Both Forza Motorsport & Forza Horizon have a huge car list but there is a huge problem since Forza Motorsport 3 : The way we earn cars.
In Forza Motorsport 1 & 2, we had to complete championships in order to earn new cars. It worked in the same way as the Gran Turismo franchise (Except in GT, you didn’t know the reward cars without looking on internet or on official guide). But in FM1 & 2, the most interesting part was that after winning the championship, you had finally the possibility to buy the car at the dealership.
At this time, the game, like Gran Turismo, Forza Motorsport had a long solo lifetime and we were fighting to progress and collect all the cars along the whole career.
To unlock location cars in Arcade or MP, you had to complete each race in arcade and time trial mode. It was very interesting.
But in MP, I see something working defferently, the idea would be that in public lobby, we are able to choose every car we want to give everyone a chance and in custom lobby, you have only access to cars unlocked by members in the lobby.
Since Forza Motorsport 3, the car-reward system has changed and we only had level-up reward cars (50 levels → 1 car per level). Same in Forza Motorsport 4.
Then on XBOX One era games, no more reward cars and no interest in earning new cars. On FM6, there were only “Unicorn cars” to win. In FM7, we have #Forzathon to earn new cars but they are always the same and we can easily buy them.
P.S.: I will not talk about the Forza Horizon franchise here
Unicorn cars : For those who are not really familiar with this term, it designate cars that you can’t unlock unless participating special events, beating a specific opponent in special time-trials event, etc. They are considered as hidden cars (first appearance in FM2).
This a great idea but not for cars that actually exist. It would be a pretty good idea for “Forza Edition Cars” (But not those we know today, a new type of FE cars I will cover in another suggestion topic).
To resume this entire cars reward suggestion topic :
- Same unlocking car system as in FM1 & FM2 for solo modes (Career & Arcade mode separated).
- To unlock cars in MP, you have to unlock them in Career or in Arcade mode.
- In MP public lobbies (not custom), you have the possibility to use every cars of the game.
- In MP custom lobbies, you are limited to cars unlocked by members of the lobby.
- Unicorn cars/Hidden cars must be special cars (new Forza Edition or Concept cars or Prototypes). → That would make sense for high priced cars in auction house.
- Once a Unicorn car has been rewarded through a special event, it will be available to select in location car list if we want to drive them fully stock in MP or in Arcade mode.
- Like in FM2, cars not unlocked in career mode will be buyable in the auction house but not unlocked in MP.
