Builders Cup - Career

As I’m just working slowly through the Builders Cup, I thought it might be helpful to create a thread to discuss how people are finding it.

  • Any events you particularly enjoyed;
  • Cars you really enjoyed driving/thought worked well for the events;
  • Tunes you’d recommend (either your own or someone else’s) that worked well at a particular car level;
  • Anything else of interest!

for now its meh for me. itll be better when they add events with actual race cars, also the progression bug is kinda ruining it right now. i just finished the miata cup and had to do it twice to get credit. also had the AI take off on me on difficulty 4 and by the 2nd turn never saw them again. only 1st place did this, the rest actually were driving at difficulty 4

Playing on Difficulty 8, with all assists off (although using Manual rather than MC for now - might have another go to get used to this at some point).

So far, favourite car was the Emira for the Premium Performance event. Did that event twice and it’s my only car so far up at Level 50. Very easy to drive stock and maintained the fun feel up to S class.

Just at the start of the second tour at present.

No real sense of progression and you hop from car to car in each series.

I miss working my way up the podium with a basic entry level car, slowly upgrading it and eventually winning other cars and earning credits to buy more vehicles.

Starting the game with multiple free cars makes progression feel non-existent. Yes, I bought the $100 edition, but I didn’t really think about it coming with all these free cars on day 1. Really regret it.

I’m digging the narrated cup intros, but when it comes to the over all thoughts on the Builders Cup, it’s a big meh.

I’m enjoying the mess out of it. Particularly the upgrades unlocking over time so you can’t throw every upgrade on at once, and I like being able to pick where I start so I can challenge myself to try to make the podium (bonus creds!), not necessarily 1st place every race. I’m finding the estimated finishing placement to be mostly accurate. I like the practice laps beforehand, good idea for the new feel of the cars and the new tracks. It won’t bother me a bit to do these races with the other cars to level them up too. Well, maybe except the mustang lol

My experience so far is generally negative.

Unskippable tutorial messages I found extremely frustrating. I feel like the introduction hype movies would have been better served in-car so the player can enjoy the action immediately, instead of watching the action. I really hate and despise the locked Builders Cup events - there are car categories I want to jump all over but they are locked behind categories I have no interest in whatsoever. When I get to the events I’m keen on, then I’ll probably enjoy Builder’s Cup a lot more.

Visuals are pretty awesome, controls seem good. I find that the AI can put up a decent challenge to my skill level (I think I have a fairly low skill level).

I’ve not had huge time to invest in it yet.

Thought the typeR was a bit heavy to drive in the intro to the cup but brought the i30N out for the first championship and well impressed.

GR supra lovely.

Have a mr2 for the track day one but was struggling to get to grips with it. Again lack of time.

I feel there needs to be a better view for tunes to know whether you meet the car level/CP for it before downloading

I am enjoying it a huge amount. No issues bar a day1 crash on xsx. Smooth sailing since

Yeah, the tune menu displays a “level required” box but it’s always showing as “0” for me. It’s only when you go into the tune that it says that actually you need “level 20” etc, which is time-consuming. It should also be possible to search tunes by car level but that isn’t an option currently.

I haven’t been bothered by it so far. But skimming through the events doesn’t have me excited. I’ll be driving a lot of cars I’m not interested in. I may have to take breaks and do some E class free races.

It’s not a career to be fair. Just some assorted races thrown in front of players to spend the time with. There’s no sense of progression, you just drive around in cars you probably don’t care about, as the AI is also completely unable to race properly. They’re either a hindrance or you can’t catch up to them. This is not racing and not a career. It’s a service-based Game Pass engagement project.

I’m using the 3 lap practice as qualifying and moving myself around the grid accordingly. It’s very course dependent though - so far I’ve always set the fastest time for practice at Maple and can’t get anywhere near the AI times at Barcelona and a couple of others.

Things get a lot better in Open Class Tour.

That’s only 4 races per class, I wouldn’t even call it content, let alone career.

For the first few series it was pretty fun but the formula quickly became stale. There is a lack of variety of types of cars used with no series that allow the use of race cars, which is so baffling considering this title’s focus on Motorsport.

The ‘built not bought’ line would be more fitting if you could use your cars for multiple series instead of buying them, racing them in a handful of races and never using them again. There is little sense of progression with your cars as you wont be able to continuously use them.

They need to come out with a new event structure for race cars. Call it ‘The Forza Race Cup’ or something. They cant add race cars to the builders cup because they come ready built for racing!! I wonder if anyone at Turn 10 thought of that…?

You can take one car through the tour as you upgrade it.

Also replaying any series with your next car.

In my opinion, it is the longest lasting path of the career mode for now. Unless they add something significant in future updates.

In all of the games promo leading up to the release its like they forgot to complete the sentences
“Built from the ground up” (but not all aspects of the game).
“Built not bought” (only for 4 or 5 races then you start again with a new car).
“CarPG Sense of progression” (in a linear fashion that we strictly control)

Im enjoying the actual driving and individual races but the career mode is the worst in Forza Motorsport history

For all the comments that say there is no qualifying. there kind of is. you just need to press Y on the Challenge the Grid screen to see all the AI’s lap times and then just put yourself in that place. Ive noticed that the times listed when you are actually practicing for the AI is not always their final time. It seems as if it FFwds the time to the end of the 10 mins and then lists the lap times. sometimes the AI jump forward above me even though I set the fastest lap time during the 3 laps practice session

Yes, that’s what I’m doing. It feels almost to me like this was intended to be qualifying and then, for whatever reason, they switched it to “practice”. I haven’t done any MP yet, so I’m not clear how it differs to the qualification process online.

on multiplayer you get a certain amount of minutes of driving before the race start time (depending on how close to the start you join) Then during the “Practice” time you get 3 laps to qualify. you choose when you want to start those 3 laps but you only get 1 chance to start all 3 as they come in a row. If you mess up a lap you can skip to the end of it which will give you a flying start to the next lap. after the 3rd lap qualifying ends. if there is still time before the race start you can then do some more practice laps.

its a really good system actually
