As someone who has spent a lot of hours in Grand Prix Legends....

I just wanted to say I think Turn 10 have done a really first rate job with the 1967 Lotus 49 and Brabham BT24 - well done guys

They are still challenging to drive well (not as challenging as GPL which is understandable) and while we can’t drive them around Monza or the 67 versions of the Ring, Spa or Monza I’m really pleased that turn 10 haven’t forgotten us historic F1 and Sports car fans in F5.

If you would like to introduce a few more that would be cool too  - Honda RA273, Ferrari 312, Eagle T1G…

I downloaded the Lotus Type 49 too Incisive Tiger, really looking forward to trying it out later. I think Silverstone will be the circuit of choice.
I bought FM5 for the open wheel racers. Nice selection of old and new. Hopefully Turn 10 can introduce more via DLC or better yet, an entire new franchise based on historic F1/Indy Car races.
That would be magical

It would wouldn’t it ?

There is definitely a market for historic GP in video games.

Grand Prix Legends came out in 1998, 16 years ago, and still thousands of people across the globe play it and there have been many mods released by enthusiasts to expand on the original game (65,69, 67 Sports cars, tracks, graphics updates etc) with others currently being worked on or in the pipeline.

I think that the Lotus 49 is underpowered compared to the Brabham. It’s almost imposible to win when racing against a well tuned Brabham, except when the Brabham drivar is a noob… even with the best tuning the Lotus is not on the same level with a good tuned Brabham.

Lotus feels more like 690 than 710 in stock…

The 49 is more balanced and a better car for me in standard trim, the same as in GPL. The issue with games like Forza is when you can uprate all kinds of things including slick tyres instead of radials and increase the HP by some margin the cars change somewhat dramatically from their real life counterparts.

Don’t forget though, that in 67 the BT24 won the Constructors championship comfortably for Brabham even though it wasn’t as powerful as the 49 and technically the Lotus was far more cutting edge. It was however more reliable and consistent - unfortunately you can’t replicate that in Forza like you can in GPL with engine etc failures. Nothing like putting in 30 laps at the old Spa on GPL only to have the engine or gearbox fail !

I too think there is a demand for a game dedicated to old historic F1 cars. Unfortunately, I think a lot of the licenses are already took by individual companies.
It would be really cool if Turn 10 could do a dedicated F1/Indy game. Even if they could could do an Open Wheel game featuring ‘fake’ cars and ‘fake’ tracks would be really cool.
A lot of petrolheads like to have the real cars in their games, me too, but I’m not opposed to a bit of fiction.
I’m not so much a fan of cars, I’m more a fan of racing.

Reading this makes me drool . . . GPL was the sim that got me hooked. Driving a screaming 312 through the Masta kink cannot be compared to anything else. Following a car close enough to see an early downshift resulting in engine parts flying out of the back end + smoke is priceless!

Yes, Lotus 49 had the speed but not as nimble as the smaller F2 body Brabham. Ferrari 312 had great sound (+ fantastic looking exhaust) and the Eagle-Weslake had high top speed!

Using race tires on these cars felt like a crime! They are best experienced with stock tires and no aids but hard to win races with that configurations. (managed to win couple of times at Nordschleife using stock but not at other tracks).

I don’t know if T10 plans on releasing a '67 F1 DLC (not likely) but I’m just happy having the Brabham+Lotus49.

Would you guys be interested in having STOCK build (but tuned) '67 F1 race?

Sounds fun to me GRD.
We should all get together, agree/announce a time, date and track in order to allows us to practice. The race should be set to 50 laps with the damage and tire wear on
Any suggestions?

50 laps! You are more hardcore than I am. BUT, I can do 50 laps. There would be almost no point to having the tire wear if the race did not require a tire change anyways.

Let’s first get ourselves lined up (3~4 of us) then we can invite others who can fit into our time/date constraints + agree on the race length/format.

Country/Time Zone: Canada / Eastern
Dates/Time: Most Friday/Saturday/Sunday evenings + Saturday afternoon

How about we individually do a quick trials on say, Silverstone and/or Top Gear Track, to see where we are?

So TigerFury777, I assume you are in. I’ll add you to my FL.

How about you, Incisive Tiger & albertlespaul69?

Once we get ourselves sorted out, then I can post the event in the race section to get more interest. (If someone wants to take charge of organizing, I’ll be very happy with that too.)

I was just joking about the 50 laps GRD. Personally, I’d do 50 laps no bother, but that may not suit others what with family/work reasons.
I’m new to forza so I think it would be best if you or another organizes it due to your familiarity with the Forza Series.

Me:
Country/Time Zone: Republic of Ireland / GMT
Dates/Time: Any [whatever you people decide is fine by me]

If we can get Incisive Tiger and AlbertlesPaul69 to show some interest, I think we should then decide on a track and race distance.
I will nominate:
Track: Spa
Race distance: 30 laps

All I really want to know is where we are gonna race and how many laps. If I can get this info 24 hours prior to race start then I’m good to go.
You didn’t add me to your FL GRD, so I’ll add you. I take it your name here is your Gamertag

Since you are in Ireland, how about Saturday afternoon (for me) and evening for you? 3pm my time should be 8pm your time.

Spa = good
30 laps = good for about an hour of racing?

I have not added you to FL yet . . . will do so this evening.

Yes, GRD 4 3L is my GT, space before and after “4”.

Apologies to Incisive Tiger, I think we are going off topic but maybe not.

Ok, so Spa, 30 laps
Can we use TC SM ABS etc?
If Incisive Tiger and AlbertlesPaul don’t want to race then maybe me and you could but hopefully they will want to race and maybe some others too who seen this thread
Saturday is good for me GRD.

No upgrades = AS PURCHASED car (as pure as it can get)
Tuning = any changes to springs, gears, etc.
Tentative distance = It can be 3 rounds of 10 laps each, or 10 laps first followed by 20 laps, or go for the whole 30 laps, depending on how our lap times compare.

It is no fun having one driver drive away then having to just hot lap on your own. Racing should be side by side and within visual range. There are ways of equalizing the pace within the lobby so we can have a good close race. We will decide maybe after a practice round.

Sounds good to me GRD. I’m up for any modes be them 10 laps, 3 rounds, 50 laps, 1 round, I don’t mind at all. Cheers for organizing it. I will be using the 49 cos the Brabham BT24 is 1,750,000. At this moment in my bank there is 1,740,000 but I’m gonna buy the F1 Lotus E21 for 2,000,000.
I will have it in roughly 1 hour
I’m looking forward to our race on Saturday. Feel free to message me on Xbox live
GT: TigerFury777

TF777, I’ve sent messages to Incisive and albertlespaul but no responses yet.

Update in the build: race differential will be allowed. I was also considering race brakes but there is no option for this . . . !?!

Prepared S710 Lotus 49 tune and so far I must say it is definitely an improvement over the stock set-up (it’s not crazy sensitive, just moderately sensitive) and up to #3834 at Spa with 2:26.9 which is pretty decent IMO.

I think we should be allowed to upgrade anything that affects handling GRD but the Lotus 49 power should remain untouched at should not exceed S 800.
Its a very slidy car, its good fun but very difficult to drive  I’m way behind you, I’m a 2.32.
Roll on saturday

TF777, whatever upgrade that gets you to 2:28 or better, put it on!
