I was playing multiplayer and there was next up Suzuka. My favorite track, which I know somewhat well. When game started someone crashed me and in a short moment I was at last position. I thought, okay that was it then. But bad drivers kept crashing and I was able to improve my position. When race ended, I didn’t make it to the podium but 4th place. Race as enjoyable still very much! Of course it is annoying when others crashes but I don’t stress it that much. To get really clean race, I think the option is then to set up private match and allow only clean racers in. There is many threads on this forum about this.

Lets be clear here, bad drivers are not the issue. Griefers are the issue. A bad driver is just bad and needs more practice to improve. They should never be banned for just being “bad” at the races. If however they go out on track and ram people off, deliberately cause big smashes or are just a generally “unsporting” driver who rams a lot they need banning.

So they can spectate and we cannot. When is spectate coming for us? Is it even coming for us?

It would be nice to see a thing at the top in the lobby saying “a vote to kick is in progress” or something along those lines. Plus, you only get like 30 seconds to votekick someone and I doubt the function even works. The F1 griefing in drift hoppers is absurd.

You can Vote to Kick a much as you want. In one or two Races comes the next stupid idiot an Kick everyone. I Report soooo many People since Forza Motorsport 6 and nothing happens. The same Guys one week later in the Lobby. I try it with Replays from the Race… nothing happens

It´s a shame for all fair Players.

It looks like we’re set for another 2 years of talking amongst ourselves about the state of Multiplayer; I’ve seen most of these topics come up during Forza Motorsport 6’s lifespan and since no tangible improvements have been made to the Public Hopper system in Forza Motorsport 7 we’re set to repeat ourselves.

So, rather than write something new, here’s a few (relevant) quotes from the past, now available in 4K and HDR

I was quite vocal on the forums about the negative Public Hopper experience in Forza Motorsport 6 but after seeing that no meaningful improvements have been made in Forza Motorsport 7 I’ve come to accept that this is going to be the way it is. I’ve given up trying to make feature/philosophy suggestions, Forza Motorsport does not consider the “clean racing enthusiast” their target market anymore.

We can’t change this environment and Turn 10 don’t see it as a priority either, so we just have to suck it up and deal with the potential for crashes (both accidental and deliberate) in every race.

If I want a guarantee of clean racing I’ll go play Gran Turismo Sport; I’ve already had plenty of good racing over there so far. I’m not going to get that in the majority of Forza Motorsport 7 races, as many players either lack the skillset or respect required for that kind of experience.

Nowadays most of my Forza Motorsport 7 Hopper races end up with me starting near the front, desperately trying to escape the pack and either winning on my own or having a battle with 1 other car. Pack racing is “dead” in this game for me unless I’m on the Forza Friday livestream with Mechberg and like-minded players.

[Mod edit - WSD - profanity and alluding to profanity is against the ToS}

1. There is no penalty for smashing people cars.

Pretty easy to understand. If there is no penalty then game incentives you to smash people cars ESPECIALLY if you can use other cars as brakes. This means those who want to actually race cleanly simply can’t do that because they are treated as brake instead of as opponent you need to best.

Obviously this is hard problem to resolve and very few games managed to do that correctly. Instead of looking for other games or trying to came up with new way to fix that problem let us look into what is ALREADY in game to fix that issue.

Damage. Forza by default has damage model that is pretty great imo. One harder smash and your car will barely do 60. If Turn 10 will switch damage on by default without ability to turn it off it means that people will no longer be able to use cars as brakes and run into first corner legs first because there will be high chance for them to end race completely. Same with outpushing people from corners or generally any contact since damage to your car means either way worse position or end of the race alltogether.

2. There is no way for people who look for different experiences to find their niche.

This means that someone who is looking for quick arcade racing need to play with someone who look for sim racing. People who want to smash cars while racing need to play with people who want clean racing.

Best way to divide it would be to create separate hoppers for sim racers. Or option in menu (like in assists “sim mode” or something like that) which would give you completely different hoppers from standard ones. So people who barely play game or look for arcade racing would be able from get go easily go to multiplayer and race while people who want to race cleanly etc. would have option in menu so that people who want that would use different hoppers alltogether.

3. Create better hoppers that would motivate people who smash people to play in those hoppers.

Create hoppers called destruction derby race, elimination with damage on, car soccer, head on ! etc. so that people who does want to do those things will have to ability to play game.

All of those 3 options do not require almost any work from Turn 10. IF all of them would be implemented it would more or less resolve current issues.

Then there are other options that require a bit of dev work:

Add rally cross stages for people to bump their cars while racing
Create penalty system for hitting opponent in back, cutting corners etc.
Add game modes where people could be rewarded for destroying other people cars with money etc. and use them in hoppers like destruction derby etc.

Overall while problem at first glace is hard to resolve i think that Forza 7 has all necessary tools already build in game for problem to be resolved.

With the state of multiplayer in the history & current world of Forza Motorsport, I think it’s safe to say that nothing is going to change. A griefer’s money is worth the same as a hardcore racing fan’s (except griefers probably game-share anyway, because you know, what’s better than ruining the race for people who enjoy racing clean & fair? Doing it for FREE!).
Because of this philosophy, I would like to suggest an online mode for this or future titles that would incorporate fun & skill into online multiplayer.
Has anyone ever watched The Race of Champions events? (or as I used to call it: The Challenge Michael Schumacher & Lose Event)
Pretty much THIS.
10-20 different circuits with 2-3 heats each race. Players would be pitted against 1 ghosted opponent on-track & also the rest of the lobby (similar to the current 2-man/woman drag events). Also having RNG selected standard or homologated cars to race with, giving a purpose to the countless ‘filler’ cars already diluting this game.
I guess you could look at it as a Live Rivals Event.
I believe this would be a great way for people to demonstrate their race craft as well as their versatility.

Before a T10 forum drone moves this to the ‘Features Wishlist’ thread where it’ll get little to no attention, I would like to possibly see some ‘General Discussion’ about the pros or cons to such a game type…
So, everyone, thoughts? Additions perhaps?

*Note.
If you’ve never witnessed ROC, I recommend you do that right now.

So basically a Ghost Lobby, which there are already a few.

I personally find ghost races to be pointless. Aside from the minor psychological motivation you get from seeing your opponent, so many aspects of racing (choosing your line, identifying passing opportunities, drafting) are lost in ghost races.

I agree, it takes the thrill out of racing. The satisfaction of diving on the inside under braking to take the lead on a corner. Jostling for position on the track. Sling-shotting alongside another racer on the straights to take the racing line. Defending your race position so you don’t get passed. It’s no challenge if you can just drive your car through your opponents. You may as well just do the rivals challenges as that’s pretty much the same experience…

I only suggested the single opponent should be ghosted because if it wasn’t then the children would just block the track & wait for you to come around… I guess in a way my ROC mode idea is the same as a ghost hopper only on different tracks… I still think overall it’d be an interesting game type.
Also, I completely agree with the previous couple of posts, ghost racing is very dull, I actually haven’t even tried it in FM7, but there’s nothing like close clean racing with like minded similar skill level players where a little trading paint isn’t going to cost you your entire race… Anyway, new cod is out so hopefully all the kiddies will go play that & leave us racers here to finally enjoy a bit of multiplayer.

hi everyone,

firstly I’m a backmarker midfielder and if I’m lucky I might get the odd win or podium.

I play with all assists off and a controller.

what gets my back up is the players that seem to think it’s ok to use you as a brake or a punting ball.

you may get away with it in single player but in multiplayer it is just not on.

I admit I have hit people but not for wanting to and in the name of sportsmanship if I gain a place by accidentlt hitting someone I will always slow down and let the player back through.

If only the c@$#wombles had this mentality then the multiplayer would be that much more enjoyable.

I don’t care where I finish yes I want to win but hey a fair race is all I want no matter where I finish my credits and driver score goes up whatever.

for all the decent players I look forward to racing with you.

for the not so nice racers there should be a separate lobby just for where you can be banished to and never seen again haha.

Darren

Your pace may actually be part of the reason you’re not getting a good Multiplayer experience.

What tends to happen is that the faster drivers gradually make their way to the front (or start there), escape from the midfield battles and have their clean races.

If you’re in the middle you’re at the mercy of people that are quick but erratic, people that are slow, people that are impatient and people that are deliberately trying to ruin your day. Unless you can escape this pack within the first half a lap you’re not going to have a clean race. Sadly, that’s just the way it is.

Same here, it’s not a disadvantage at all and I tend to podium/win most of my races online.

They think this is okay for 2 reasons:

  • There are no effective immediate punishment systems in-game for this sort of behaviour.
  • Forza Motrosport 7 makes no attempt to teach players the fundamentals of racing, be it circuit knowledge, racing etiquette, strategic cornering etc.

See my above reply. It’s not “sporting” but players do get away with it and the game makes no effort to teach players on the “correct” way to race.

As you should. That’s the sign of an honest racer and no matter how fast/slow they are I will always respect a racer that owns up to and attempts to rectify their mistakes.

First off, remove the word I’ve blanked out. Although it’s not explicit it’s close enough that the moderation team may want to take action.

Secondly, I agree. There are clean racers out there but they’re few and far between. When you do come across some however be sure to send them a post-race message if you had a good race, add them to your Friends List, join their races when you see them online etc…

As for the general population, Multiplayer is flawed on a fundamental level as “there are no rules”, and no tangible, immediate consequences for unsporting behaviour. If you ask anybody why they are ruining the fun of others you’ll get one of 2 responses:

  • There’s no penalty system in the game so whatever I am doing must be okay.
  • “Because I can”.

This will not change unless Turn 10 take action and properly educate their players. Dan Greenawalt loves to talk about Forza’s role in raising the next generation of automotive/racing fans; maybe it’s time his team starts educating this new generation on how and why people race.

hi

I do enjoy the online experience and I am very laid back most of the time when it comes to the not so nice racers

I know my pave is not great as I’m only an a amature lol.

And my post was just to let a bit of steam of ready for my next foray :smirk:

maybe I should use the the tune and upgrade menues and go on free play more, my excuse is that I get bored running around a track by myself lol.

would think by now I would be able to set a car up seeing I have been playing Racing games since the 80’s the first of which was an f1 game on the Amstrad cpc464 which took 45 min to load :joy:

note to self - learn how to use the tune and setup menus and gain some pace :+1:

darren

Aside from organized events online racing is a complete mess, a “no fun at all” place.

Make the racetracks 2x widen, most problems solved

I wonder if some sort of credit “buy-in” system to enter a race would work. Basically it’s (lets say for example 10,000 credits) to enter the race. Your buy-in will be returned upon race completion and/or reasonable lap time. The buy-in will be returned as well as race winnings at the end of the race. This is just a rough theory, and other things need to be done for improvements but this leads to more discussion about online improvements.

An idea I offered in this thread or another one is to offer incentives for clean passing. So if you get a “good pass” in a race, award extra credits for both players involved. Give people a reason to drive well.
