Cheats and how Turn10 can fix it!

Forza 5 Cheats, IE: Cutting corners or running off track to gain an advantage, I think this is easily preventable, if Turn10 can patch it with the format that is used in F1, Where as if you leave the track with all 4 wheels, your car is hit with a 5 second slow down penalty.
I know this would be annoying when you get punted and you get a penalty, but surely it could only be a good thing?
Then all they will have to do is figure out a way to stop the wall-riders and the game would be 100% better

GT started doing this years ago - it sucks. The funny thing is so many people demanded that the “sticky grass” was reduced and now people are complaining about corner cutting. Seems that no matter what T10 do people are not happy - personally just block those that won’t race fairly.

This works until people start manipulating the penalty and deliberating ramming others into “slow-down” zones.

As long as there is a rule there will be people trying to work around it.

At the end of the day I’d rather an accurate-as-possible gaming experience (with no sticky-areas) and just accept the fact that people are going to cut corners sometimes. There’s enough clean racers for you to block those who drive dirty.

It’s not really a cheat if anyone can do it, but I do feel there are some zones that really should be marked as off track. Spa is pretty ridiculous. That said, I’ve found ways to go just as fast without using that cut.

I agree.
YAS also has a medium left followed by a hard-right which can be cut straight into the grass (non-sticky).

The easiest fix is to cut corners just like your opponents. That way, they don’t get an advantage no more.

Spa is not that of an issue. Eau Rouge you may gain 1 or 2 tenths and cutting the last chicane is actually slower than taking it properly.

Yas Marina is really bad and I have seen people run the track 90% off the course and beaten the #1 time by 4 seconds. This is the lines that they take:

But the issue really cannot be solved. For example Turn 18 (Hotel) could have sticky grass there. But once added it would become a trap for those who made a genuine mistake and would also be a pain to others when trying to return to track. Maybe a less sticky grass could of been used rather than the 100mph - 10 stuff. Whatever results there will always be an issue.

I honestly had no idea Yas was so bad. I recently stumbled across the last turn shortcut by driving through the pit entry, cut a bit off my times. I don’t like to use such shortcuts, but you get stuck between a rock and a hard place if you want to post good times. I pride myself on taking good lines, I find much of the corner cutting to be kinda silly. It’s tough trying to toe that line. If you want fast times you have to take the shortcuts. Then you get frustrated because you good lap was invalidated by going too far off. I think the boundaries could be more explicit. Two tires off the track and your lap is dirty, something like that.

I’d rather get trapped in sticky grass once and a while, than have all this unsportsmanlike corner cutting. Anyone who says the game allows it so it’s ok is just plain wrong because that isn’t allowed in any kind of competitive racing. Look at the bounty hunter competition for example cut the corner lap doesn’t count or any forza race series it’s not allowed or you’ll be penalized or even kicked out for this kind of conduct.

On a related note I was watching a twitch feed one day that Raceboy77 was doing in S class, and there was a guy cutting every possible way on Yas Marina behind him and still didn’t beat him LOL. But unfortunately for him a turn 10 employee was also watching at the time, who then asked for Raceboy after the race to bring up the offenders gamertag and then said he would take care of this guy. So I think it’s safe to say turn 10 doesn’t approve of this behavior either, and probably banned this guy for a time.

This goes back to how Turn 10 can’t win. No matter what they do, there’s people that will complain against it. When races were a bit longer, there were folks who wanted them shorter, and now that they’re shorter there’s folks who want them longer. They add sticky grass and people complain that they want it gone, but when they dial back the sticky grass then we have complaints of corner-cutting and that a slow-down penalty needs to be added (basically, if your car is forced to slow, it’s like driving through sticky grass.)

Do away with the sticky grass and bring back the time penalties. In older Forza games you had seconds added to your time for off-roading. It didn’t affect the outcome of the race, but we could bring it back with the added effect of it altering the outcome of the race. If you technically beat me to the checkers by three seconds but you have fifteen seconds of penalty, I win.

The reason this was removed was it got abused as well - there were sections of tracks, where with the right setup on your car you could cut the corner, and even with the time penalty it was faster than staying on the racing line.

There is no perfect solution unfortunately as at some point innocents will be punished for a mistake (which will already have cost them anyway). Just like those who don’t like the sticky grass (I don’t like it right next to the track but a car length/width off the track is ok) - many of whom fail to realize that at some point the sticky grass has saved them from wrecking their cars, or prevented some other person/AI from flying back onto the track and beating them/taking them out.

I don’t feel like sticky grass is the answer. I would rather see T10 implement a penalty system where if you strayed too far off track with all four wheels excessively during a lap you would be black flagged and forced to drive through the pits at 55 MPH on the following lap. This would keep people honest without having to use fake sticky grass or barricades.

What you describe is not cheating. Cheating is breaking the rules. Unless the “cheaters” are somehow playing the game with different rules, they aren’t cheating. You are just trying to impose your view on them.

Just block players you don’t like so that you can find lobbies that you do like, but they aren’t cheating.

could always add a straight barrier/tire wall to the parts getting cut. Can add straight ones in the large open areas like on Yas, or you could add a curved one that follows the track closer on corners that are cut but are still followed for the most part. The walls obviously wont match with real life but it would make online racing much more enjoyable when not dealing with purposely cutting corners to win.

You know as well as we all do that if walls came up, morons–in public lobbies–would do everything they could to ram clean racers into these walls. Morons will be morons, and there’s no other way to deal with them than to block them.

There’s going to be some give and take no matter what solution is put in place. There are already walls and barriers in place to prevent cutting and to alter track layouts as it is. It wouldn’t really open up any more danger than already exists, but it would force people to stick closer to the intended racing line. On Yas, if you put the straight barriers in the open areas where everyone cuts, you could put it far enough from the tracks edge that it would never be an issue for being rammed into but it would stop the cutters. Obviously you would never “T” a straight wall up to a corner. You would angle and curve it in a way that matches almost every other wall near a corner really.

Blocking players who smash people off the course or into walls is the best action for those racers. But my post was more to cut down on corner cutting. There are a ton of “clean” racers who never touch anyone else but just cut corner to gain the advantage over those of us who think it’s dirty racing. This would just stop those kinds of people which is what this thread was really about.

“No Collision” hoppers would be the single best addition to the simulation (I refuse to call Forza a game until it becomes one.)

I reckon sticky grass is the answer but just don’t have it start right next to the track. Have a buffer zone and then the sticky grass. Small offs would be ok but major corner cuts punished.

I remember the old days of toca touring cars on the ps1; If you went off the track at all your car understeered like mad and would be a pig to get back on the track. I’ve noticed this on some of the corners in Forza and although it’s frustrating as hell I think I prefer that to sticky grass.
