Bad tuners ruin the game

Since i do high speed with good handling tune i usually title mine, for example “best handling267” then in the description i say “best handling, goes 267 mph.” Now people know what their buying. when you title it “good” and put no desc, it doesn’t stick out and no one will buy it as they have no idea what they are buying.

It works as long as its definitely true.

Most of the time its not.

Same for me, but for paints. I’m not really big into the tuning aspects but I have at least 10 paintjobs all for different cars that have been five stars since two or three days after I shared them. I am still at the “Amateur Painter” level. I don’t know how the leveling works but I’d assume it’s based largely off of number of downloads/likes. I’m around 90 away from 1,000 total paint downloads yet have been at the amateur level since I shared my first design.

The reason I brought up my situation with paints is because it’s even worse with paintjobs (quality-wise). Tuning is a bit different but with the player not being able to see exactly what upgrades are set to whatever tune they’re downloading, it is a bit more complex as opposed to paints. Both of them are flooded with horrible content, though.

Your solution is feasible with the few higher level painters and tuners. However I wouldn’t support it because with my luck it my weekly download stats would smash into the ground and the fix would end up affecting me.

Ikr, all the time i see a paint job where its just a stock color.

I think being a amateur at nearly 1000 sold is unrealistic. At that point you should ad least be a semi-pro ranking wise.

That really goes against your original issue.

Whilst there needs to be a balance, the harder it is to rank up the more you should be able to trust the ranks.

On the topic of labelling tunes as “perfect feel” etc

I do not try a lot of other peoples tunes. Don Joewon Song uses a different balance to me. I would not question his tuning ability though (no one in their right mind would).

A few other tuners often say “Perfect Balance”. O Bleak Genius sometimes does and when he does I love the feel of his cars.

But I then download Person X - Perfect Feel, or Scientifically Perfect Balance or equivalent and wonder where the water is because it feels like I am in a boat. I have no idea if the feel I like is what others like too or not. That is why I tend to post something factual eg tuned at Coober Pedy Trail, or BM tune or 58.9 Track X if that is the time I set.

If you are struggling to get started maybe join in the Hot lap comps and run your own tunes and if they go well then post in the thread or pick your best 3 tunes and post about them in your own thread - where do they run well, a little info about them etc

Simple answer: Wouldn’t work
Yes totally agree too many bad tunes. I’m gonna have big balls here and say for instnce, most Raceboy77 tunes can be considered pile of crap by pure online racing/leaderboard standards since he’s never grinded the game sufficiently to figure the optimal balance for various classes. Yet they still remain incredibly popular.

Hope you understand what I mean by this point. The biggest issue actually lies on the players who DL tunes. Majority of players belong to casual bunch who don’t even know what’s gud or bad, and just want quickly a 5-star tune which would make them feel gud (in a variety of aspects) rather than fast, which in such case Raceboy tunes would fit the job nicely.

The blame also partially goes to current power/handling balance for classes or the PI system. e.g. A ~1970 muscle car would perform best in B-Class with, almost always, AWD and V8 centrifugal swap putting almost 700HP on stock tire compound, which isn’t sth most casual players would enjoy to drive, and likely to think it’s actually bad tune.

If the game follows your suggestion, my tunes which are way better than Raceboy’s by racing standards alone, would all go to drain in no time.

Not only is it a bad idea, But simply put what is a good tune for you, isn’t necessarily going to be good for another. A person’s driving style and habits play alot into what makes a good tune for them. What works for me, may not work for you and vice versa. Does this person use a controller or wheel? Do they like their car to be on rails or a lil loose in the rear? I make my own tunes, if it works good for me, I share it, especially if I can crack into top 100. I play using an elite controller, but my tune may not feel the same to someone using a standard one. Same for wheel users. I don’t care if anyone downloads my tunes, or if a 1000 people do, I play for me, not you, or anyone else. Does it make me feel good seeing that people dl and use my tunes, sure. Is it hard to find a tune that works if I’m in the market, sure… but even if there was nothing but 5 star tunes in the storefront, if I dl it and it doesn’t work for me I’m deleting it and trying again, or taking what I did like about that tune and using the already bought parts and putting my own twist on it so it feels good for me and the way I drive. The storefront is designed the way it is so that everyone gets a chance to be seen, not just the elitists and you tubers looking for likes.

Honestly, while some tunes may seem like garbage to them, it could be a totally new tuner’s creation and something they were proud enough to share. Sure, there are some obnoxious “DR1FT BEST EVER!!!1111!!!one1!!!” thats simply a skyline with an engine swap and max’d out, but then there are others from people who genuinely race what they build and try to make the best of it.

Therefore it is totally absurd to punish people because their work doesn’t have 3 stars. Some of my best work has 2 stars. The 240Z I spent a whole month trying to perfect was criticized for not having enough upgrades put into power and it wasn’t as light as it could have been (the solution I found was to swap it with the 6 cylinder TT gtr engine, high-revving and only ruined the 50/50 weight distribution I made only slightly). It would be rude to give my updated version a toss into the trash bin because people aren’t catching on with it.

This game is made up of all kinds of players with entirely different driving styles. Not everyone plays with a wheel, some people let off the gas, some people mash the brake at the apex, and if it works, it works. What you think is garbage might work very well for somebody else.

So maybe it is you that needs to stop being so judgmental. There are garbage tunes, but a great tuner can come from anywhere. Basing acceptance into the tune browser on tune popularity is like saying your art needs to be in a gallery in order to be great, not great to be in a gallery.

Most of the time i see people who just upgrade the car and don’t tune it.

I didn’t think it cost anything beyond the price of upgrades you don’t already own to use a downloaded tune. And I didn’t see any way to set a price on those few tunes I’ve shared, so I could hardly be said to be “selling” them.

Most tunes/upgrades have 30 parts. The most expensive thing is the engine swap, which can cost 45,000 credits. Then you spend over 55,000 upgrading it. Then you have to tune it. Now you might be getting confused because when you buy a car off auction, it comes with parts already installed from the perviuos owner, if the car had been maxed out with all the parts, it takes no cost at all to buy a tune.

So, like I said, you don’t actually spend money on the tune itself. One does not waste credits on a tune, but rather acquires upgrades they’ll continue to own whether they keep the tune or not. Owning more upgrades is simply having more options to freely switch between.

And given the pittance received as rewards per paint/tune, I doubt the vast majority sharing them are doing it for the money, either. Possibly for Achievements, though, which is a complaint I could get behind.

Well when you buy a upgrade set-up, the person buying it cant tune it. So tuning is important.

It’s been mentioned, but there are different tunes for different things. I’ve started sharing some 1/4 mile drag tunes. Completely useless for anything else in the game but good, and getting better, drag cars. The circuit tunes I have are pretty solid, again the newer ones are better.

I’ve only got 75 or so tunes shared and am still an amateur tuner. I do try to label all of my tune for what they are to avoid any confusion. Alot of people don’t so you have no idea what you’re getting.

Painting is almost worse, like someone earlier wrote. People can just throw on a solid color or one vinyl and share it. Or worse yet, put something objectionable on a spot you can’t see when you’re picking the paint. I have 125 or so shared designs and have made it to elite painter, but again, I try to label everything and stay consistant with what I share.

Until the storefront and file system is changed to actually work smoothly, not so cumbersome and futile, the best thing to do is just follow a creator that you do like or post up a thread on here about your shared stuff like Satnite said. Beyond that, there’s always going to be tunes you’re not going to like, just don’t use them.

yeah but i always see “MAX speed” next to “max speed” next to “HIGH SPEED!!!” when searching for tunes. These tunes are terrible and are just a RWD version of he car to make it higher and speed. That make the car handle bad and spin out like crazy. An example of the car with no grip because its RWD is the Koensigg Regera. It spins out like crazy and i have never reached its top speed because it always spun out. Anyways 1/4 mile drag tunes are fine, but when you see 5 tunes named “EPIC DRAG” and “HIGH SPEED DRAG” and “1/4 MILE DRAG” the person buying it will have no idea what to buy and will most likly buy the “EPIC DRAG” as it sounds really cool.

And, as unsurprising as it may seem:

This is the same car that dominates the rivals leaderboard on Goliath circuit. I assure you it can be tuned to behave quite well.

dude this car only comes in RWD. i think you might be thinking about the agera or One:1

No the Regera is king. Check the leaderboards.
