How do you go and change the controller to where the triggers are your shifting and the A is the gas and X is the brake? I hate the new set up and can’t race with the way the controller is set up. Any help on this would be most appreciated.
Not sure that button configuration would be a good idea. With Forza physics, turning the accelerator and brake controls to (essentially) on/off switches is asking for handling issues and traction issues?
Yeah, that would be a terrible idea (although many people still use the throttle and brake triggers as on/off switches anyway). I’m not sure it’s possible to switch the throttle to a button, but you would never really be competitive that way.
It’s best to practice and get used to the triggers. If you ever end up turning TCS and ABS off, you will need to learn how to feather the triggers and be more gentle with your inputs. This will make you a better driver in the long run as well.
Having the A (or X on PS) button as the gas on the GT franchise was hell. I would just get used to keeping the triggers as the gas and brake and the gears as x and b and the clutch as A. Easiest setup for me at least.
Not to mention, the rumble in the triggers is critical. By far the best addition to car control since the triggers themselves
The vibration in the triggers is critical to feeling the car in my opinion. You just gotta get some practice in.
You can remap the controller in the Xbox Accesories app
Pretty sure this only works with the elite controller.
the Xbox Accessories app will let you swap buttons, and invert sticks, but that’s it. You can’t assign trigger inputs or stick inputs to buttons and vice versa, and you can’t adjust sensitivities and such. That is only on the Elite controller.
In all the other Fortas I ran with this configuration, I am still running halfway through f5 yet and I have gotten so used to this configuration for racing it’s not even funny. I was thinking of getting a wheel and seeing if that will help me. Any feedback on a wheel for this game.
I remember racing GT with the gas button. Tapping it 100 times a second to try and get some sort of throttle control. No thanks man. I bought a thrustmaster 458 edition wheel 2 weeks ago. Day 3, pressing the RB button made it do the function of the A button. No Bueno but I can work with it. 2 days after that using the upshift paddle made my car cut right. I’m taking it back to Game Stop today and they have to order another wheel. No clue how long that’s going to take. But, I’m going to give that particular wheel one more chance. I have a friend that has one and has had no issues.
Forza has always had at least one controller configuration that maps the gas and brake to face buttons. I’m not sure how it works in FM6, but it usually has the gas slowly applied when the button is held down, so you get an effect similar to gradually pulling the trigger.
For the most part this works fine, but, as many have pointed out, this can cause some pretty severe problems when trying to maintain speed in a turn or applying a specific amount of pressure to a pedal. I’m sure there are methods around this (I used to play Driver on PS1 with D-Pad steering and it was manageable) but mapping analog input to pure digital means that some degree control is lost in the process.
ANYWAY, to answer the OP’s question, on the main menu, go all the way to right to the Options tab and then select Wheel/Controller. You can select from a number of button configurations, one of which is the kind you want, with gas and brake mapped to face buttons.
This is something i would like to see saved to our profiles in the future, as a global Forza preference
… so we can actually get thru the initial intro races
as well as saving time trying to remember everytime which config did what.
Hi, I’m new to the forum and new to Forza 6!
Having had a PlayStation for the past 20 years I had to re-learn how to race using triggers but found in the options (Preset 12) that I could use the right analogue stick for accelerate and brake. This is my preferred option as I find I can be far more progress, I’ve tested it using various different cars and circuits and believe it to be 2sec faster for me. Everyone uses what they feel most comfortable with.
Hope this is useful?
