Anyone else struggling to love this game?

Ive been a Forza player since day one, but I just cant seem to get into this one, Im constantly underwhelmed and bored after only an hour or so. This game feels like F3, which at release I felt was disappointing, because it didnt really seem to expand on F2, and 5 is the same. Its missing a ton of features from 4, just has shinier graphics. On the point of graphics, I keep waiting for a realistic looking version and it still just looks like a really nice game rather than a genuine attempt at a serious sim. The graphics are nice dont get me wrong, but it just doesnt look realistic enough for me to get into it in a way that makes it feel real, right down to the replays that employ camera angles that arent possible in real life. Even the physics arent doing it for me, cars seem to lock up the brakes far to easily, and its to easy to get the cars sliding IMO. Maybe Im just being grumpy, but I feel like I probably should have given 5 a miss and waited to see what 6 turns out like, though that will probably just look and feel identical to 5 with the missing features from 4 put back in. I keep playing it, determined to get into it, it just doesnt seem to be happening.

I love it for what is is, but dislike it for lack of content and lack of a Nissan S14. Haha.

Im with you on the content. When I knew this version was coming I was hoping for dynamic weather and night races (even gran turismo had that), real time damage, and maybe even some little nice tweaks like being able to walk a garage full of your favourite ten cars for example. It just feels like a stripped down version of 4 (so more like forza 3 then) with improved poly counts and resolution, but little else.

Nope, Love it!
Best graphics by far. Best race feel. Tracks are accurate.

As far as your car sliding easy or locking up. You might want to do a search on controller settings. If you’ve been around since FM1 I’m assuming you have a tune on it.

Ye I always tune my cars, and usually have a few tunes on the go, including tire pressures, tire camber, brake balance, and so on. I run cockpit view, no assists and manual gearing. I can drive fine, its more just the way it feels in general, I dont feel like the cars are that connected to the road, its all too smooth and computery. Maybe I just expected to much to happen with the One being next gen, Im not sure, but I was expecting more than just a spit and polish which is all I feel we got, especially as the game has lost a lot of features since F4. I was hoping for a realistic looking colour scheme, rather than the uber colourful super shiny one we have, and some things, like the lens flare effects from the cockpit view seem like they were put in just because its was technically possible, rather than any thought going into whether they actually should be implemented in the way they have been, sometimes its so bright and distracting you cant see the next corner coming up.

While it feels rushed (and it was to meet the launch date and various convention dates), it’s better than FM4 where it counts (physics, progression, graphics, audio)… There are lots of little annoyances and missing out of race features (garage grouping, clubs, a true community storefront, and detailed car data to name a few), it’s not reduced my enjoyment of the game. I was late to the XB1 (picked one up last week as a matter of fact), so I knew what to expect. Are there enough tracks? No, but the tracks that are there are incredibly detailed. The updated tracks are great. The new-to-Forza tracks are awesome, and I’d rather them hold back unfinished and/or unupgraded tracks. I’m enjoying it as much as I remember enjoying FM4 when it released (and I still enjoy FM4). I really like the new career mode, and the drivatars are far better than (but still need work) what passed for AI in previous versions.

Will I feel the same of FM6 if all of the little annoyances are still there and we still have a limited tracks? No… I will be disappointed… But, I’ll still play and have fun…

I love the game for what it is. It’s on a new platform and they started from the ground up. It is lacking a lot of content, but for what it is, it’s great. Forza 6 should have much more in it when released. Just my 2cents

Only thing I don’t like is this; happens now and then.

You put 2 or 3 laps in and feel like ok great the tires should be nice and toasty and grippy as they can be. Instead the opposite occurs and the car handled better on the cold tires you began with.

That’s a racing impossibility. It doesn’t happen every race but it does happen enough I find it annoying.

That and I still want a Jeep Wrangler in this game. If we have step vans and delivery vehicles there is no reason we can’t have a Jeep Wrangler.

You just need to lower your tire pressure on those specific cars.

Agreed… Try going down to 28 psi… That’s where I usually start…

OMG. It is true about the cold tires. I thought it was just me.

Cold tires a predictable and stable opposite to warm tires: twitchy and sensitive to heat changes.

I must admit the drivatars are a bi improvement over the AI, which was terrible. Agreed on tire pressures as well, I vary the pressures for the fronts and rears depending on the weight balance of the car, most of that is due to the engine placement, but it makes a big difference. The game does seem to have cars suffering with understeer much easier than I expect, you really have to tune well to stop every car understeering easily, which shouldnt be the case in many cars.

I’m still lovin it since day 1

Me too. I like how if you have the car you can race. Nothing to unlock in career. So best forza yet in that dept. tracks are awesome with the way they have been scanned.

Hello M0ONFLY,
I’m kinda new to the Forza series. I’m enjoying it lots but I can understand exactly what you mean. I’ve played many racers in the past and although some were touted as being excellent, I just couldn’t get into them. I tried for ages but it didn’t happen. It just didn’t feel right or satisfy my racing needs.
Maybe if you keep playing you might find some elements within the FM5 package that you like.

I have read other Forza fans saying that FM5 is lacking in many areas that its predecessors succeeded in, I feel this is down to the new technology.
I think Forza 5 was a little bit rushed in order to ‘showcase’ the Xbox One. FM6 will probably expand more on what FM5 is, the foundation.
I bought it last week. I think its an amazing game and I love it lots. I’m having heaps of fun. The sensation of speed is brilliant
Sorry to hear that you’re not enjoying it as much as the other titles.

The only thing I’m struggling with is remembering what I used to like to do that didn’t involve Forza 5.

I remember something called “friends”. “Family” rings a bell, too. What they mean, I have no idea. Like waking up from a dream where the details fade.

Oh, and “eating”. This one was really important. I think.

But struggling to love the game? No.

Do I love the game? That is a tough question. I love parts of the game. The part I don’t love is the career races. I prefer the career modes in 3 and 4. The career mode in 2 was better. I had a feeling of advancing in the older versions. There seemed to be a more logical progression in the races. I don’t get that feel in 5. I hope version 6 has a better career mode and more tracks. Time of day and weather would also be nice.

I don’t have the game, but from what I’ve heard, it’s great. We should be more happy of what we were blessed with in the game (great graphics & sounds, Drivatars, and beautifully detailed cars and tracks), rather than disliking everything because of fewer content than past games or things that have yet to be in a Motorsport (fewer cars & tracks, no time/weather changes, and bad career). I think that FM5 is an improvement over FM4, not a downgrade.

Get the game and your opinion will change after a bit unless you’re the demographic that T10 was shooting for.

The game does a great job of making you bored and feeling isolated once the newness wears off.

IMO the only noticeable upgrade is the pretty factor, the ring’s layout, and improved physics. Place those improvements with FM4 as a starting point and you got yourself a killer game. Unfortunately that is not the case here. I don’t personally know anyone who thinks the Drivatars were a blessing.
