I normally use the 3rd person view for the first couple of corners then switch to cockpit cam.
Yeah, I started that in this last series of league races and found it helps avoid many of the first turn accidents that plague this game. I had a race last night where simply avoiding the first turn accident put me in the top 5, even when I started at the back of the pack of 18 cars.
