Did Brabham still take part in F1 in the 1970s? I vaguely remember them, and always thought of them as British. In fact, I didn’t even know Sir Jack Brabham was Australian until a year or two ago.
My little brother and I had Brabham Power Track (like Scalextric) cars in about 1977 or so.
I’ve still got the Brabham scalectrix car somewhere along with the group b rally MG metro.
The same could be said for McLaren… Bruce was an Australian as well :-)… I love to watch Australian drivers in F1 they seem to have their own driving stile. Like watching Danny Ricardo he’s so aggressive but fluent. Watching him drive is like watching V8 super cars…
Either way there’s still some quality drivers coming from that area of the world. Humble racing drivers that don’t loose there head. There’s a lesson to be learnt from those guys.
Sir Jack Brabham was indeed Australian but the team was based in Britain. The designed of the car, Ron Tauranac, was also Australian.
BT24, as presented in FM5, was raced in 1967. BT24 had low HP compared to other cars in the field because it was a converted F2 (that’s why it looks so tiny). The car, however, was lighter than others and more nimble due to its small chassis & inherent shorter wheelbase. It’s agility combined with high reliability won the car its '67 championship ahead of the Jim Clark’s legendary Lotus 49 which was the fastest but also very unreliable.
The '67 F1’s are being featured in many racing sims due to the fact that it was the last year where NO downforce was featured on cars. It is considered the epitome of life/death racing with little traction and certainly pays tribute to those brave souls, both alive and dead, who dared to tread on the edge of traction at 200 mph. This is my favourite class of race cars and I find it pure and exhilariting. Those with GPL experience, I am sure, were completely giddy with these additions.
I would like to thank T10 BIG TIME for bringing BT24 to FM5 along with Nurburgring. It is a perfect combination. Others cars in the Booster pack are all fantastic NEW additions therefore I did not hesitate in purchasing it. The drive is both heaven & hell. Heaven when you are in control, Hell when you are not.
