As you mentioned changing the RAM, have you checked the timings are correct in the BIOS? I built a PC not that long ago, and it was a minor pain getting that right. The issue seems to be that for some RAM speeds, the BIOS won’t automatically pick up the correct settings. The other thing is, an awful lot of RAM isn’t on AMD’s list of approved compatible models. I spent many hours searching before finally finding one, yes one, model of RAM I could buy from one retailer that was on the approved list. It was described as Ryzen optimised, and was more expensive than identical spec RAM that didn’t have the description. Checking the exact model numbers against AMD’s approved list showed that only the one described as Ryzen optimised was on the list.
Yes I did check ram speeds and timings in bios after swapping out sticks, but being new to pc’s there very well may have been something wrong that I didn’t notice. I just looked up more on the 1700x’s supported ram, and it seems to not officially support ram of over 2667mhz, but some people have gotten 3200 working with a little tweaking. This might actually be the issue now that I think about it, because I do remember some memory related bsods but I shrugged them off because I’d done a memory test and the results were fine. What’s weird is that bios picks up my trident z Neo 3200mhz ram as 2133mhz, but I’m able to change that speed to 3200mhz and it seemed to work, although that may be the problem. I might try reducing my ram clock speed to 2667 or 2400 (I looked up the supported ram modules and 2400 was the fastest I saw) and update here. Thanks for the suggestion!
Edit: forgot to say that I did check temps and nothing’s going above 65ish so I don’t think it’s thermal throttling
Update: Used msi afterburner to increase power limit for gpu and that solved crashing for now (managed to have forza open for ~1.5 hours with no crashes). So now problem is that the game isn’t using enough of my gpu because it’s able to run at ~120fps at 60% usage but it keeps dropping to 80ish and sometimes 50 when utilisation hits about the 20% mark. It’s still very playable but since I have a 144hz monitor I’d like to use it.
First, it’s a 1080ti so Horizon isn’t going to max it out. So don’t worry about that so much. What is concerning is that your FPS takes a drop and utilisation is sometimes only 20% when it should be more.
Have you reset your games shader cache? When you plugged in the card and started Horizon did it rebuild Shader cache? Have you updated drivers for your GFX card? They need re-installing after a swap even if it’s the same brand. The driver will identify the card and install appropriate drivers etc for THAT card.
Someone else here recently had a problem of GPU under-utilisation and he solved it, I can’t remember the solution or the thread though.
I’m not sure the post above mine is correct as the game is GPU limited so even if it can’t max out a 1080 Ti (I don’t know) it should certainly be delivering WELL over 50 minimum at all times.
A 1080 Ti can do 71 fps minimum at 4K for example:

Thanks everyone for the suggestions! I deleted old graphics drivers using ddu and reinstalled again, but it didn’t really help. I think I’ve just fixed it by down clocking my ram to 2667mhz which is the max my cpu supports without overclocking, and the game has now been running stably at ~130fps at about 70% gpu usage for the past few hours so I’m pretty satisfied with that. Eventually I might upgrade to a third gen Ryzen cpu and put it back to 3200mhz but for now I’m happy, thanks guys
I’ve had it happen on both of my machines for different reasons which one was easily fixable and the other was a big problem.
My stream/edit rig 8700k @ 5ghz at 1.31v on a 120mm AIO / 32gb ram at @ 3400mhz / 20tb all SSD and m.2 / SLI 1080ti’s both on 120mm AIO was the worst and what ended up being the problem is the top card slightly started to degrade and become a tad more unstable while OCed and then I ran stock configs with them because they didn’t need to be anymore when I built my 2nd rig. It didn’t work tried everything over a week period and 3DMark /Heaven started stuttering and then I swapped them and put the bottom one on top and everything went away.
The main rigs problem was 9700k @ 5.4ghz at 1.29v 360 AIO / 64gb ram @ 3800mhz / NVlink RTX 2080ti’s FTW Ultra 3 Hybrids both on stock 120 AIOs fix was DDUing and rolling back to previous drivers
with changing PCIe speeds in bios and redoing the Nvidia Control Panel tweaking in 3D Global settings because that’s free performance with out OCing then it started running just fine again at 300+fps max in H4 and F7.
Playing on pc, game runs perfect, but anytime I go to switch to my mouse and keyboard to search for liveries, or tab out to check something, the game goes to extremely low frame rates, occasionally recovering but sometimes it will just stay at 4-5 fps and crash occasionally. It never used to do this, so its a pretty recent issue. Are there any fixes I could try?
I dont know why but whenever today I try to go to lego valley the game keeps going back to dashboard.
I own a digital copy of the game so it cant be crashing and I dont know why this is happening, any ideas
This happened once to me in the last 24 hours. But got there after a restart.
I’ve been playing on the Lego pack for the last few days, xDeaDxCrimiNaLx, another dude and I have been doing this,
It’s been running fine, although on my second run through the rivals tracks, when I finished the Oval, the screen got glitchy. I had to restart the game but all my times had saved. That’s been the only issue over several days.
How ya doin’ Moss? Miss you guys over there in Motorsport land!
Hello, I have been trouble shooting with forza horizon 4 for about a week and nothing has worked. I can run my game perfectly fine and get through the autum race and cutscene but as soon as it switches over to the winter cutscene the game crashes every single time without fail. I’ve posted a message simillar to this on reddit and I don’t think anyone knows about the issue I am having. I was looking through the forums and it seems like this issue was happening to people back when the Demo was out but that was over a year ago and I am still having this issue. I downloaded forza horizon 4 with the Xbox game pass Ultimate BETA for PC and my friend and I both downloaded Forza horizon 4 (I also attempted to install it in the BETA xbox app and the microsoft store) and he’s is working fine but mine is having this issue. I have tried restarting my computer unpluging my computer I have re-installed my NVIDIA drivers and I have re-Installed my Realtek audio drivers and I have re-installed the game 5 times I have disabled my audio while in the cutscene I have tried to launch at leased 50 times I have also tried to disable my antivirus softwares and protections. I am not sure why this is happening and I don’t think anyone else knows if anyone knows how to solve this. please let me know of any solution, I appriciate any help that is given.
PC Specs:
RTX 2080
Intel(R) i7-9700k 3.36 GHz
16 Gigs of RAM
This is very annoying…
First time I witness this, played yesterday not detecting so : Full freeze, like 5s after race start, duration 2, 3 sec then race continue and everyone gone. 4 occurrences today. Restart of xbox won’t change ( 700 download / 350 upload / ping 25ms )
So weird, played 2 hours in the morning with no crashes, then evening I could not do a single race without having the issue, even got 2 full crashes of the game ( xbox still running fine ) .
Hi everyone!
I’ve been stumbling across this problem I have while playing Forza Horizon 4 and it seems that many people are having the exact same problem. I’m playing on xbox one with an extternal hard drive installed. But every few minutes or so the audio of the game seems to cut out. It stutters for a while and usually goes away after a while. However sometimes, it doesn’t and the stuttering just gets way worse…
Does anyone have a fix for this?

Hey guys. I got on yesterday and tried to play some FH4, however during the Senna loading screen (after the initial playground games loading screen), once I press ‘A’ to play the game (I’m on an Xbox one controller), I’m stuck in a basically infinite loading screen. The Senna animation of driving through the seasons has paused and at the bottom left under the FH4 logo, it says “loading, please wait” but it never loads. I even let the game run overnight, and today when I decided to start up my Xbox and play, it’s still stuck at the very same loading screen. I’ve uninstalled the game just now and currently reinstalling the game, but I doubt it would work. Any help would be great. Thanks in advance.
I recently got a new CPU and Motherboard and decided to try it out on FH4. Then it showed me this error code 0x803F800.
IDK what I can do. I haven’t found a fix and the “download a random app” thing doesn’t work at all.
The game and the DLC also don’t appear in my Microsoft Store account, like if I never bought them.
