I’ve only used the AH for selling cars, but today I decided to look at the price offers for some supercars. To my surprise, I stumbled upon some amazing deals:
2013 LaFerrari for 400K
Bugatti Veyron for about 800K
McLaren P1 for 300K
Centenario for 1mil
How things went down for the past 15 minutes > I placed a bid on each car, and for sure I expected some competition, but nope, just as the cars were in their last minute on auction, some degenerates swooped in EACH TIME and bought the cars for the entire buy out price, not bothering to bid!!!
It makes no freakin’ sense. for that price they could’ve just bought a car from the Autoshow …so the only explanation is that these kiddies do it to troll. And it’s annoying as hell.
True, I’m still a noob at this game, but I don’t see any kind of advantage to buy out a car at an auction for the exact same price you would get it at the autoshow.
So it this type of behaviour normal in the Forza community? Should I even bother trying to bid on supercars?
From my experience, people tend to buy such ‘impressive’ cars when they think it’s their best chance (marketing is at work here!).
So it’s no surprise it happened the last minute: these cars were shown in a special “HOT DEALS” short list - and more people saw them rather than other similar auctions.
You also write that these were cheap deals. Smart people look for cheap buyout prices - these might be of that kind (but rarely at the last minute). If people don’t buy out, they’ll most likely bid on cheap rare cars fiercely.
My advice is try bidding on something a little more expensive and having no attention close to auction finish: it will get less attention from others.
Yes, behavior in all parts of FH3 is diverse and some people do crazy things out of boredom (after many hours of fun)
Yet you definitely should not give up.
If I see a car listed I want for less than purchase price from the auto show, I will always buy it out from the auction. Best buyout was a lambo veneno for 4mil vs the 4.5 mil you pay for it at the autoshow, also cheaper that way than it would have been with the little discount perk. So it was worth the buyout.
Also, I buyout whenever I see the car at that price, I never look at how much time is left with the auction
I had this a lot when I was buying up the HE cars I didn’t have yet. I always had more than enough credits for a buyout or prolonged bid war, but as always the last few minutes would see the highest bidding activity, as this is when the car is at the top of the list. The cheaper the car, the more likely it is to have a furious bid war in the last few minutes as everyone goes for a bargain. I always aimed for cars with no bids/low bids, or cars that had the buyout set to 5-6 million if I was buying it out. Anything over that and I ignored it.
It can be smart to do this, as getting in as close to the end as possible increases your chances of winning the auction. Placing a bid increases the amount of time left though, so if you’re watching it you can bid before the time runs out if someone places a higher bid. It’s these situations that usually lead to the car quickly hitting the millions, as everyone sees a good deal and wants it, but the bid war that follows kills the bargain, and most will give up, leaving a car that was cheap in the hands of an unlucky buyer who now has a bill in the millions. Be prepared for that, set a bid limit and don’t go over it if you really want to save money. But it helps to have ample credits in hand so if you do happen across a car that you really want but won’t be likely to get at a reasonable price, you can just waltz in and buy it out.
I always tried to get the car as cheap as possible, not wanting to spend all my days grinding, I tried to be wise with the credits I had so I could buy more cars at a time, but sometimes I would just buy out the car so I didn’t have to bother with a bid war that inevitably bumps the price into the millions. Some cars you will get without a single competing bid, checking the AH at different times of the day can make this easier if you really want to save money. Of course some cars are in higher demand and will almost never be cheap, you sometimes just have to be really patient with those ones to find one at a good price, I managed to get a few HE cars for the minimum bid, some I just bought out, and some had so many bids in the last few minutes I just left empty handed. Don’t just assume you’ll be able to get what you’re looking for the first time, it took me weeks of searching the AH to get some of the HE cars at a reasonable price (looking at you Lambo Huracan and Jag F-type)
Also keep in mind that elite AH resellers will just buy out rare cars knowing they can make that money back on the resell. The auction house is a game in itself.
Yea, and some clearly enjoy it, but not me. It’s a really frustrating experience. True, you can find awesome deals for the lower-end vehicles, but not when it comes to the “poster cars”, like the Ferrari FXXK, the Centenario, the One:1 etc.
The buy out prices are ridiculous for these cars, and in the final minute before the auction ends, the last bid placed is usually just as high as the price in the Autoshow.
I got my Veyron from the AH, I actually managed to time my bid so that no one else can place another, but I wouldn’t really call it a “hot deal”…the price I payed for it was only 100K cheaper than in the Autoshow. For me, a really good deal would be to save at least 500K on one of the hyper/super cars.
Right now I’m looking at Centenarios, it’s like a waiting game. I wish we could use the Auction House from outside the game.
Yeah, the auction house can be a very frustrating experience at times (read: when buying more expensive/popular cars). It’s a great tool for an obsessive car collector like me since the vast majority of the cars are available for the minimum AH price for that vehicle (10% value starting bid, 50% buyout). Sometimes I’ll get lucky and score a great price on one of the more desirable cars, but often it’s not worth my time to sit around and try to get a good deal. What looks like a good deal ends up with a mad bidding war in the last few minutes, and often a high level player swoops in and buys it out even if the buyout price is above the autoshow price for inexplicable reasons.
The UI is a large part of the problem. You have to spend an inordinate amount of time doing nothing but sitting on the auction menu so you can be ready to put your bid in. Search parameters can’t be saved and the search options themselves are very clunky, especially for manufacturers with large numbers of cars to choose between. This wastes a lot of time to check the current auctions for a specific car, even if you just want to compare them to an existing bid you’ve placed.
Hopefully the AH will be improved in future games with something like a companion app that lets you manage auctions at any time (even during a race) instead of having to waste a lot of time NOT driving/racing just to babysit an auction.
