Agreed. If fixes don’t come soon, FH5 will be Anthem part 2. If it comes to that, Horizon series has no future. Loyal fans will abandon ship and won’t be coming back.
They’re inherently aware how much of a disaster the launch of this game has been. They know they’ve alienated many of their loyal fans and newcomers.
This game was to be THE flagship gamepass game over the holiday season. They will be getting it from us and from Microsoft. I can’t possibly comment on what their work situation is like now, but for the vast majority of the games creation they were working remotely. That must have been nigh on impossible to cope with and getting the game we got is frankly a miracle in itself.
Not being able to fix it within the first 2 months of launch is an indicator just how much is going on behind the scenes to fix this and it being a much bigger job than we think.
Are they getting any grief from Microsoft or Xbox though? Bearing in mind that it was MS/Xbox who were jumping with joy at the “10 million players” mark as well as the Game Pass figures and it being their most successful launch to date. Fom an Xbox and Microsoft point of view, the game is highly successful…once they have the money, i doubt they really care if it is broken or not…if it resulted in droves of people cancelling their Game Pass, then maybe they would pay attention (I suspect most GP subscribers already had it anyway).
I think, ultimately, the programmers themselves are probably embarassed by the game they released…beyond that, there have been no signs that those in charge are bothered one way or the other about how much of a disaster it has been…if they were bothered, we would have had proper apologies, not half-hearted ones that don’t really apologise
I just heard Microsoft paid $70 billion for Activision Blizzard. SEVENTY. BILLION.
They don’t care about any of this. They’ll throw money at the industry until they make Game Pass work. Their endgame is complete control, it’s monopoly, and I kept calling it since they bought Bethesda. The best way to do it is to vulture ailing companies with huge IPs.
It’s control over what you play (say goodbye to mods over time, when everything runs from the cloud), how you play (on any device, yes, but subbing to Game Pass, preferably using cloud) and when you play (tons of timegating, seasonals and Battle Passes, so you feel bad for missing out on that pretty skin).
And you know what? People will gladly hand the keys over to Microsoft. Because Game Pass is “free”. When people see the word “free”, they forget all reason and take everything for granted. Phil Spencer is the “good guy”. Nevermind how Halo 5, FM7, Crackdown 3 were all Spencer games, and Spencer pushed Ninja Theory to release that horrible online game they had.
In light of this, Forza Horizon is just a small drop in the ocean. A niche car game. An ant next to the elephant that is COD. They can afford to keep it at 10 million and exploit this new fanbase they had. They don’t care.
I hate to say it, but I have to agree. MS doesn’t care about quality games anymore, just marketshare. Feels a lot like the bad old days all over again with how EA was ruining great franchises left and right when they would snatch up successful small studios and run them into the ground in the name of profit (not that Activision hasn’t done plenty of that itself over the last decade).
Good thing there’s an enormous backlog of good old titles even if new games are largely trash, might need to dust off my copy of TDU2 and see what the modding community has done with it.
Unfortunately most of you did start noticing this too late already. But this has been happening since 2012. Im surprised people took so long to actually realize. In the moment they did start ignoring graphic issues that are a constant these days and see as “normal” (like bad aliasing, bad shadow casting, shimmering, etc) that was the day quality in videogames completely dissapeared.
And since many people keep supporting companies like Ms, well, i wonder how in hell some of you still expect things to improve, really. Escapes me
I don’t think that’s remotely true. I’m pretty sure they think it’s a resounding success with a few minor issues that are being blown out of proportion by a vocal minority.
I don’t remember that from the fh4 launch at all. There may have been something but there was no playlist and that’s where a lot of the problems are coming from this time. What I do remember is that they game was working fine and they kept creating problems with updates.
Sorry to break your bubble but this is happening since day 1 of release. And if you played FH4 you know that it doesnt get better. The only thing that matters are sells, and they had plenty. And they will again in FH6. Because…
Not seen anyone mention of people crying out for S2 at all personally. I have seen people complain about S2 a lot. S2 is very hard in FH5, I only use them when I have to. In FH4 S2 was my main car to drive.
The problem with S2 is the damn tire smoke. At least when it comes to online S2. I mean sure, a lot of people can’t drive well so they bump into and stuff but in S2 they normally lose control and go off the track so they are no longer in your way. The tire smoke on the other hand makes it near impossible to race. If your not in the lead you can barely see making it near impossible to race. This is why I never race S2.
