A 6-Year Hiatus for This? I’m Going Back to FM7

Also instead of driving on really good racetracks i get only the ones to drive, that i really hate like Ohio (sorry folks, it’s a bad racetrack😬)

Ohio is noit VIR or Yas Marina levels bad. It’s akin to Sonoma in that regard. Not a favorite of mine, but sometimes I can deal with it.

Well at least you get to play some of the game to review. Try get through a series without it crashing to save game on their end.
A series take nearly 9 to 10 hours to run, as the crashes causes it to restart the race again .
Problem i see it can save your cars progress but not the progress of series. I see this as broken crap they don’t know how to fix.
So over redoing same stuff over and over in career, just because they cannot fix the game.

FM4 and 5 are definitely the high point in the franchise for sound. In fact, even FM6.

Turn 10 didn’t touch a single piece of sound recording equipment for this game and if they did, they used an actual potato.
I feel like even the most basic recordings would yield better results. Go to a car show, find the list of cars you need to record, find the owner of the car you want to record, and boom you have an accurate recording of a car. If they wanted to go one step further they could go find one with an exhaust, then they can find one that has a cam in it, then they can find one that has an intake on it, then they can find one that has all 3, cam intake exhaust. Step it up with actual forced induction sounds.
Turn 10, if you want help on this, I can do it part time and finish most of the list in a month.

It’s the first game ever I bought pre-order for. And the last one. In Feb this year I bought PS5 + PSVR2 + GT7 and I was disappointed with lack of proper career/progression there. I was hoping the new Forza will come around April/May so I will have a proper racing game to have fun in single player. And we got this  Even the terrible ‘cafe’ beats the builder’s cup. Bugs everywhere: disconnects in multi, crashes when tuning/editing livery, graphical glitches, pixelated reflections. It’s a beta tech-demo, not a finished game.

Ahh, Didn’t realize it was this bad.
What is with this franchise and regressing their audio on a regular basis?
They literally have the better audio files, They dont need new licensing to use the old audio files for the same cars. Why the hell do they keep regressing it?

I also just notice that the door mirrors and windshield wipers no longer move and flex like in FM7.
Like thats a minor enough detail that Im just noticing its not there. And it can look a bit goofy when the wipers are just flopping around like crazy some times. But its definitely a little detail that makes the car feel less static. more animated.

From the ground up…

It’s all in the punctuation and spacing. We’ve been reading it all wrong. Game wasn’t built “New from the ground up”. It was built “New, from groundup bits”.

What’s there? It’s just some images and ui stuff
Or you mean the fm7 stuff? Normal thing even with “from ground up” you’re not redoing every asset

Noone is redoing single button image or whatever it makes no sense.
And it depends who is putting all the stuff together maybe unused but that person put it in.
In FH5 they released unused internals

Same for the backstage-pass stuff it’s not in the game but in the files. Maybe was referenced somewhere so it found its way in release. But means nothing atm, maybe they add later or never.

No, however it does make sense to tidy up your game folder.
If you werent incredibly lazy and haphazard about it.
Im willing to bet FM7 didnt have this in their folders from FM6.
Its another display of their flagrant lack of care to their work.

Oh, and its not like this is a small folder either.

So its taking up useless space on your drive simply because of incompetence.
This is something you would expect from an indie dev. Except these days most indie devs put mainstream studios to absolute shame.
If you had a plumber over and he left your fixed faucet with a bunch of pipe glue and silicone oozing down the side of your sink, You wouldnt call that a ‘job well done’

FM7 is more in your face and FM23 is ran the same sound through an impulse response for a typical cockpit.

  • FM23 might be more realistic with boxy resonances in cockpit and such
  • but like FM7 sounds better either way

So realistic or more in your face?

For everybody to be happy maybe there should be some tuning of each cars sound.

  • you have settings for RT or not etc, why not audio too?
  • external sounds even if doing cockpit view?
  • things like that…

I ran WRC 9 recently and there were plenty of stones and rocks hitting chassis in wheel houses and things to make it immersive on gravel.

  • so if to have similar on circuit tracks would maybe be tires
  • how a car sounds in cockpit tires may be different for different compounds and stuff

I think audio team try to make a realistic sense how it might sound.

  • but settings, settings, settings…
  • FM23 is maybe a bit much of distance to engine, like you sit in a room or something
  • it’s very tight environment
  • but external sound from spectator seat and such were quite realistic I think how sound is reflected on nearby surfaces

Yeah the 376.832 Bytes auctionhouse.zip file…

Actually, it gets worse. Because in that directory that databound is in, it has ‘hires’ that is a duplicate of that entire directory level.

I would say most of those files are unused because they’re all UI elements from FM7. Which dont appear in FM. So its likely the whole folder being used for maybe one or two assets. But again, its been replicated on another level of the directory. So its at least x2
Meaning there might very well just be up to 4GB of space just wasted right here.

T10 could be reserving this space in case of a future addition. This way the game size will not increase too much when they will expand it in the future.

Absolutely not. That folder wont be replaced. I’ll bet money on it.
That, and just on the face of it thats not how that sort of thing works.
“hey steve, be sure to throw in like a 4gb folder of old junk so we can substitute it later with update content to save peoples initial hard drive space.”
That transaction never existed in the world.
I know people like to give insane benefit of the doubt to devs. But I’d be more convinced if you said aliens put it there.

Whats wrong with highres now? You looked at other software today?

PC, Phone uses different sizes for different screens and so on.

Here is older screen from ios

You had to provide 3 images for current range of models at that time
ButtonIcon ButtonIcon@2x ButtonIcon@3x

Game is for 1080p and 4k so yeah u need atleast 2 files

image
The entire FM7 boot sequence is in one of the Zips here.
image

Thats not how that works.
Also, the game is for 1440p, and 720p, and 1260p, and 1380p… etc…
You might be right that it scales between the two, but they’re the same size.
In case you didnt know. Higher resolution images = larger file size.

You know: “Never attribute to malice that which is adequately explained by incompetence.”
Well in this case its attributing benevolence to something thats quite clearly incompetence.

The most likely case here is that they started the file packaging from the original FM7 file batch and just never cleaned it out. OR, they just copypasted the UI elements folder over for using one or two of them, and then someone else came back over and did it again but pasted it in the same directory.
