Better Smoke Engine? (tire flex?..)

@Wormbuster, I actually was shocked to see that image you uploaded because I haven’t seen that flex in game. Like Yakov is saying it must only be available in photomode. Cause afterwards, I watched an 8 player replay with slow motion and all that but the tires didn’t flex one bit. So yeh, im sure FM4 had it in photomode too. But as I said, this takes massive amounts of processing power to make it look real. The way the car just floats on tarmac is not something they can easily fix I understand that and I’m sure they do too. Luckily these things don’t take away too much from an otherwise awesome game.

If you are concentrating on someones inflated tires so much that you can notice flex, something you couldn’t see or do in real life, then you have major problems when racing. Lord only knows how many crashes you cause.

Nice gamertag and zero history btw, makes me wonder what exactly you are doing here?

So now that you’re proven wrong about tire flex during game you call me a crasher? You got some issues bro. Try harder.

Have you proven that you are right?

Correct me if I’m wrong but I’ve seen nothing but words.

@wormbuster

Before I comment on that, first it’s pretty sad bro. you resort to calling someone a crasher just because your post turned out to be false. What are you, a kid? I mean good night. I’m actually shocked to see a mod going that route… What proof do you need. Go look at the replays yourself. You got eyes.

sorry for being off topic but have they fixed the tyre flex on open wheeled cars yet? i noticed it was backwards a while ago but havnt played in ages

edit

back on topic, i would also love to see big plooms of smoke but i know we are limited on console, but what i could see is the smoke being a bit more natural by the way its generated and how its applied, right now it seems to be generated by the slip of the tyre, rather than friction and heat and its applied to the skid mark left on the road rathe than around the tyre. i dont see why it wouldnt be possible in future titles, it doesnt need to have big plooms (although would be nice) but just a better dynamic in how the smoke is actually generated

such a place exists…

… on pc.

Smoke from the front tires looks kinda silly.

Alpha…

Great point.
Is this Project CARS?

yes.

Slightly Mad are OP when it comes to smoke.

Until it hits console.

even on pc though it seems that the way smoke is generated in most sims is very simplistic and not well tought through, the majority i have driven the smoke is still generated by the slip percentage rather that heat and friction. when you see a race car IRL come out of a corner with slight oversteer there is no smoke because the whole surface of the tyre needs to get hot enough and produce enough friction, which takes ALOT of wheelspin, compared to a brake lock up, were the heat and friction is rapidly generated on a single patch of the tyre.

in forza you could still have the same smoke textures and particles as now but change the way its produced based on better physics, all the data is already there and it would generally improve the way it appears

ps. PCARS looks awesome, really wish i had acces to it…

Finally! I totally agree with you. We don’t need super many particles, but a more dynamic engine could behave a lot more realistic.
And that shouldn’t demand too much processing power either.

(Think it’s sad that the console is what holding us back…)

That has always been the case with regards to consoles though. As I have told people in the past, if all you care about is ultimate power, graphics and resolutions while gaming; take it too a PC. That is the only way you will get all of the additional eye candy you seek, everything for consoles has to come at a price somewhere along the line. Most of the time, that is in the graphics department; with lower particle and lighting effects, lower draw distance, lower res textures, lower quality 3d assets with more LOD happening the further away from something you are in game, lower resolutions, lower frame rates, and so on. Lowering the latter two has always allowed more eye candy in other places though, which is probably why Forza Horizon 2 will be at 30FPS. Taking that into account, I will be very surprised in Forza Motorsport 6 comes with the dynamic weather FH2 will be using; but that’s an discussion for another time.

It has never been so much of a limitation as it is now. The tech in the consoles was already surpassed by quite a bit the day it was released.

I race in chase car view and tyres definitely flex during races. Obviously easiest seen in open wheel cars.

They don’t. What you’re seeing are the suspensions working which in turns makes it seem like they do.
