I just hit cancel to do an update later and it totally erased the game. Why? Lol. I’m not home it’s going to take hours to redownload this. Thanks a lot.
Oof. Sorry that happened. Probably the only bit of advice I can offer is, if you’re on Xbox, try getting an ethernet cable, plugging it into the console, and then plugging the other end into your WiFi router. Makes downloads go by faster if you have to reinstall the game. If you’re on PC though, I have no idea if this work around functions the same way.
They could give a warning, hey canceling this will erase the game . It literally just started and I hit cancel. I’m already cabled in on Xbox. Just slow internet where I am.
Yeah, I don’t get why hitting cancel on an update just nukes the whole game either, especially without an “are you sure?” prompt.
It’s always been the case - in any Forza title - that cancelling an update causes corruptions to the game save data. Basically, Never cancel an update or this is likely to happen.
Someone was streaming, I was playing Forza Motorsport and didn’t want a 10 gig update happening at the same time on 80 meg internet. It’s downloading now. Canceling is not something I would normally do. At home I have gigabit.
Probably. I’ll have to check.
In the queue on xbox you can pause downloads. It’s worked for me in the past. There may be an option to throttle downloads. I haven’t looked for it.
Hi, xbox OS will delete your game if you try to cancel the downloading update; because if you don’t update, then your game (especially if it’s an online game) won’t work until you download the update. (and this applies to all of your games)
Next time, just hit the pause if you don’t want to download the update.
Also, what’s your download speed? If it’s too slow, you can go to the settings and switch the power mode to “stand-by”, then go to the main menu, pree and hold xbox button, then choose “turn off”. Then do whatever you want. For speeding up the process, you can change your xbox location. Try to put your modem close to your device. Another solution (which is the better one) is to use a cable and directly connected your xbox to the modem. If possible, contact your ISP & request a better service or even change to a fiber connection if you can. Another thing that i should note is: don’t play or open any apps or games.
That’s the annoying thing about FH5 updates. Most games keep them waiting till you tell them to start the update. FH5 just begins immediately upon switching on the console and it’s useless at keeping up the download speed. Mine often slows way down or stops completely several times during the updates for no reason at all. You’re lucky to have a gigabit connection. Best I can get here is 65 Mb which is also why I, like yourself, use a wired connection rather than relying on WiFi.
The best thing is as mentioned by others - pause it rather than cancel it.
It all depends on your internet speed and how poorly the xbox store is running at the time. You are right about ethernet though, it will always be faster than wifi unless you have some really really old pre-gigabit kit which no home user will have
The advice I give to people for networking is to wire everything you can, this is essential for anything that requires a stable online connection because wifi is fine for a little web browsing but not much else
You will never get decent speeds out of the windows/xbox store on any connection because it is just that slow. On a 900 Meg synchronous connection, I don’t tend to pass 300 Meg but it’s usually around 100 Meg with updates but this is either the store being slow or the curse of the terrible windows network stack which is a problem in windows 10 since the creator update
Best way is to disable power saving on xbox, run an ethernet cable (I recommend Cat6 or 6A) and leave the update running whilst your not using the xbox
