60 Ultra.

@Maler, don’t worry about getting into a longer discussion about this with Dust … he’s been saying the same thing all over these forums for a while now about 4K being dead and 8K being the new standard today and in the immediate future. There is a proven cycle of new technological development over the years and the cycle is just beginning for the dominance of 4K. 4K will be the standard and will constitute the majority of everything produced for the next 5-10 years. 8K may indeed be coming down the line but it’s still only in a testing and development phase now and no one is mass producing 8K hardware or content yet.

Obviously, every person’s situation is different and what is “worth it” varies from individual to individual … but 4K/HDR is clearly the best version of all gaming and media content available today and the amount of 4K content available is growing quickly every day. It is definitely “worth it” to me and I can’t imagine it’s not “worth it” to anyone who has the means and enjoys the best version of digital entertainment on the market today.

Has there been any talk of FM5, FM6 and FH2 getting X enhanced? Obviously there is some will to enhance older games, such as Halo 3 and Gears of War 3. You’d think it might not take too much work to at least allow FH2 to run at 60fps on the X.

I sure hope so. I’m hoping FM3 and FM4 get backward worked because I vividly remember how much I loved those career modes. I’m still waiting for the enhanced FH3, I can only imagine how crazy FH4 is gonna be. The details of an open world racer is gonna be insane

unlikely, cpu is barely better than OG Xbox one. OneX is an unbalanced upgrade.

I was thinking it’s probably GPU rather than CPU limited, but I’m just speculating there. I just did a quick search for info on what frame rates people are seeing with different CPUs for FH3 on the PC, and it doesn’t look like it needs anything special for the CPU to achieve 60fps.

Desktop cpu’s crush those little jaguar cores.

Yep. I say many crazy things all the time, based in alternative realities, with no actual relevance to anything.

As I keep saying. Mainstream Push begins end 2018, Not that 4k will be dead the instant that arrives. Content is being bypassed at 4K, whether you choose to believe that or not.

@Dust2Death … I wish you the best in your future gaming endeavors. I’m not going to be pulled into any more protracted discussions with you about the future of media and gaming. Your agenda is clear to see for anyone who’s observed your posts here over the months and years. You can link all the articles you want about the latest technology in a small corner of the gaming and media world … but the fact is that the industry simply is not where you think it is in terms of hardware, software and content being produced for the mass market. You’ve already contradicted yourself in two posts in this thread alone … without even going into debates on other threads and topics you’ve discussed here on the FM.net forums.

As I said, best of luck to you … this will be the last comment you’ll see from me on one of your posts.

I dont have an agenda. I dont have shares. I get no kickback.

Yea I say many crazy things, often years in advance, but I certainly, and most definitely have no agenda.

I post sources, sure, its how you validate a position.

Remember when I said SaaS and you all said nope.
Remember when I said Forza would be on PC and you all said nope.

2+years ago, Crazy right..

You may wish to check the ToS for the creators update…

How am I doing?

Samsung could have 8K TVs ready by the end of August

The limiting factor with any new technology isn’t whether its possible, its whether there is an infrastructure to support it and whether there is sufficient consumer interest to make it viable.

4K is taking years to even reach anywhere near the market share of 1080. Its poorly supported in terms of available content and media, and hardware is changing at such a rate as to turn people away from investing in it to any degree. There is also the bottleneck caused by download speeds in terms of streaming, storage requirements for monster file sizes and crazy load times. These issues need addressing before 8K stands any chance of being anything but a novelty for a relatively small number of people.

Its all well and good filming or coding at 8K but it simply can’t be delivered to the masses and I can’t see this being remedied any time soon.
