I finally got a wheel (TMX) and I prefer to race from the hood or bumper view with the wheel. But we all know how crazy that can get in online lobbies. Am I the only one who prefers this view? Just makes it feel more real.
Quite a few players actually. One of my teammates uses bumper view and it seems to work out quite well for him.
ive used both wheel and controller and multiple views. i love bumber view but i dont trust others in public lobbies so in traffic i use chase and if im chasing/leading i use bumber/cockpit view. my 2 cents is use what gives you your best natural line of sight for angles of the apex and depth perception. i only use chase as a defensive driving mode
At Global Sim Racing we race exclusively in cockpit view.
I’ve always used a wheel in Forza racing and Hood view works the best for me.
I finally got Forza 6 for Christmas with the Ferrari 458 Spider wheel.
I do not recommend this wheel for Forza. It does not have Force Feedback.
I will get a better wheel when I can afford one.
I only do OK on the Ovals, so I will be trying the NASCAR Series racing at FMC starting on Jan 20.
They will be using the NASCARs with no Upgrades.
The NASCAR DLC would be needed, and I think it is $10 if you have Gold.
Hey Tomcat! How ya been? I just got back into Forza after taking off over 3 years. The last time I seen you was racing in the IFCA spec race with Mazda Miata’s 5+ years ago. I also just got Forza6 for X-Mas and just got the Fanatec V2 wheel base with V3 pedals for Xbox one and PC and it’s a blast to play. The force feedback was really strong for me with this setup, I turned mine now to 40. I also added a Forza Playseat to mount all the Fanatec parts and it’s an awesome setup.
Back on topic, I use hood cam when racing with my wheel. Feels the best to me. I like cockpit but it really limits your view in multiplayer. I wouldn’t mind getting back into some racing leagues that run on the weekends in the near future.
I always play in cockpit, (on a pad) and only play multiplayer. Chase cam is quicker, but not as much fun.
What I’ve started to do is use chase cam at the start of the race, and once I’m past the carnage of the first few corners switch back to bumper cam. Seems like some people launch their cars sideways at the line.
i currently play bumper as you get a better sense of speed and i also have a full Thrustmaster race wheel and GT Omega setup

The biggest issue i have using the wheel and bumper in the lobbys in not being able to see left or right before going for a apex but that being said in your first lobby race don’t aim to win but try and get the fastest clean lap this will make a massive difference in getting away from the carnage of the first sets of corners in you nrext race . so needing to see left and right becomes less important when you up front with clean races
I use cockpit view with the controller, if u get used to using the mirrors i find it quiet comfortable to use, however it has it cons in online lobbies
I use cockpit view for all of my races online/offline, the update helped with knowing the location of the opponents that are close behind. Best of luck!
Only cockpit wiew with a controler, Manuel shifting and no Tcs or Abs, and at least tires and fuel damage. If i play online otherwise i have it on simulation damage.
But all these things combined is why i can’t play online on public servers!! So that only happens with my few friends.
That is actually why i went on this site to night, trying to read up about this… I mean there got 2 be moore gamers who want to race like this… right!?
I’m strictly cockpit.
Cockpit all the way unless the vision is poor through the windscreen or there are no mirrors then its hood view, chase cam doesn’t work for me at all not sure why.
Cockpit always, even in that R8 Le Mans R-Class thing that makes you think you’re looking out of a prison window. Anything else simply doesn’t give me the same sensation I’m racing. The proximity arrows were a welcome addition to those in blind spots or to give a warning for rammers incoming, though and I definitely use those (proximity arrows) on top of mirrors and right-stick to look next to me when racing side to side to the next sharp turn.
Chase cam I tried only shortly and I don’t know… since Gran Turismo 2 on the PSX that doesn’t work anymore for me, haha. But it’s also a matter of getting used to, just like FM6 is my first time I started learning racing with clutch instead of auto clutch. It’s paying off now.
I also love the cockpit view. id recommend keeping an eye on your proximity gauge… If you are less than 20’ from someone be careful, hold your line and leave some space
Cockpit for me whether wheel or controller. I like chase cam for the ability to see the cars but I’m a way worse driver in anything but cockpit and dash modes.
Where exactly is the proximity gauge? I generally try to keep situational awareness w/ the mirrors but there are definitely some significant blind spots on most cars.
I use a wheel and hood cam. Cockpit field of view is too limited.
I’m on a controller and use 75% cockpit and 25% hood view.
Just depends on the group of racers, but been doing it for years in open lobbies and leagues. I find it very difficult to drive from the overhead view.
It has not been a problem, especially if the racers use their MIC/Headsets when passing.
I’m a cockpit only driver as well, both offline and online. I even drive in cockpit mode in public lobbies, however, I have to be sure to watch corners and passing on straightaways – otherwise I get sideswiped or rear-ended by opponents that don’t like the fact I’m ahead of them (or about to pass them).
