ALERT - Return to freeroam to accept

Every time I enter a race I get that not so lovely pink warning box telling me I must return to freeroam to accept an alert, thankfully, this one doesn’t have the annoying beeps to go with it! As soon as I enter freeroam, I press X and it goes away, as soon as I enter a race it comes back… Just another really annoying thing about this game!

My query… Why do I have to return to freeroam to accept any alert? (disconnected, tuning a car and being ‘inactive’, these non existent alerts), why can’t they be accepted anywhere? Why do I have to back out of what I’m doing just to see the exact same message the alert told me?

FH: Alert, you’ve been disconnected, return to freeroam to accept
Me: Back out tuning menu, back out upgrades menu, back out cars menu, wait for screen to load
FH: Press X to accept
Me: Press X
FH: You’ve been disconnected

I’m really getting sick of this game now!

I logged a ticket for this, its very intrusive. I also imagine that beeping as well as being annoying is something worse for those with audio sensitivity issues.

Was the same in FH4 for three years, much complained about, never acknowledged as an issue by the devs. So while I hope your ticket gets it fixed this time, don’t hold your breath.

This is the difference between the lip service they pay to accessibility, and the reality.

In reality their games are chock full of irritations and annoyances which they don’t care about.

Yup, exactly like it was on FH4. Why are you surprised? lol.

What happens if you don’t press X in time?

Nothing.

Exactly this. It is annoying, but to a small degree. Just ignore it.

In FH4 the message would sit there, forever, until you return to free roam to dismiss it.

Wait there are messages without countdown too?

Yes. One example is the message about being disconnected from Horizon online. I think that message goes away after a while in FH5. In FH4, it stays there until you go back into freeroam.

There were but I don’t feel they were as intrusive, IIRC they didn’t beep through the entire countdown. The Arcade countdown ‘stay with group’ is the worst one and new to FH5, it beeps throughout, cannot be cancelled and remains on screen for over 3 minutes. At this point its quicker for me to force quit the game and reload to kill it.

It was exactly the same. Depends on the event, and specific circunstances. The frikkin problem is that the msg doesnt go away no matter how much time it is on the screen. Ridiculous.

I’l take your word for it but I don’t remember them appearing as often for as long with the beeping throughout it.

Infact it’s better in 5 than it was in 4. I don’t know how often I was in the design editor and got that pesty message with the related bleep, bleep, bleep countdown. It was so annoying that I often saved the progress, left the garage and switched from freeroam to SP to not have it appear again.

But then every time you start the game it will bug you to go online. Whatever you do, it will find a way to tell you you’re doing something wrong and should be doing something else.

I play on XSX and currently I must stay in freeroam until my online queue pops. If I don’t then I get some disconnect error message. Basically I can’t multitask. So instead I go to these forums while I wait.

This is a design flaw which will become more irritating as the game gets older, player numbers drop and wait times get longer. I suspect it is because paused players could previously hold up the whole lobby, and so rather than engineer a simple timeout for those people if they don’t opt to join quickly enough, the devs apparently took the wrong option of just kicking people who are paused immediately, without giving them any chance to join.

I forgot that about that in FH4, you could set the searching for event action going and go and do something else e.g. check cars in garage. It had a timeout of 30 seconds IIRC if you didn’t go back to Freeroam and accept the match when found.

Now in FH5 unless I am in Freeroam when it finds an event it will not connect me, this has not improved loading times so I not sure what the change was for!

This common problem has a common solution. Most games I’ve played will not allow you to queue for anything for a short period like 5 minutes if you don’t accept a queue. The net result is players pay more attention to queues.

That would be overkill. All it needs to do is give you a short period to accept and kick you if you don’t. Not kick immediately, nor give a long time. Those of us on PC alt-tab frequently during waits and keep checking back to see if it’s ready. No longer possible in FH5. (I’ve stopped playing anyway but am still curious to see if they ever fix the tons of problems to make it worth returning. I doubt it.)
