Cars - Shelby Cobra 427 S/C '65 - Sound needs improvement (especially cockpit) (1969021)

It’s an okay sound overall but needs to be louder, with more depth and “fullness”. Cockpit/first person sounds are really quiet - you hear mostly wind and tire noise and not the growl or throatiness of this fine engine even though you’re sitting right on top of the exhaust system in an open top!

Hoping to see this improved in one of the subsequent updates. Legend of a car!

This is one of the sounds issues that I would think would be a simple fix, still waiting

The main issue with the game is loudness/volume level/sheer amount of decibels these cars generate IRL in the various views - which doesn’t come across in the game for, well, most cars, anyway.

You hear a fully tuned Supra RZ in the game and it sounds SO glorious, much like the LFA and Carerra GT, but then you have the R35s, the 911s, the McLaren road cars that lack that same oomph, dynamic character, and punchiness in the sound. The definition and quality in the exhaust sound isn’t there. I don’t think even a fully tuned Supra RZ or R34 Skyline IRL e.g. generates more decibels near the limit as a LaFerrari or FXX-K Evo, yet both these latter cars will sound somewhat quiet, suppressed and hollow in the game (I believe the V12s are getting updated so that gives me some consolation).

I read the transcript of the In The Garage audio session with Mike and Nick where, I believe, it was Nick who said “most people don’t have the game running at race car or real life racing volume” - something along those lines - which I think is a false and somewhat careless assumption.

Many of us are playing our games on a surround amp + speaker setup, all of which have been tweaked to kick out the correct mid, high, and low frequencies. When I play COD e.g. or other racing games or, say, flying a fighter jet in MSFS20 which has had the sound done from a “premium” third party stuidio - I can literally feel those jet sounds tingling my spine and shaking up by bones. The decibels are there, the frequencies are there.

I don’t know why Forza wants to have quiet sounds. Mike/Nick said that the mics get blown up and can’t take the pressure - well, I want them to research on studios like Echo 19 and Sim Accoustics - they do the jet engine sounds for third party fighter jets in Flight Simulator 2020. Everything from the cockpit and chase to flyby sounds are eerily real, practically on par with real life. I can feel the gunfire reverberate through by body and bounce and off my walls when I’m firing off an automatic rifle in COD, as if it’s literally dug into my shoulder and I’m firing away rounds. I can hear the rumble, bass, and ear-bleeding decibels from my favourite 1000cc superbike as I pilot that thing in Ride 5. These are only a small handful of examples. Forza doesn’t do this with the cars’ audio character. The Supra is one such example which really, really brings the sound stage alive in the game.

That’s the kind of detail I want to hear in the engine and exhaust notes, and for ALL cars in ALL views. It’s a monumental task, sure, but it’s certainly not impossible. In the end, all parties win.

As for the Cobra, it’s got a very nice sound in chase cam which increases in loudness as you pan the cam to the side, well, appropriately so. But when you go into cockpit, you’re greeted with this somewhat monotone, weak, and far away sound. In the other cars, in cockpit specifically, you get this weird monotone wide surround field effect with practically no depth, bass, dynamic range or impactfullness (HELLO modern 911 and McLaren road cars!), making the cars sound like they are revving out of a large bathroom.

Also, when you go from cockpit to bonnet/bumper in open top cars and open wheelers, there’s no change in character? It’s literally the same weak cockpit sound pasted to bumper/bonnet cam which is plain weird.

I write down these walls of text only to help the team develop better sound. I think it is crucial in a driving game to have all the right ques to make driving a deep and dramatic experience, just like it is in real life, particularly as you dare to tame the higher HP cars. @ManteoMax @JetPartySalad

You’re saying everything I’m thinking! Just upgraded my home stereo and tv. Been a big fan of Forza games since I first played Motorsport 1. Really want this game to get better.

Here is my setup

LG C3 EVO 65" - Onkyo TX-NR6100 7.2 - Klipsch synergy black label 120 (x2) - Klipsch R-34C - Klipsch R-41M (x8) - Klipsch R-41SA (x2) and logitech pro wheel with shifter and hand brake on semi cheap all metal sim rig with Honda seat on XBOX Series X we have a pc too but I dont know the specs off hand

When nascar happened I wasnt super happy, however, crank up the volume, driver view, and test drive Le-mans totally loved it, then the Nurburgring, awesome! So many reasons to love this game, and the cars that lack the character they deserve is such a bummer.

My son loved playing asseto corsa on vr with our sim rig and its also a blast, but hard to do for more than 30-40 minutes, it gets hot and uncomfortable.

That’s a great setup!

Well, moving forward, all I know is you can expect to see lots of improvements to the existing cars, with time and resources being the only limiting factor I suppose. Nick and Mike are not only motorheads themselves but they can get inside the gamer persona and visualise. So they know, exactly what both car lovers and gamers want.

Good things will come, one car at a time, or 1-3 cars at a time. Whatever it may be, we are in for a treat, that’s for sure! I trust their expertise.
