B Class Chevelle 598HP Open Source

Hey guys, I’ve been working on a tune for a while now. I think it could be a great car, but I can’t seem to get it exactly the way it should be. In testing, I ran a 4:05 on Old Le Mans which would be around #185 on the leaderboard. Now I’m not that good of a driver. I still have major problems with RWD cars. This one seems to handle awesome most of the time. However, it has a tendency to get a little squirrely at times and I don’t know if its the tune or me just being a bad driver. I’ve ruined more great laps with this thing coming out of a corner than I can count. So, I figured I’d throw it up here and see what you guys think of it. In the hands of a good driver, this could be a beast for B class. Another tweak or two to the tune by someone who knows better what they are doing than me wouldn’t hurt either. Anyway:

All I ask is that you post your thoughts on it if you build it. Even if its just to say that its garbage. Commentary will go a long way in helping me figure out what I’m doing right/wrong. Of course, if you have a comment on how to improve the build/tune, please respond.

Thanks guys

I’ll give it a try tonite when I get home from work. Going on vaca tomorrow figure I’ll play all night and sleep on the plane. Lol

Thanks and enjoy the vaca

Howdy Lou,
I enjoy reading your posts; I can tell you really enjoy this game. I do as well and we both seem to be in the same boat as far as figuring things out. So since I was planning on geekin’ out a little bit this morning I thought trying out your tune would be a good chance for me to see learn a little from someone who is at a similar point in their development.

Problem is I must be reading something wrong because when I built the car I came out at A632 before rims and driveline. I toyed around with weight reduction and tire width(I assumed it was max width F/R), but the handling really started to suffer. Of course, you did mention Le Mans in the original post so maybe that’s why. In order to get it to B-class, I ended up removing the cam, air filter, ignition, and valve upgrades. That put me at a solid 600 without room for driveline or rims.

I’m a gonna play around with this for a while, but if you could set me straight I would really like to try out your tune.

Ok, I just checked it and the build is as I wrote it above. I think you’re doing one of two different things wrong. Hit the menu button and then select clear all upgrades and start from the beginning. Sometimes I get weird results if I don’t enter the conversions first, so do them first. There are two engines under the conversions. You need to pick the first one, its a 5.7L engine that gets bumped up to 6.0L after you change the displacement later on. Select the Supercharger too before you move on to the rest of the upgrades.

That’s why I listed the HP and Torque numbers above. If you aren’t getting them exactly, then you did something different.

As far as handling goes, this car actually handles amazingly well for a muscle car. The only track it seemed to have a problem with was the Alps. Buggatti, Catalunya, Laguna… all the tracks with lots of turns, it does very well on. It doesn’t have the grip to handle the Alps for an inexperienced driver like me. Its best on Spa, Silverstone, and Sebring. Just be careful how you come out of the corners. Road America was giving me fits with it going nuts coming out of the corners, so I gave up on that one, but I still think its me and not the car. You’ll find what really makes this car is the acceleration. Don’t shift until you’re well into the red on every gear and the car just takes off…

Car builds fine at B600, make sure you are using the 5.7 liter engine conversion. Oops a little late but yea, lol

Gave your tune a try. The back end kept trying to pass the front. Swapped the spring rates for front and back. Raised front rebound to 9 and back to 9.5. I also swapped the diff setings acc 10 dec 28. Its more stable on corner exit. I did 5 laps and manged a 4:21.735. Good for 1132 pos. The car needs another gear. You are doing something right in your driving when your able to get a 405 with the car as it was.
Definitely a needed vaca first in 6 yrs.
Here’s what I did. Put street tires on with 16s
Race tranny
Race cams
No ignition or fuel
Ended up with 634 hp 540 tq 2834
Got a 4:19.807 for 947 pos.
I have not really figured out how to drive the old muscle cars yet. Good luck.

Actually, now that I think about it, I may have gotten that 4:05 with a variation of the tune above. Its really hard to remember what is what because I went through so many different combinations. My goal was to put together a car that had sick acceleration and would still be a good all around car. I use Le Mans for testing all the time. Probably shouldn’t, but I do. I like the long straight aways because it gives me time to change the tune setup and look at telemetry while on a test drive. I really don’t even like the track, so my builds are never for that track. So, everything kind of runs together at times. Anyway, I know there was one build with the Chevelle that hit a top speed a good bit above 180mph. 187, If I recall correctly. The car was undrivable on any track but LeMans though. It was barely drivable even there. If you got a 4:19, then lower the Aero. That’s probably good for a couple of seconds at least. I’m guessing you maxed out between 170 and 175?

Anyway, the current build on the Chevelle is driving me crazy on Le Mans. I can’t get a clean lap for some reason. That bump before the Michelin sign does me in almost every lap. I know you have to stay on the throttle for it, but I find myself trying to protect the clean lap and coasting all the time. I have a time of something like 4:16 in my Buick that I’m trying to beat and I just keep failing because of dirty laps. I’ve beaten it by quite a bit several times now, but not clean. LeMans frustrates me the most when I dirty a lap because its such a long lap.

I can’t drive the muscle cars at all. That’s what prompted me to do this. I grew up driving them, so I love them, but they are terrible in the game IMO. So, I’ve been trying to get one solid build that will ease me into them. I’m building a 79 Camaro (love that car once you swap out the horrendous stock engine) similar to the Chevelle, a Trans Am, and I’m tweaking a tune on a Buick GNX that belonged to someone (Rosny, I believe) else. I bought the Olds 455, 66 Nova and the Impala too, but I’m not having any luck at all with them yet. So far, the Buick is the best I’ve been able to do, but its not as satisfying since I didn’t build it from scratch.

i just printed out your tune. when i get off work tonight i will give it a run and see what happens. I have to tune some r class cars tonight so hopefully i will have time after that.

Sounds good, looking forward to your input.

Dang Lou, I made a knucklehead move earlier. When I went to get that Chevelle earlier I was flipping back and forth between that and the Nova looking at the initial stats and ended up picking up the Nova instead. It had the same HP and Torque with the upgrades and I just couldn’t figure it until I came back later. What a maroon! Sorry about that.

So when I got the right car it looked like a good build for me to try and beat my personal best (PB) on Silverstone National. So that’s what I set it up on. I ran a dozen laps, but I just couldn’t crack 1:03. The car really did accelerate well, but the problem I had was that it kept trying to straighten the curves.

Here’s what I ended up with:
Tires-
F- 28.5
R- 28.5

Alignment-
Camber-I went more negative hoping to improve turn in and grip through the corner.
F- -3.6
R- -2.9
Toe-
F- 0
R- 0
Caster-
6.7

ARB- Wanted to reduce some of the understeer and loosen up the front
F-20.79
R-14.56

Springs-Car was stiff trying to change direction for me
F-479.9
R-423.3

Ride Height-
F-7.5
R-7.6

Damping- In my notes I have jotted down that front bias is desirable and induces understeer in RWD cars. I was getting a lot of that so I tried for a little less front bias.
Rebound-
F-9.1
R-8.8

Bump- I think it’s still a little high. I got thrown off by a couple kerbs I don’t think I normally do, but I ran out of time to keep playing.
F-2.7
R-2.5

Aero-
F-79
R-150

Brake-
Bias- 53%
Pressure-101%

Differential-
Acc-33%
Dec-40%

So I then went into my rivals ran 5 laps on 3 tracks:
Siverstone National- I couldn’t beat my PB, but was happy with a 1:01.739.
Siverstone International- Got real close to my PB, but just couldn’t crack 1:12.3
Sebring Short- Beat my old PB by 1.5 seconds with a 1:21.144. That got me in the top 500, which is awesome for me.

I really like the car Lou thanks for putting it up. If you have your ghost running that car on any tracks I’d be interested to know which ones so I can run against it.

Glad you liked it… I will fool around with those tuning settings tomorrow and see if I like it any better. I appreciate that you posted them, its very helpful. That’s what I personally was hoping to gain from this thread. Hopefully, others will pick up a good car in the process too.

As to my ghost? I’m not sure really. I know I was beating lots of my PBs (most weren’t very good to start with) on rivals with it. Then I got frustrated with it and figured I’d change things up and drive the Buick for a while. Turns out, I’m better in the Buick and beat most of the times I set in the Chevelle. (I can post the open source for the Buick too, but I should check with the original creator of it first as he doesn’t have it on this site.) I’m sure there are still some times left from the Chevelle though, just not sure which tracks. Probably Yas Marina… Just add me and you’ll see all my times in your rivals list. Trust me, there’s nothing worth bragging about with them. A few pretty good ones, but very average overall. If I can get in the top 1,000 I typically move on with the intention of coming back later. I do think that if I ever get the tune right on the Chevelle, it will beat all of my PBs. Except on the Alps, I use a Mercedes 190E for that and love it.
