Considerations before upgrading console? XB1 -> XB1X

Hi,

I’m considering an upgrade, from the current Xbox One to an X.

Microsoft states that all game data is backed up in the cloud and bound to the profile, is this true? Is it reliable?

Thing is, I haven’t been able to get ahold of a USB 3.0 drive to do the physical backup described here, and was considering to risk it. But then I stumbled upon a few posts from 2018 and back where people’s syncing had failed and they lost all progress.

Is this still an issue, and is there any idea how common the issue is?
Are there steps which can be taken to lessen the chance of this happening?

Thanks in advance!

Matt, there’s an option to import you settings from the OG One to the One-X. However, that most likely includes system and account settings only. Even though your game saves are saved in the cloud, you will need to get an external HDD to put the game there and then hook it up to your One-X.

That isn’t the only way though - there’s something called network transfer where you can hook up your OG to the One-X to copy the games to the latter’s internal HDD. Please Google it to point yourself in the right direction.

And get the X - it is a beautiful machine!
