I welded them all together and made the Datsun Voltron GT-R. The hydraulics were a bugger to work out. After that I switched to Forza. The GT community didn’t want me around anymore anyway, something about flying battlemechs made of Nissan sportscars being “cheating”. Pfft.
I’ve said this before and I’ll say it again…launch titles are traditionally weak.
Now before people go crazy let me explain. When FM5 was first shown people got REALLY excited and allowed that excitement to overrun their common sense. Now according to strong internet rumors, the Xbox One was set to release in May of this year, a full six months from it’s actual release. Six months is a LONG time to polish up a game and add content. The way these rumors go basically Sony caught Microsoft with their pants down by announcing a holiday release for the PS4. Microsoft in turn had to scramble to make the same launch window and not let their only real competition beat them to market. In doing this they needed a shiny system seller that was exclusive. Who better than T10 and FM5? If you think about the things that were broken and missing in both the console and the game these rumors make a lot of sense.
Now when I say launch titles are traditionally weak I’m looking all the way back to the PS2. Developers are still learning the new hardware. They are still trying to find ways to milk every ounce of oomph out of it. Thinking back there were a few games that seemed “WOW” at console launches but after about a year, when the Elder Scrolls caliber games would emerge it became obvious just how lacking those launch titles were.
Now with that being said, I will admit I am frustrated by the short comings in FM5, and at the same time I am shocked at what they were able to put out in a shortened development window going by the above rumors which I happen to believe.
New technology always gets people excited but sometimes it’s hard for people to keep in mind that if their favorite developers are going to be first out of the gate they haven’t managed to master that new technology at that point. I took this stand from the beginning and was quick to express frustration like so many others on these forums. It came across in a negative manner even though it wasn’t meant to and caused a lot of friction between me and some other people. At one point it even caused a blowup between me and Worm because he misunderstood my stance and ultimately ended up smacking me in the head with his hammer. But in the end some people just have trouble expressing their frustrations with a positive spin.
So do I think they will get FM5 to a point they are happy with and the community is happy with? No. Not being negative. I think they will continue to patch the game, but ultimately I’m looking ahead to FM6 to see what they come up with after having 4-5 years to work with the new box and learn all the ins and outs. In the mean time I will continue to enjoy the racing in FM5 and be happy, because I didn’t expect them to deliver a top notch game right out of the gate.
As for the complaints about DLC, at least there are 10 cars in each pack with one new one compared to 6 cars in Horizon with one new car.
It seems to me that a lot of people think because I bought DLC for Forza 3 or 4 I don’t need to buy it for Forza 5. As if the act of purchasing it once means it lasts forever. And if a car has appeared in the franchise before it must automatically be included as standard in perpetuity.
After much consideration I think forzavista is Greenawalts folly. It looks amazing but is ignored or unused by what appears to be the vast majority of players. So the practical thing to do would be to move it online only if you must keep it, or bin it entirely to free up space within the game structure for more events or features. No one can deny how great it looks but really it belongs on a manufacturers own website for prospective customers.
It may be true that the cars are all remodelled but the number of paint booth glitches and errors is as large as ever. I find this genuinely infuriating given how much the ‘triple AAA’ quality of rendering was emphasised.
And please don’t get me started on the choice of alloy wheels…
IF FM5 had not had full FORZAVISTA people would have been crying about the lack of foresight, lack of adding to the already-existing abilities.
As for “wheels” and add-ons, one needs to remember that certain automobile manufacturers and certain add-on product creators have contracts with each other which cannot be violated. Look back through the liveries in previous Forza Motorsport versions, and you’ll find people slapping “neat looking” logos and various sponsors on cars which in real life would never be allowed by their sponsorship contracts.
The wheels are okay. I just am disappointed in the fact that the chrome/machined lip is now painted with the rim. Also that the dish size of rims no longer increases based on tire width. I used to be able to cope quite easily with the lack of rims as I could put weld rims, deep dish and then paint the inside gold, so it still had the chrome lip. That way when the wheels were spinning the car would appear to have deep dish BBS’s.
I see where you are coming from , however I have to disagree about Forzavista. Of the five other players I am close friends with none, I repeat none, of us use forzavista. It’s an elegant trinket. Show me the stampede of forzavista fans babbling for more more more! … There are a few but they remain a tiny minority.
Regarding the wheels. You pushed the button so here it comes: let’s take an example. The TSW catalunya wheel. It appears in the split rim segment of the wheel menu. Now that’s a shame because this wheel is not a split rim! I know because I bought a set back in 2006. To the best of my knowledge this wheel was out of fashion and out of production years ago. In FM4 we continued to have the gemballa wheels even though the company was seized by the German authorities following the murder of Uwe Gemballa in South Africa., possibly over a money laundering deal that went wrong. Yet the wheels stayed in the game. To whom was the licensing monies paid?
Edit. I have checked and it seems that gemballa was purchased back by two of the company’s partners. Goodness! I got something wrong!
If you think the selection provided in FM5 is the slightest bit up to date you are mistaken. Look at the cars around you outside and see how many of the wheels in the game roll on by.
Omg I know, we have had the same wheels since fm1 if I recall. Pretty sure they even removed some in fm2 or 3. I understand licensing is expensive but they could atleast make their own forza brand wheels. On another note why should they have to pay for licensing wheels to begin with? It’s free advertising for the wheel manufacturers…
The cars have not been remodeled from the ground up. If they had been then how come most of the cars have the same paint glitches as before? Refreshed maybe but it seems like the same cars with just better detail because of the more powerfull xbox one
