Game has been running fine for me for months, last week I loaded up the game and my graphics settings had reset to default. Put my normal settings back and noticed a ton of stuttering, well it’s more of a skipping than stuttering, FPS is bouncing from 60 to 56 multiple times per second. (limited to 60 fps cause this game feels awful at 140 for some reason) If I uncap my FPS the skipping goes away but the game just feels awful and like I said, it’s been running fine capped for months.
When it happened a week ago I just restarted my PC and it was fine, can’t seem to fix it this time with just a restart. Graphics drivers and windows are all up to date, I recorded a clip of the issue if anyone has any ideas? Only happens Forza, my other games are running fine still.
I have got new RTX2080Ti. Unlocked benchmark shows min. 110 FPS to max 150FPS with average 140…
3440 x 1440, 100Hz - no chance to get butter smooth (sync, gsync. no sync, whatever). Always some frustraiting micro stutters. This game has broken engine. That’s all.
EDIT:
After many another tests, I found some workaround that works for me. Almost no microstutters. I hope for longer.
So, that’s my solution.
Setting in nVidia - custom for Forza 7 - Prefered refresh - highest (maybe this setting is not so importand but I have it now), V-Sync - 3D App settings, Sync Tech - G-SYNC, Energy - Prefer Maximum Performance.
LCD - max 100Hz (in my Asus it is OC mode), it works like that non stop in all other games, G-Sync ON. Maybe everything above 60FPS will work!*
Forza 7 settings - ALL setting for MAX, One setting (that about %) set to 100%. But refresh set for 60 FPS (without sync)**.
**Setting 60 FPS with sync in fact wroks as 100 FPS. Microstutters occur. Unlocked - 140 FPS or more - micro stutters occur, Unlocked with sync - 80-100 FPS stutters occur.
But! 60 FPS without sync wotrks in fact with GSYNC. No stutters. It has one cone. In this settings game rander 60 FPS not more. But I prefer 60FPS without stutters than 100FPS with mircostutters few time for a lap.
*Its quite importasnd to have LCD with higher refresh rate bacause if we have only 60 there will be frame tearing (strange but I observed it if LCD was on 60Hz (without OC).
This solution should work for all users with fast nVidia cards and faster then 60Hz G-Sync panels.
I think game engine is not prepared for anything more than 60FPS. Also sync is problem for game engine. In this case game makes what is best for engine - stable 60FPS. G-Sync LCD waits for every frame and for now this solution is best for me… Hope will good for You too.
This is UTTERLY … RIDICULOUS and thats the PG-13 version not ONLY is my game still stuttering on a bossed up rig … I’ve done pretty much all of the above to try and fix it including all the other suggestions and still nothing … but … but now not only is my game stuttering like hell but now I can’t even get online at all …like AT ALL!! … im immediately disconnected from the servers the moment I try and connect through the pc … game used to play buttery smooth in 4k about a year ago but as more updates come out the game on PC just seems to keep getting worse - we’ve had sound updates … more mustangs and a few other cars … more mustangs … (lots of freakin mustangs!!) and thats cool n all but I find it really annoying how this is the ONLY game out of my entire catalog not even horizon 4 having this same problem - 1080p … locked at 60fps … disabled all background processes … vsync on … off … ect ect - Gsync on on a gsync panel…even tried it in overclock mode tried a higher refresh rate panel and so on … NOTHING …still have these random micro stutters and as stating before now I can’t even get online at all … [Mod Edit - Abbreviated profanity, profanity and profanity that is disguised but still alludes to the words are not permitted - D] … FIX THE PC SIDE OF THE GAME!!! What kills me is its a known issue and absolutely nothing is being done to fix this …
I found out my stuttering was caused by my anti-virus. Now I’m playing stutter-free. Now if I could figure out what causes it to occasionally freeze on a black screen while loading…
edit - when I made this post originally, the user above didn’t have ‘forza staff’ under his/her name but looked like a regular member which is why I asked.
soooo still not addressed huh? lets see, I bought this game last july, started having problems last july, changed anti virus, got a week of smooth gameplay, stutters started again, uninstalled anti virus again, a day of smooth gameplay, stutters again, I wont change anti virus again.
Fix your damn game, if you or your public relations guy visit the forums you can see many stuttering complains, no need for tickets to know something is seriously wrong, get someone from Playground games or something, they seem to know how to fix it
Came back to FM7 after a few month and guess what, the stutters/hickups are back.
And again, it is not random but always on the exact same spot on some tracks. For example, Nurburgring GP last corner (worst offender right now). It’s more of a short freeze, multiple times.
I tried pretty much every idea here in this thread, I even uninstalled and downloaded the game again.
Tried old nvidia drivers (WDDM problem…), disabling windows defender.
Nothing.
The problem is still there.
It is enough to use the benchmark as a test. If I use lowest settings unsynced, I get ~110 FPS but with drops (always in the same moment in the benchmark) down to 50. Using highest settings v-synced to 60, I get 60 FPS with drops down to 40. These FPS drops always occur in the exact same moment during the benchmark. It’s likely to be the same hiccups/freezes that you get on track during racing.
Game is unplayable on PC, only thing i can recommend is to play it on Xbox One X. 4K/60FPS (60FPS is ok for a race game)
After a specific patch (~4 month after release) the game started to stutter and it still exists like you guys say. My specs: R7 1700, GTX 1080TI, 16GB 3200MHZ
Horizon 3/4 on the other hand runs very good on PC
Despite my frustration, I was still trying to find a way to get rid of these hitches.
And I found it!
It’s a combination of two things., at least for my system.
i7-8700k (no OC)
16GB RAM
GTX 1080 (no OC)
SSD
CPU affinity
CPU priority
And so far, there is only one single combination which results in a completely smooth experience.
I tried various CPU affinities. Setting affinity to CPU 1 + 2 + 3 results in siginifcant less stutters/hitches. And in addition to that, I set CPU priority to realtime. Both of these settings in combination finally give me back the smooth experience that I usually got with FM7.
Strange thing is, that it seems like that with every FM7 or Windows 10 update, there is a chance that it reintroduces the hitches/stutters, even though previously FM7 was running perfectly fine.
My abovementioned solution didn’t work today and the hitches and stutters are back. But there was no update on FM7 or Windows 10. There must be some crazy stuff going on under the hood of FM7 and Win10.
I mean what the heck? One day it works and the next it doesn’t?
2080ti and 2700x here game installed on a hdd but tried it on a ssd still got stutter especially in mp or sp with lots of cars
will this ever be fixed this game is nearing 2 years old
There is definitely something wrong with this game. I tried the built-in benchmark and regardless of what settings you use, it stutters a few times during it. I mean, I tried vsync on and off, I tried capping at 60fps and uncapped, running at the very lowest settings, I even tried running at a very low resolution. Even with the average fps in the hundreds you can see it visibly stutter, very jarring. There is something weird going on with vsync as well because using normal settings, with it set to 60fps (vsync) it reports a minimum of 41 (and average 60) but with vsync off the minimum is over 50. Even though it can manage more like double that.
But with the game having been out for two years and T10 maintaining complete radio silence on this issue, it looks like we can assume they don’t care to fix it, or even to demonstrate the basic common courtesy of commenting on it, and perhaps apologising to the customers.
Can’t remember if mentioned before but it also stutters badly in the car selection screen, on a fast PC with SSDs and plenty of RAM. Every time you switch to a different car, the rotating car pauses for half a second, then resumes rotating. I am curious if it does that on Xbox consoles as well.
Yeah, I got that too, incl. stutters even in the loading screen animations when loading a race. But it has always been this way for me, even at times when everything on track was completely smooth at vsynced 60 fps.
These stutter/hitches almost feel like somthing inbuild into the game. It always happens at the same time, always on the same spots on tracks. It’s as if FM7 is programmed to hitch at that specific moment.
Can confirm, I have barely played this game since launch in 2017 due to stuttering. Finally decided to uninstall avast and my stutter issue went away.
I more or less need my AV software though, so unfortunate that, this is what seems to be the root of the issue.
I get this what seems to be random, singleplayer or multiplayer it doesn’t matter, its not even track specific either, tho it seems to happem more during night time races, And when it happens its like constant until the race is over, But it cuases me to cut corners trying to compensate for the stutter or it cuases me to bump another player or when I ride their rear bumper and I can’t slow down fast enough becuase of the stutter, it drives me nuts…
Tho what seems to work a bit for me is if I limit the FPS to 60 vsync off, Unlocked with or without Vsync I get these stutters, though FPS is always well above 100.
I run Malwaarebytes Primium, and Windows defender, thats it for security software. I disabled the game bar, the DVR crap, and also disabled shadowplay, but it makes no difference. Game mode on or off also makes no difference.
The game like all my games are installed on a pair of raid 0 sata based SSD’s, Storage speed is not a problem, and Im not going threw the hassel of installing this game on a HDD…
I recently replaced my ageing 1050 Ti with a 1660 Ti and it hasn’t made any difference to the stuttering.
That's on ultra which is too much for the 1050 Ti of course, but even on the lowest settings both cards stutter. Only in this game. As low as 10 fps on a 1660 Ti. Even the extremely demanding Dirt Rally 2.0 maxed out, never dropped below 55 !
Here is another video with a graph of the frametime spikes, regardless of settings. And showing another game where the frametime never spikes, just to show it’s not my system.
I too have loads of stuttering. Read this thread and tried all of the potential solutions but nothing worked. I have now submitted a refund request but I fear I have went over the 2 hour play time limit just trying to fix the game. I feel robbed.
