[ANSWERED] Forza Horizon 4 wont launch (PC)

installed it today and it would just crash at launch. i read in a different forum that RivaTuner (installs with MSI AfterBurner by default as it requires it to run) may be the culprit. sure enough i closed RivaTuner and the game launches just fine

IF YOU HAVE MSI AFTERBURNER, RIVA STATISTICS, EVGA XOC, ANY CLOCKING OR STATISTICIAL PROGRAMS, OR OVERLAYS, CLOSE THEM, AND TRY TO START AGAIN.

Close any Overclocking Utilities EG MSI Afterburner or EVGA Precision X etc.

For some reason these are incompatible with the game.

Looking for a fix.

So I tried everything and nothing worked then I saw many people saying that I should close RivaTuner and it worked 100%!! Try it because it will probably work!

dont have any of those programs and yep goes on the small spash screen window than black screen in that window than closes…

at first i tried it on my 960 2gb and it did it and than i thought maybe idk cant run it even tho it should… But nope… tried it on my 1080ti and still the same…

Hi guys the message that keeps coming up on my pc is that
Check the Windows Store for more info about Forza Horizon 4.
doenst even start. my laptop is a gaming Lenovo Y70 16gb RAM Nvidia 960M

Welp found out the issue for me… I have 3 cards in my system for other uses which the 960 is my main card while the 1080ti is for other work. also have a old 5450 amd card too drive a monitor on its own…

well i decided too disable that card. and yep the game works fine… So it seems like the game is trying too use that card for some reason…

The other forza games work fine with all cards in and knows which card the main monitor is plugged in… i mean really??? this game needs patchs too fix these problems…

well we don’t have other choice but to wait… its a shame though… 100E game not being able to play… :frowning:

Same here, bought the game on microsoft store and the only thing it does when i launch it is showing me the main picture of the Mclaren Senna and the suv/jeep, please help!!!

I can finally play! For me the issue was the software MacType. You either need to uninstall it and reboot or disable the service and reboot, the reboot part is important!

I could start the game after installing it on my D drive (not SSD) instead of C drive (SSD) <<<<

Its the RivaTuner app. More specifically the compatibility properties. I ran into this same issue a while back with The Division.

  • What you need to do is open Riva Tuner and click on the ā€˜Setup’ button.
  • At the bottom section of the new window there is a ā€˜Compatibility Properties’ section.
  • Uncheck - ā€˜Enable 64-bit application support service’
  • Click ā€˜OK’

Game should run. However if you were using Riva to the FPS/CPU/Mem status onscreen. It will not appear. After the game starts you can actually go back into the Riva settings and re-enable the 64-bit application support and it should appear again. The only pain is that each time you launch the game you will have to disable it in order for it ā€˜not’ to crash

Does not work, it’s a forza issue as this ONLY started happening after this first patch for some user’s.

Everything worked once I unplugged my vr headset.

I was having the same problem with crashing on the splash screen with no error message. I tried everything I could find on the internet to fix it. Turns out I just needed to update windows. I feel so stupid, but I was also never notified that I had an update waiting.

For all those having this problem try this.

  1. Go to Rivaturner settings.
  2. Set ā€œApplication Detection Levelā€ to none.
  3. Relaunch the game.

This worked for me

TRANFER THE FILES TO THE MAIN DRIVE. HERE ONLY WORKED AFTER THIS.

What if it’s already in the main drive? XD

So i figured out what was breaking my game… Turns out if you have headphones that have a DAC or a mini DAC attached to your PC, you must unplug it until the game fully boots up. Apparently this is the same if you have a VR headset as well.

This is a disgrace, a game is bought to install and play. Don’t have to do 1000 things and lose several afternoons to make the game work. And yet it still doesn’t work. I don’t have to waste my time because you haven’t done your job. I don’t have to do 1000 things to my PC risking to destabilize something. I’m not a technician, I’m a player. Pay and play, that’s the deal, and you haven’t kept it. I don’t have problems with any game, ever, ever. Why do I have to do all this? If it’s useless. Why doesn’t it happen to me with games by Steam, Ubisoft, Origin etc…? I didn’t spend 100€ to do your job. If it doesn’t work, I’ll return it and wait for it to come out in Steam.
