I’m looking to buy a wheel for FM6/FH3. I’m not trying to drop a ton of money so what is the best wheel for the price range new or used?
Just forget it, save your 200 bucks.
Not even a Logitech G920 ($300 and up) has good force feedback with Forza 6. (Turn 10’s fault, because the wheel itself has great FFB with other titles)
Id say the best wheel for around that price is the thrustmaster tmx, its $200. The tmx pro is $250 and comes with a three pedal set, while the regular only comes with two. The tmx is customizable when it comes to adding the th8a shifter and getting different pedals. The g920 cant be upgraded other than buying the shifter but does come with a 3 pedal settup.
As was said above forza doesnt exactly have the best wheel support, but is playable with a wheel. My honest opinion though is to get the thrustmaster tx, its more expensive but with wheels you get what you pay for. It is customizable as far as the shifter, pedals and rim. The ffb is stronger as well as smoother than the other mid-range wheels.
Wheels are an investment, its not really worth spending money on if youre not going to take it seriously. Its more difficult in forza to use a wheel than using a controller, so its going to take some time to acclimate. But if you are interested in being a wheel user id strongly suggest spending some more money to get the better wheel and also broadening your racing games of choice because forza just doesnt do a ffb wheel any justice.
I also wouldnt buy a used ffb wheel unless there was some form of warranty or return available. Im not saying its impossible to find a used one that in good condition, its just that theres many things that could go wrong and its not worth the money to fix them.
Yep that’s exactly what I mean.
When it comes to F6 and between g920 and TX my choice is definedly Thrustmaster TX. Been using them both. But don’t buy the one with 458 Italia wheel, it’s too plastic and won’t last the power delivered by servomotor…
I use the G920 wheel currently, but I have also owned a TX in the past. The latter was an early model and did fail, hence why I use a G920 now.
Assuming that the issues with the TX have been ironed out, I would say that is the best wheel to go for if you can, as FFB it provides is very good. The TX also offers more pedal resolution over the G920, which can make controlling the throttle and brake inputs slightly better, and the ability to change the degrees of rotation on the fly if needed. As well as having sensitivity adjustment built into the wheel itself firmware itself (though I had the TX before this firmware was available and never found I needed this option when I had the wheel, it can prove benificial if lower degrees of rotation are used on the wheel.)
Similarly though,I have never been left feeling like the G920 was a bad choice as far as wheels go; and have found it to be a very good investment thus far.
FM6 FFB is pretty bad, but it is also workable. Drifting shows the real issues and drawbacks of the FFB in Forza, and even though drifting can be done at 900° of rotation; it does make more sense to go with 360° or below. FH3 improves on things by adding extra adjustability in the games control setting menu, but still isnt the best thing in the world. But if you intention is to play other racers such as Dirt rally (or the upcoming Dirt 4), Assetto Corsa, or any other racings games where a wheel can be used, they can prove to be very beneficial and improve the level of immersion by a large margin. A wheel is absolutely an investment, and the Logitech G920 and the Thrustmaster TX can both be used on the PC as well.
Had a TX it didn’t last long but had a warranty now I’m running the G920, I like it far more than the TX and no issues so far over a year old. Bought the G920 at Best Buy with a 3 year warranty.
I bought the G920 on last black friday on amazon for 200€, wait for next discount and get it, it’s a solid wheel and i’m playing only with wheel since i bought.
If a miracle hasn’t happened g920 is just too loose in the midle of corners and there you need the feed back most… There are reliability issues with TX, but still it’s just much better with Forza. Mine broke down under warranty so got a new one…
Im sorry, but i do not have a loose feeling in the middle of the corners with my g920 wheel, there is always feedback. I am predominantly a racer, not played forza much recently, but put in a good few hours with different R, P, and X class cars last night, with the odd lower class car thrown in here an there, and not once did i notice any looseness under normal driving conditions.
Forza’s ffb may be rubbish, but the g920 is a solid wheel.
Well thats a good news!
If you’re looking for a used wheel, try the Buy/Sell option on the Inside Sim Racing isrtv.com site. I just picked up a TH8A shifter for $70 and got a replacement for my 458 wheel for $30 after one of my paddles crapped out on me. You should be able to find a TX or a 920 for around $200 if you watch for a bit. I’ve only used a TX on the X1 but from the research I’ve done, the TX has more resolution to its input and the method of FFB is a better fit. If you can, take an extra $50 and pickup Project CARS and Assetto Corsa when you get the wheel. I bought the wheel for FM5/6. I hardly ever play them anymore unfortunately, and when I do it’s with a controller for the most part. The wheel implementation is much better on the other two games.
200 bucks you wont get a forcefeed back wheel. And the logitech is a good wheel i run top 10s with it. But to be fair forza is the worst game on the market for a wheel. Trust me ive been using one since forza 2. I own a fanatec csl now. Great wheel but you wont get one for less than 500. A wheel is 10x better than using a controller anyday. Is it faster? Not yet. But funner by far. Big changes are coming for the wheel in fm7 so we can hope for the best. But if your going for a wheel either get the thrustmaster or a fanatec just for all the goodies that you can buy for them. Only real problem with the logitech is the crappy shifter. But other than that its a good wheel. And one of the cheaper ones. 300 bucks.
The biggest thing all you guys need to realize. Its not the wheel its the game. You can’t run high rotation. 540 max. And i run 390. Anything higher and you get slack dead center. Asseto corsa and pcars is great on a wheel but lack on the game. Its just not forza. Building your cars is where its at
That all depends on the car in all honesty, as there are certain roadcars that do not like 900° at all; but they are mostly few and far between. The majority of them work quite well at 900°, and is what I leave my wheel rotation set to while racing/hotlapping said road cars. When it comes to race cars though, that is when you really need to start knocking it back to a lower DOR setting. Most games will do this automatically via soft locking, so you can swap between a road car and an F1 car without having to change a single setting (swapping rally cars in Dirt Rally for instance); Forza forces you to have to find that what DOR feels right in this instance on your own, which incurs a lot of going into the options and then back to the track to test; with loading times included; it is a total chore. Especially if you swap between road and race cars frequently.
But you are not wrong, forza is a pretty bad game for us wheel users; and it is only worth getting a wheel if you fully intend to play other more complementing racing games for the wheel also. My G920 does shared duty on the Xbox and the PC, so it sees plenty of use. Hopefully (as that is all we can do), they will finally get something sorted out for wheels in FM7.
