[ANSWERED] Horizon 4 Online Play - See end post

I Hopped into some ranked adventures because I was pretty excited to see some sort of ranked mode come to Horizon.

The first few adventures went pretty well, besides the obvious stuff like ramming and poor racing quality.

Then I had the incredible misfortune of getting into a S2 rally lobby. In the first race, the winner demolished everyone, he was ahead of 2nd place by at least 10 seconds. In the second race I noticed he was doing something that instantly changed my opinion of the online experience of this game. He was wallriding and winning by car lengths.

Seeing that, I have no doubt that anyone who is a high rank in this game won’t actually be good at racing, but good at riding the walls.

I’m pretty disappointed that Turn10 couldn’t think of any way to fix or nerf this strategy by time the game came out. Have 90° walls, or no walls at all. Walls that follow the path of the corner is a clear invitation to just slam into the wall and ride it around.

i would add to this list

lack of possibility to switch the tune of a car between adventure … to either suit the car to the next races or change the class of a car to an other to suit the class of the new adventure if it changes

if freeroam rush is changed for a normal freeroam (like in FH3) … add the possiblity to tune the car or change for a downloaded tune here either

This list is it right here. All the problems in one place. Can you add Off Road need to be more realsitic, more rough, more off roady lol. also freeroam rush just needs to go, not chnaged just get rid of it. Id also like to see 6 races in championships, 1 qualifier to detremine the grid positions and 5 races.

Explanations of the behavior your experienced below.

Team adventure and Ranked one have same sickness. Logic with team based races is that one player get 100 points passing 1 car of the other color and 50 points more in case winning the race.

if you think it at team level, if you just pass 1 car clean you get 100 points for your team BUT if you crash it, you get the 100 points and you raise the chances for your team mates to pass it too. Pushing logic further if you get this crashed player to ragequit, you get instant 600 points for your team, almost same than winning race itself.

Considering maximum. Someone playing clean makes 650 points for ‘his’ team at the ultimate maximum. Same player ultimate ramming makes 650 + 600 +600 + 600 + 600 + 600 = 3650 points for his team at the ultimate maximum.

My conclusion is, the objective in team adventure and ranked is not to win races as an individual, the objective is that your ‘team’ wins the CS. Even not doing it from calculation, one player has more chances to win CS by wall riding and crashing other color players than racing clean.

The best players are therefore players expert at wall riding, ramming like hell and possibly chatting with mates making it team wide strategy.

Have a look at FH4 masters, you will get a good sight of the very best rammers/wall riders of the game.

That gameplay is, up to me and FOR CLEAN RACERS, totally screwed from its very concept.

This. I played during Asia prime time for a while this morning, and it was amazing - even in A street, lots of Raptors banging. The meta game is entirely about taking out opponents, not about winning the race. Multiple times near the end of free roams especially, someone would sacrifice their finish to prevent multiple opponents from hitting the end target. A completely un-fun, but incredibly effective strategy.
It was nearly impossible in these groups to go 12th to first, which i do routinely at other times.
The delta between fastest and slowest was also much much lower than I’ve encountered before in this game, whixh really shows the weakness of the track design. When you’re 5-abreast, heaviest wins, not fastest.

I’m still searching for a reason why lobbies don’t exist in this game. Who wouldn’t want to pick the car class and terrain they race on? This should be a no brainer but instead you have no choice and can only race what the game picks. How is this acceptable in gaming in this day and age? I started online gaming on the PS2 and they had lobbies in games. Why are we going backwards with gaming? Why do tried and true formulas just keep disappearing or get replaced by inferior systems? Why why why?

1.My team won the match 3-0, but my score has dropped! why? ! Really ridiculous!

2.When I play with my friends, often only some players can receive an invitation to join the competition. If there are not enough players in the event, you must manually match the match again, otherwise the system will automatically match again, but only the captain can receive the event invitation. It wastes us a lot of time.

3.When I randomly formed a team, my teammates always surprised me. Even if I get the first place in every game, they can always let our team lose the game. Everyone knows! What is the fun of such a team adventure? ! Not to mention the malicious collision of the opponent.

Square walls make it easier to ram others from behind, leaving them at a dead stop while the offender continues on.

Contact racing relies on good sportsmanship and a specific skill set. It’s somewhat of a miracle it’s not worse, on average.

I did notice the wall riding thing aswell. Sadly on some tracks it is by far the fastest way to make corners.
Yesterday i was playing a match and noticed the same thing, tried to wallride myself on the track i was on and performed way better…

Although this was already a thing in forza horizon 3 but there a point system was in place which was in the benefit of the clean drivers. Sadly they removed this point system in fh4 most likely due the wallriders crying not being placed 1st on the leaderbords even though they crossed the finish line first. In fh3 i even had a few hatemails from wallriders complaining to me when i beat them on the leaderbord by driving clean. At least no hatemails now since wallriders got what they want in fh4.

I can’t be bothered to read all 58 pages here, but i just wanted to weigh in with my biggest problems with the online here. At first i could not really figure out why the online was such a step back from the previous games. But i think i got some ideas here:

  • Freeroam rush sucks! too chaotic, no sense of strategy or map knowledge. Unless you spend months on learning the best route to the destination, you will end up in a wall, tree, lake or something else that can block your path. Why is this even in the racing playlist? It also means that offroad cars will always be the best choice, since theres ALWAYS offroad in this mode. Anyone who chooses a road car will be demolished by the offroad cars

  • Team Adventure sucks! i get the idea behind this choice, but it DOES NOT work. Its every man for himself, and having your own teammates push off a checkpoint, ramming you and not cooperating in generel just makes it worse.

  • People not driving off the start line. This one should be really easy to fix. Just ghost the player if they are not engaging the throttle when the race starts, so that the player behind can just pass. It will almost right away make for a better start

  • Some track- car and carclass combinations are really just terrible. Having S2 998 class cars in a street race with a full lobby is just a bad idea, especially if its winter.

  • make checkpoints wider. This will right away make it much less frustrating being pushed away from a checkpoint

  • make us able to vote for the car class in each respective playlist

  • the “pvp” races needs to be integrated with the “team adventure” part of the system. I never see anyone using the pvp option nor do i ever join one. at least make the tiny icon for these popups much clearer as its so hard to see atm.

  • forzathon live is boring and repetitive. Take a note from Burnout paradise, i know theres old Criterion guys working at Playground games, i mean you guys should know how to make it fun and exciting.

  • multiplayer in furtune island. no multiplayer in furtune island? i mean wtf?! we got it in all the expansions, why was this never advertised?

  • make lobbies smaller, as its too chaotic in its current state.

  • Leaving the game and my convoy not following me is extremely annoying! i constantly have to make my freinds rejoin my convoy after we leave a session

  • Make us able to leave between races. That way we also get rid of people not starting at the beginning of a race, because they are afk or maybe they just want to leave.

  • wallriding. Make it so you lose speed when you grind up against a wall after a certain amount of time. This is just a retarded tactic atm.

For god sake please don’t claim for this. PVP is the only spot I manage to find some players willing to play clean. I agree it lacks some visibility from others players but any connexion with the garbage collector, sorry, the team adventure, would contaminate it.

Support for suggestion has upgraded, now one can pick game name for posting a feedback and RK is automatically assigned the call. I refresh lot of my requests. If you wish to support one you just have to log a call and indicate tag in the description like #16366 for instance.

Rivals with same car for everyone is a good idea but blocking possibility to test cars on empty tracks is bad for people doing tuning and bad for diversity

Proposing : Rivals challenge.

  • Possibility to select any car, any season
  • Possibility see score by track, for any car or specific car.
  • Add a driver dashboard with score of all rivals done with car info, time and tune used.
  • Add achievements on having done all the races with a same car for 1 season for instance.
  • 2 ranking one with collision detection, one without so that everyone can enjoy rivals

Finishing a race, it would be great to see the rival time on same track you did possibly with same car.

As we are making an update to how online/multiplayer is going to be shown I am going to lock this thread.
This is due to the reason as previously mentioned:

Any further post made on the forum relating will be locked and given a link directed here to read through.
I don’t want anything wasted/lost here and there is alot of relevant ideas alongside a few things mentioned being included. Once the new update is underway, I will make a new thread which will include further discussion.
