A strange thing I’ve noticed, but which gives a clue as to whether the game is behaving itself or not, is down in the bottom right corner of the screen - the auto-save icon.
Usually, (when the game is functioning as expected), when the game auto-saves it only takes one clockwise rotation and the graphic fades, save achieved. However, if the game is playing up (according to all the above issues we’ve been having since the Winter Wonderland update went live), that same auto-save graphic will spin around over and over and over for a long time before it finally goes away.
I’ve been finding that whenever I’m able to play the game just fine, like I used to do, then that icon will do one (maybe two) rotations and that’s all, but when the game is having another hissy fit and crashing a lot, then that icon will be spinning and spinning and spinning.
I did not (yet) but this confirms my opinion that it is a server side problem.
It may have started with the infamous Winter Wonderland update but it also could be connected to the time when they started “fixing” the perfectly working FM8.
Other server side bugs have been introduced around the same time: The reverse order of followed creators (has since been corrected) and the not working follow / unfollow creators (still unsolved and ignored as well).
Probably everybody who can somehow code is building FM8 “from the ground up” instead of fixing a single bug in FH5.
When the game is not working correctly (and the auto-save icon is spinning round and round and round for a long time), if you just park up and wait it out you can safely exit the game. However, if you go driving off whilst the auto-save icon is spinning around for ages the game definitely will crash (and you’ll quite possibly lose some Festival Playlist progress - e.g. last night I lost a Rivals lap, which I had to re-do, as well as two Gifted VIP Super Wheelspins!).
What’s also very curious about this, is that I had noticed the auto-save icon sometimes spinning and spinning and spinning at various times before the Winter Wonderland update (which was the point at which all this general palava kicked off). It was something that came and went, but it never caused a crash across a whole year of me playing the game and occasionally seeing the autosave icon doing that.
Now, though, combined with whatever has gone wrong/changed since the Winter Wonderland (Dec 2023) update, it has been a decent indicator of whether or not it’s safe to play the game.
It still happens. I can and will give any and all additional info that you think could help determining the cause. I can even set up a stream showing the problem, when it occurs, and when it doesn’t occur, if support thinks that could help.
This past week it’s been really good. No crashes, nor infinite saving icon, etc.
I did experience the issues after I applied a new livery to one of my cars (which I haven’t done in while because of the issues), the game crashed whilst it was saving then it started with slow car list, crash, failed to join online races but after an hour or so it went away.
I haven’t installed nor uninstalled any games in case it matters.
Series S. Game Pass. No DLCs. Performance mode
Same problem here its now april 2024 and the games gets stuck when selecting a car befor event and or when changing paint colors tunes etc but most the time right when selecting vehicles for the playlist events and then also the cars pictures are not showing up on the car select menu
i hope i am not cursing myself by saying this, but this appears to be happening way way less now, at least for me. i still get the infinite spinning icon fairly regularly and it can take a long time to load the garage when that happens, but it has not actually crashed the game for me in the last few weeks, and once the garage does load, it tends to stabilize things (ie the spinning icon goes away and the garage loads normally from then on).
i hope this has actually been fixed-ish and i’m not just getting lucky.
The fix for all the crashing for me is to quit the game out completely before shutting the box down and not letting the game boot from the “quick resume” my crashing has dropped SIGNIFICANLTLY
Knocking on wood here as well but it seems a lot better lately.
Maybe the server update code from last week? The one where you were supposed to restart the game.
I had problems buying from the Forza shop when the playlist begun but after reading about the server code update I restarted and everything been going perfect since.
I’ve been buying cars, applying liveries and tunes, checking the map during the Eliminator, going to the Creative island without any issues something that in the past was guaranteed a crash and saving icon loop.
I did had a saving loop during a Treasure Hunt which happened once before but it managed to go back to normal after a few minutes which wasn’t the case before.
