So if there aren’t any lobbies I don’t really understand how it works. Can you still race with random people or only people on your friends list?
From what I’ve heard you can go to any part of the map and join a game. I don’t know if they appear like regular events or what, but they claim its seamless. We know the 360 will have lobbies for multiplayer. But on the One you won’t be confined to your friends list, there’s absolutely no reason they would do that.
I don’t think we’ll actually get it until they show us or we try it ourselves.
From what I have read, I’d say the best way to explain it is that they have sessions that you can join without going to a lobby screen. If your friends are online, you can join them, but I am sure you can also join a random session with random players, too. But, this is conjecture based on the limited info available.
I want to know if there’s a traditional lobby system (like the one in the first Horizon) as well as the “seamless multiplayer.”
No lobby menus is great, but some of the best lobbies in Horizon were ones with restrictions like “JDM/muscle cars/drifting/E Class only.”
There probably is, since it’s the only option in the 360 version, and it wouldn’t make any sense to take it out of the Xbox One version, but I haven’t heard anything from the developers about it.
I’d like to think that lobbies have /some/ extent of presence for people who just want to enter an online race, then do another race, then another race, without the intermissions or randomisation of the Road Trip. But yeah, this is very vague.
I’m interested in seeing what they come out with and how well it will be developed. =). I believe it will be good nevertheless.

Road Trips pretty much replace the lobby system. However the other multiplayer type is Free Roam, which also allows you to set up custom events/races with any rules you like.
Is there anymore info out there about how the online road trips will work? I’m still skeptical about how well the multiplayer will work in this game without lobbies. I liked how in the first Horizon we could vote for car class. I’m curious if these online road trips will involve voting where everyone goes to next as well as voting for what class will be used for that event.
It mentions in the demo when going to the multiplayer portion that during an online road trip, players will vote what they do next. So, yes, there will be voting. But it will be combined with races as well as playground games from what it looks like.
I know there will be online free roam, but will the game include Online Lobbies? It sounds like it will for X360, but haven’t seen any information for Xbox one. thanks!
Can I join an online race without joining online free-roam? Just wondering if this will be possible. I know the in-game lady’s voice said something about ways of joining mp, but only caught that part I was doing something else. My main concern here is this. I plan on playing the other modes, but racing is my number one reason to buy and I do not relish the thought of joining free roam and hoping players want to to race In order to do it.
I’m sure there’ll be plenty of folks to race with. I’m curious to see just exactly what the multiplayer has to offer myself, but I doubt it’ll be too hard to find a race.
If you’re concerned, wait until the 30th and watch some Twitch streams. You’ll be able to get a good look at any features you may currently have reservations about.
I just spent some time online racing for the first time and I’m totally confused. Are there no set races like in the first Horizon? If so, how does one find them. My favorite thing about online in the first Horizon was finding favorite routes, circuits, and joining races there and racing the events I wanted to race. The session I played in, an online road trip, had us going from one place to another with events like Infected, which I don’t enjoy, mixed in with the races.
If it turns out that you can’t just pick a favorite “track” and just keep racing it, or a race type and go from 1 race to the next then I’m going to be very disappointed. Hopefully I’m just ignorant on how to do it. If not it’ll be as bad or worse than the removal of public custom lobbies in Forza 5.
I’ll take lobbies that let you set up what you actually want to be doing over seamless online multiplayer any day.
Someone please help and enlighten me.
Online Road Trips are like hoppers in FM5. Online Freeroam is what you want: http://forums.forza.net/turn10_postst22830_FH2-Events-List---Routes--Rivals--Online--Bucket-List--Xbox-One.aspx
OK, I tried free roam. There was a lst of 8 people on my screen. If I set up a race is it just those 8 people that decide if they want to race me? Is there no way for everyone who’s playing online at a given time to look for races in a particular spot? Or do you just have to race with that tiny group of people initially matched with? Of the 8 one person joined my race. Man, I’ve been so psyched for this game for so long, if this is the only system for matchmaking then I’m really bummed out.
Ok, thanks. I think I’d like online road trips much better if there was a way to pick ahead of time that you’d be in a race only one without the tag games.
When I’ve done them there’s been at least one choice with no playground game types. Look at the bottom of the location for four game type icons.
