A question, out of curiosity

After having combed through a lot of the threads that crop up for quite some time now, I’ve noticed that there is a peculiar opinion that Forza Motorsport is meant to be a full-on racing simulator, meant to encompass every facet of an absolutely pure, unadulterated racing experience - and should cast aside the baggage of “fantasy cars” and “vehicles that are out of place (lookin’ at you, limo)”. With that, there are others that might argue that Forza Motorsport is, has, and always will be, a game to celebrate everything “four-wheeled and fast” (Jeremy Clarkson actually said those few words in the FM5 intro, ironically) and is above all, a game to celebrate car culture in a comparatively controlled environment to say, Horizon. This of course means that things like the most to-reality physics engine, and finesse of handling, should be deafened down to create a game that everyone can enjoy rather than what might be considered a “niche audience”?

I’d rather this not turn into a wishlist thread, or anything like that. I’m just curious as to what your opinion might be for just what Forza Motorsport /is/ to you. Do you look to pry out every last millisecond from your lap times on the track, only accepting clean and professional racing for the sake of improving your skills and the satisfaction that you are driving a car you know you can see out on the track? Or do you like to take every vehicle from this particularly varied roster we have on here to do anything and everything you can think of to them - building them to the spec that they couldn’t possibly normally get to, or celebrating the oddballs of the car world like racecar beetle bugs, backwards limo drifting, tag, or anything like that? Perhaps it’s even a mixture of both?

Do tell!

TL:DR - What does Forza mean to YOU?

Personally, I play Forza mainly to try out the wide variety of cars available. There are better simulators out there for when I want a serious racing experience.

Racing games are the only ones I have ever been really good at. I have been playing racing games since Rally Cross and Ridge Racer on the PS1. I have never had a more fun online experience than a bunch of friends playing cat and mouse with PGR2.
All that said Forza6 is the best racing game I have ever played period. I have never played one more than this except PGR2 and I got all platinum medals in that one.
No it’s not perfect but damn I love this game.

Forza motorsport right from the start was marked as a driving simulator, Forza Motorsport one was called a mathematical reproduction of the real world. If you want to play a real racing sim play Forza 6, if you want to play a racing game with crashing and corner cutting Forza horizon is the game for you.

I like racing. I like the feeling of being able to eke out as much speed from a car as I can while trying to out drive and out think the other players around me.

I don’t give a toss about the cars, personally - I’ve probably only driven about 40 of them in total and most of those I’ve only driven few times - but I can understand why others do.

I play Forza to escape the demons from my combat PTSD.

I play Forza as an extension of my enthusiasm for the world of automobiles and human ingenuity. I’m not the fastest (but sure as hell not the slowest) and I don’t claim to know the model numbers and specs of every engine of every car, but I definitely find my fanaticism in Forza deeply rooted around Turn 10’s increasingly meticulous attention to detail and the game’s ability to allow me to escape to those roads less traveled, in machines seldom driven … even if just by way of a virtual reality.

Well said, as usual.

I use to race karts and when I gave this up I started playing racing games.l have only started racing online in the last six months and have found I get the same adrenalin rush racing in Forza 6.l now am a confirmed online racing junkie!

I’m with those who enjoy every aspect of the game, serious racing is great sometimes either on my own or with friends (I only ever create private lobbies online) but so is the other things in the game.

Photography
It’s great fun taking photos of different cars including but not limited to the random cars like the limo and hot wheels boneshaker for instance. And online photoshoots with friends I’ve met through mutual love of the game are also a whole bunch of crazy fun.

Endurance racing
I’ve recently started trying this out its different to normal racing I’m as much testing out my ability to stay focused for a significantly large amount of laps (my first endurance race was 200 laps) as I am racing to win but it’s oddly rather enjoyable and the XP & credits are magical.

Career mode/showcase events
I’ve been slowly dipping in and out of these either the original ones that came with the game at launch or the ones that come with the 2 expansion packs. They are fun to do but different people invite me to different things with them (photoshoots, races etc) online so I don’t always get the chance to do these but in an odd way I enjoy that I think I’d be bored sticking to the same thing all the time.

Collecting cars
Collecting cars is also great fun for me in Forza either through buying them, the VIP gift cars, winning them by joining in some events, promotional gift cars that sometimes get gifted or winning them on level spins it’s all great fun to me.

Achievements
Some achievements require you to drive specific cars or take part in specific showcases and usually these are cars I itherwise wouldn’t bother with so sometimes just to change things up a bit and as a bonus unlock another achievement I go and race in some of the cars required for specific achievements, some even require you do it on a specific track too!

All this and more is what I love about Forza, my first Forza game and why I fell in love with the series was FM4 which I started playing Jan 26th 2015 after discovering someone I live with owned it, so I gave it a try and loved it.

I remember my brother commenting that he didn’t think it would be my kind of game - ordinarily he would be right, I wouldn’t be seen dead in a formula 1 racing game for instance but my response to him was and still would be - Forza (Motorsport and Horizon) is more than just racing.

it’s playing with other people who love it like I do, it’s collecting a variety of serious and fun cars, it’s levelling up and earning new badges and achievements, it’s the ability to bring my real world passion (photography) into my love of games and take photos of some truly stunning cars that you wouldn’t get to do in the real world without looking weird, it’s the ability to get up close & personal with cars you couldn’t anywhere else, the ability to learn more about cars (I even found myself learning to pick out real cars in the real world and know what they were based on either the badge or the general look of the car) - Forza is basically Top Gear for gamers.

I’ve always been into Motorsport. Anything 4 wheels and fast.

I’ve played pretty much every racing game on xbox in the 15 odd years I’ve been a gamer. Forza took racing games on console to a new level, Imo. Some of that got lost on the way to where we are now though which is a shame, but ultimately forza 6 is an awesome game, sure it has its problems but it rare something is going to be completely perfect for everyone.

I’ve only ever really played in the leagues on FM6 (what a great addition by the way) and I’ve had some of the best racing I’ve ever had on this game and probably most other games, made some new friends that have the same mentality as me towards racing (Fast and clean).

I’m very competitive, in a good way - I’m not a bad loser!
I love to challenge myself and to better myself, I feel that racing in the pinnacle league since early access has made me so much faster and also a better racer. I try to be fair with everyone fast or slow just like I am with my mates. I’d rather have a good battle with someone, trying to pass them without incident, than just simply push them out the way because they are slower than me, for me the reward is planning and executing a move on someone and making it work. That’s what racing is all about.

I’m not really interested in the “novelty cars” but it doesn’t bother me that they’re in the game, each to their own.

Good diversion from staring at the TV all night. Its immersive enough to be really interesting to me but not overly complicated so as to require a degree from UTI in order to tune a few more seconds out of a car and show improvement. However its complicated enough that theres always something to learn. I realize its not a “full blown sim” but its close enough for me and certainly affordable.
I was also lucky to accidentally fall into a network of guys online that race clean and are helpful when I need it. Had I not met them I would have bailed on online racing altogether because racing in a lobby of people that don’t communicate is less fun than racing a bunch of AI that also don’t communicate and quite frankly, the AI are better behaved.

FH2 for me is that pleasant feeling to cruise around an open world with the radio volume loud (Horizon bass station!) in a luxury sports car while exploring the various towns and country sides. Meanwhile the kid in me enjoys collecting the XP boards, completing the bucket list items or just going cross country on a free roam trip. Considering everything the entire game has to offer this is for me still the most fun racing game on the XBox One to date.

FM6 is a car showcase and collection game since it’s one unique thing is the sheer amount of cars on a next gen console and the Forza Vista. But it lacks a great deal of immersion or realism to make it what I was hoping it would be.

Quite funny none of both games deliver to me what you would expect from a racing game in the first place: an authentic driving or racing experience. So far the only game on my XBox One capable of doing that is Dirt Rally. Potential competitors in this aspect are F1 2016 and Assetto Corsa both coming out later this year.

In my younger days I was a big F1 fan (Senna!) and belonged to a car club that hosted monthly parking lot slalom races against the clock. We’d also have an annual track day in Waterford Hills, Michigan. I drove a 1989 Suzuki Swift GTi and had a blast. Then real life took over - job, wife, kids - and I got away from the racing scene. I recently discovered the Forza 6 demo on my son’s XBox One and, long story short, became hooked. I’ve since bought a wheel and cockpit setup and have rediscovered my long dormant love of racing and F1. I also purchased PCars, mainly for the FFB experience, but I digress. I’m not into the painting/customizing/collecting aspects of Forza - I just love to race. The game has allowed me to recapture the thrill of driving at speed. I haven’t raced online yet, but plan to do so very soon. I’m really enjoying the Career Mode, and love to do hot laps around Spa in my 2015 Cayman. I have a love affair with anything Porsche, but will never be able to actually own one, so the game lets me get behind the wheel of the 911’s, 959’s and Carrera GT’s that I’ve always lusted after. I won’t drive 80% of the cars that Forza has to offer and that’s okay. I prefer to select 3 or 4 cars that I really love and just drive the hell out of them. My current real ride is a 2006 Mustang V6 so I really enjoy jumping into the Forza Shelby’s and GT’s as well.

I haven’t had this much fun playing a video game since I was a teenager, and that was a long time ago!

Cheers!

Racing games since PS1 and some Arcade Machines. Racecars adicted since my dad took me to the ring in 1975. I’ve been a PS guy until a good friend showed me FM 2.
Got myself a 360 next day and never regret. I love Forza cause of the community (lacks a bit cause of missing features in F5/6),but met so many nice guys in real at the ring, that i’d have never met without T10’s series.
But my point to waste time on a console is escaping from the stress at work and too bad eyes for adding some more laps in real at Nurburgring. (got 400-500 in age of 18-38)

Great thread.

The only reason I bought an Xbox One was for the Forza series - generally I’m Playstation faithful but racing games are the only thing I play anymore, and Forza is king. Gran Turismo has taken a serious downhill tumble in a number of ways, and Gran Turismo Sport certainly doesn’t look like a step in the right direction.

I view the entire Forza series (both Motorsport and Horizon) as a living, breathing, drivable encyclopedia of the most iconic cars that have ever been made. It’s a racing game, it’s eye candy, it’s driving around enjoying yourself on a large map. I take the racing part very seriously (at least on Motorsport, Horizon just isn’t that big a deal because it’s terribly unrealistic), but it’s just as much about the cars themselves and the joy of driving, even if it’s just virtually. There’s just something about taking in the sights and sounds. The graphics are so good at this point that when paired with a good wheel/pedal setup, the only thing missing is the heat, G-forces, and the smell of fuel and burnt rubber. The sounds are incredible, and each car really does feel different than the next. Honestly, it’s an incredible feat what Turn 10 have been able to accomplish.

The physics, while not “perfect”, are completely and totally acceptable. Personally, I love it that many of the “real world” aspects of racing can be turned off - tire wear, pitting, fuel usage, mechanical damage, etc. Frankly, I wish cosmetic damage could be turned off completely in FM just like FH, because eye candy. I just like driving, not worrying about all that other stuff. But having the option to turn all those things on for a more “realistic” experience is an absolute must and is much appreciated. I just don’t like to mess with it most of the time. Call me weak, but for the record, at least I drive with every single assist off.

Personally, I don’t care about auction house, storefront, gifting, tuning, liveries (seriously, I just don’t get liveries), or the more “social” aspects of the game that take away from driving, which is the core focus of the game. I don’t see how people can spend hours upon hours on paints/liveries and tuning - but it’s there for the people that want it, a LOT of people want it, and to each their own in that respect. Just another reason why the Forza series is so great. The only thing I find necessary is to slap a set of big rims on a car and change the paint color. The rest is just extra fluff for me but again, to each their own.

I know there’s been a lot of hatred from people toward Turn 10, but it’s mostly just people who have nothing better to do than to find something to complain about. Things can ALWAYS be improved, but it’s a terrific game in a terrific series, and I know Turn 10 will deliver for many years to come.

Forza is fun driving. It is not easy for me to be fast in all cars at all tracks and that challenge is what make Forza fun. Once you get used to Forza physics, the driving is solid for me. I can feel the difference in each car and each tune.

No other driving game has so many people sharing good tunes and liveries. Things have changed from Forza to Forza but the driving has always been the greatest part of the experience and that is why I play Forza everyday. I am level 2700+ and don’t plan on stopping until Horizon 3 and then Forza 7. Forza 6 is a good driving experience despite all of the changes Turn 10 has made to the features. I have hope that Turn 10 will keep the driving good. If missing and new features are added that is good for everyone.

I am tired of bashing Turn 10. I am sure they are not happy with the constant negative feedback. I have come to the understanding that companies make decisions and most of the time it feels like it has nothing to do with who they are selling their product to. I try to have fun with what Turn 10 has given me and that has been hours of enjoyment.

For me, Forza is a way to drive cars that I’d never be able to or care to in real life. For example, Miata’s, Pontiac Aztec, Prowler, and especially those fantastic little bright coloured French cars like the Clio or Megane.

I don’t feel that it’s a SIM game, some may but there’s more reasons why it isn’t than it is. I feel that Turn10 could push more out of these newer games, more tracks, cars, and possibly features. It may not concern most, but I’d like to have more than two back grounds to choose from- because at the end of the day you spend alot of time looking at the Main Menu, and while Rio De Janeiro is pretty I’d like to see more options.

Also I see alot of people asking for more gameplay towards drifting or drag racing, in my opinion they should make the game license restricted like Gran Turismo. Want to race online? Get a license for that. Want to drag race? Get a license for that - however we’ll never see anything like that because it’s a game for everyone now.

I have been a Forza Fan for 10 yrs. My Brother had bought an xbox “the original one”, and I believe Forza came with it. I played on his xbox for about 1 and 1/2 years, and then got one of my own. I have always loved Forza and I always will love Forza. It is a very playable racing game. I have bought every copy, every DLC, every add on and have never been disappointed with any of them. I will continue to buy every single thing T-10 does with this franchise. Sure there needs to be some things ironed out, but, I think they do a great job with it and I really hope they continue. I love all the things you can do with it, like RACING, TUNING, RACING, PAINT SHOP, RACING or just RACING! I have to say NURBURGRING is my favorite track in the game, what a fantastic job they did, I love the challenge of that track.
