Custom championships never got added back to FH4. Don’t take these things for granted.
I’ve got a lot of very good things to say about the game and a lot of very bad things. The big negative for me is the game’s instability. Tons of crashes, to the point where some people can’t even get past the first few missions, massive bugs and graphical glitches resulting in massive stuttering in spite of the fact that the FPS counter says you’re in the 90+ range, massive conflicts with very basic and common programs, advertised features broken or missing at launch, settings toggles not functioning. Cyberpunk 2077 got rightfully railed for it’s launch bugs, but at least you didn’t have to perform a complex exorcism on your computer to get it to run.
The worst part is it’s no one thing. Different solutions are working for some people, and no solution is working for others. As much as it pains me to say it, because it’s such an amazing, beautiful game when it works, I agree with the OP. Don’t buy this game.
Agree that copy/paste of Custom Championship would be an easy move. Nevertheless, I would not take this for granted as it is not in the direction taken by the game.
imho, if we disregard the shame of making customers pay for debugging their product, game is not bad, the targeted audience is just different. FH mutated from core racing in open world to core casual kid games with cars. Even regarding cars, we went from finding the top car for a race type, class and weather to just collecting cars and having them all.
If I am sad racing in open world became a very secondary feature, I still see no alternative but too serious and claustrophobic games like FM, GT …
Started the game just this morning and already noticed that the menu for online indicates “unranked”, sounds weird for a game not supporting ranked, isn’t it ? They are not consistency gods for sure, they are the guys of reporting your own tunes thing but it could be an anticipation.
Noticed another thing, I went to create a new blue print and discovered a menu allowing to set rules based on collision with collider and collidee things. There is possibility to set newtons influence. I did not have time to test that further yet but looks as a good based to create clean races.
The reference to unranked may just be a leftover from FH4. Because FH4 was the same, even when they changed the scoring system to be based on race positions, it still had the same wording from FH3, race to gain influence. I think it still says that in FH5 too doesn’t it?
Yes, I’m assuming that there will be a substantial negative reaction to the lack of custom adventure - as there was in FH4. However, it’s possible that won’t be the case. My sense is that the core racers who pushed for it in FH4 are probably getting tired. We shouldn’t have to seemingly fight the development team each time to get a decent online experience. If they asked any focus group of FH4 players, there’s no chance anyone would have said “please give us no choice on the type of online race we do” in FH5, so why have they designed it in that way?
I’m not having major problems with crashes, so have been able to largely play the game uninterrupted. As a single player game, I’d give it a 7 out of 10 but it falls down drastically online.
Honestly just chill and give it a month or so if you’re unhappy. I refunded FM7 ultimate after a week as it was completely unplayable for that time frame for me, but as with most games today, they have some bugs to work out. I’m used to it and will just relax, it’ll be all good soon enough. It’s a major improvement in sound and graphics, and I’m happy about that.
Isn’t it supposed to be at least close to somewhat stable at release? You know… instead of letting the customer guinea pigs find everything that’s wrong with the game?
Did the preview footage show any of these issues? Lmao.
Yup, and thats the main problem. You new gamers are “used to it”. That doesnt mean its right or the correct way, you know? have you ever wondered why videogames these days are so broken? people are used to buy broken products. And companies know it. They dont invest efforts on doing things right, they dont need to.
And did you even play FH4? do you remember how much time they took to “fix” many many things and are you forgetting all the things they left unfixed?
And months? hahaha dont make me laugh…
that would be a matter of opinion. even though i respect yours, i disagree. granted, there are some bugs that need to be fixed (all modern games of such great scope and magnitude are bound to have them). personally i think after the game is patched properly, and the addition of new cars (if FH4 is any reminder, there were a ton added) and DLC this game has the potential to be the greatest of them all.
This one would be better if it wasn’t totally messed up I honestly can’t believe how horrible the optimization is on PC compared to H4. I doubt there will be any fix for that except to spend 3000 dollars on a video card to get the quality I can get now with H4. Must be a new batch of programmers working on this one that haven’t made a game before. The difference in performance between 4 and 5 at the same level of graphic settings is astounding. No excuse for it.
.
as an experienced modder of pc games i can tell you that is a fixable thing with updated textures and meshes. and btw, i have a $3k computer and the textures look fine to me. in fact, they are somewhat better than FH4. give it time. Turn 10 and Playground Games aren’t Bethesda, although funny enough they all now fall under Microsoft’s umbrella. i’m pretty sure they will fix any issues that have arisen.
The textures are fine (mostly) on extreme settings only for me and look the same as H4. The difference is that H4 gets 60-80fps and when H5 gets up to the graphic level of H4 it’s framerate on my hardware tanks. Lucky to keep 30fps. This is with no AA on H5 and 8xAA on F4 too (I forgot how fugly having no AA could be). There are some SERIOUS optimization issues with this game. Like I said I could spend 3 grand on a scalper card (the only way to get one) but I wouldn’t have to if the game was running properly. I can still play any game pretty much maxed at 1080p and have no frame rate issues but this thing is pathetic right now. I’m sure it will probably be ironed out somewhat but I’m going to be pretty angry at wasting 150 dollars until then.
Base game sure great… but multiplayer just as bad as fh4 was. fh3 multiplayer was by far the best. Who’s still playing the game near end of it’s life… the multiplayers that’s who… but we loose out at first. At least that’s what happened with fh4… I hope they make changes to fh5 like they did fh5
The thing is, that this is not the final product. As we come to know from FH4 the game will get a lot updates during its lifecycle, so we don’t really know how it will shape up after a year.
To be honest, games these days have become much bigger and more complex and based on the size of FH5 i would say you can’t expect it to have no issues.
Mind you it is also early access at the moment and i hope they will release a patch soon to fix a lot of the current issues.
All in all i love the new handling of FH5. Driving with a wheel is so much fun now!
Ouside of the major issue with the servers which has been improved dramatically (least till the influx of players tomorrow, is it tomorrow?), there hasn’t been a huge amount I can find to complain about but then I haven’t really played much online stuff (beyond Arcade). My only real gripes have been with the way the car just stops dead in it’s tracks when disconnecting from HL session (and sometimes just randomly)…rather jarring to go from 150mph+ to zero instantly and annoying when you are trying to do a Speed Trap! The Characters in the cutscenes seem to be a step backwards form FH4…they all look like they were a 5 minute afterthought rush job…granted, it’s a racing game but little things like that show how much they care (or don’t ) about the product.
I’d agree with Jezza that it’s a 7/10 game: Stunning visuals can’t completely cover the cracks that the game has.
Whilst it surely did have an impact, social distancing wouldn’t have stopped them doing their jobs…they could still code at home where it would be located on company servers so could be accessed by anyone. Sure it may delay some things but it won’t have been as big an impact as ,say, a shop.
Then again, we have no idea (and never will) exactly how PGG was impacted…maybe the Studio effectively shut down for months and this is why the game feels as if it was rushed at the last minute so it released before Christmas
I guess them acknowledging there’s any issues would give it media attention. Which would lead to bad publicity through press. Which would decrease sales/popularity.
Also has there been any update since the hotfix week ago that broke the game? I stopped playing because my steering wheel didn’t work anymore.
Since launch there has only been 1 hot fix update which largely was to address all the exploits to gain credits fast that were posted online everywhere. This was necessary but literally has done nothing to fix the problem as players keep finding new ways to exploit the game.
Unfortunately nothing has been done yet to address actual bugs. And nothing will be done any time soon. Any many bugs will never be fixed. Why? Just look at the issues still present to this day in FH4.
