60 FPS An open discussion

Well, i can say that to me “fairly enough” are 100fps. Neither you, nor me get to define what is objectively speaking “fairly enough”.
And yes, to me racing games fall in the same category as first person shooters as far as the visual benefits of high refresh rate goes. Plus, again, MS is literally marketing high refresh and vrr via their HDMI 2.1.
To me the decision to keep the MP locked at 60 for everyone results from them not having the 120hz mode on the Series X. My guess is that they are not quite there yet with getting it to run in an acceptable way. So they push that “fairness” strawman. I would bet that once they patch it in (or does MS really want to have their main competitor have the 120hz mode while they don’t?) that the MP fps-lock gets lifted.
And no idea why you mention the prices of 4k high hz displays (be that TVs or Monitors). Again: They are both (Sony and MS) literally marketing the 120hz capabilities of their consoles. So now i am here demanding they let me have this what they market, and you come in and tell me that half the framerate is “fairly enough”? Nah man, not for me.

After you experience 120 fps in a game, you can notice the faint blur in the 60 fps mode more clearly. This blur is a little distracting when looking at moving assets.

My monitor and my pc can run the game 260 fps in 1440 but since the game in multiplayer is 60 fps for consoles, pc and cloud, 60 fps for me it’s fair.

This vid on FH5 at 30, 60 and 120fps quite clearly shows the problem is NOT 60 or 120fps. It’s 30 fps thats the big problem.
It’s that the game runs at default in “quality mode” which gives better visuals but only 30fps.

You can see that the gap between 30 and 60fps is far far larger than the gap between 60 and 120fps, roughly 4-6 times larger.

He clearly shows this and explains beautifully that at 30 fps he was having to modify his control inputs, braking earlier, being more tentative on the gas and overall much more cautious in his driving.
Also explaining that at 120mph and 30fps the screen refreshes every 6 feet travelled, at 60fps it refreshes every 3 feet and, at 120 fps it is a mere 1.5 feet between each refresh.
Missing your turn in point by 6 feet can mean the difference between a perfect apex and going off track on the exit.
Missing a braking point by 6 feet and you might miss the turn entirely.
So in essence this 60 fps cap is more to pacify complaints from those who run at default “quality mode” than those choosing to switch to “performance mode”.
There’s also “the law of diminishing returns” to factor in. This shows that as fps increases the performance discrepancy reduces as can be seen by the narrower gap between 60 and 120 fps…
IMO PC players should be able to turn off crossplay and get unlocked fps in multiplayer…
That would then show MS/T10 how many PC players they are likely to alienate with such a low fps cap…
As it stands now? The only reason I’m visiting these forums is the vain hope they see sense and drop this madness.
Either that or get FSR 3 working on console and add it to the game. That way console players CAN get above 60fps with frame generation.
ALL of these solutions would end this issue in a heartbeat!

Didn’t Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare have 60 FPS multiplayer on the Xbox 360?
…16 years & 2 console generations ago?
We still can’t do better than that?

Xbox series X can’t have 120 FPS, just Horizon 5 have 60 or 30 fps, but this is past gen game, you would like 120 FPS in next gen game.
i have old 1366X768 display and Xbox Series X and? To me all normal.
.
when I was playing FH5 at 30fps on Xbox One Fat, my friend had an unfair advantage of 60+ fps on PC. Now it’s easier for me to play. Equalizing fps for all players will give the best fair competition.
.
i don’t not rich like you if you have PC on RXT9999 and AMD Intel Ryzen i 99999…, but i would like the best fair competition.
Do you know about Lomonosov? He is son is fisherman and great scientist in 18 century!
PPG just give potential Lomonosov’s on Xbox series S to show himself in the races!

I want to be faster cause i have skills not cause my pc can compensate my lack of skills and 60 fps for anyone is fair from my point of view.

Sounds fast enough to outrun wisdom.

If you think that someone without skill will have an advantage over someone with skill simply because of 120fps then you got it all wrong mate.

If you need advantages you are not skilled enough

It’s plenty of games with no rules man…

Did you watch the video? I can run the game 260 fps 1440p with my hardware but it’s fine for me if the rule is 60 in multiplayer…

Ray tracing is too heavy for this gen of consoles, i think it’s the main problem… Anyway if i race in multiplayer the game at 260 fps vs people that can max 60 is not funny… That’s just my point of view…

The XSX COULD do over 60fps and easily…
It’s a 12TFlop console, for context my old AMD5700 was quite capable of 85 avg in FH5 (sans raytracing) at high/ultra gfx settings @ 3840 x 1080p.
Years of using trips has shown that doubling the pixel count costs ~25% of your fps. So @ 4k I’d still be getting over 60fps avg and that GPU is just under 10TFlops.
The problem is the XSS being this generations “lowest common denominator” at just 4TFlops.

Couple that with the locked fps at the highest image quality it can maintain. Plus the selling of the XSX as a native 4k 60 console.
That’s the problem…
It’d easily be possible for it to hit 120fps if T10 chose to reduce the default game settings from quality mode to performance mode and added an “Uber performance mode” upscaled from 1080p instead of 1440/1600p.

Doing so would only highlight that native 4k 60fps is now a lie…

I can understand for console, but locking fps on pc goes against the reason for being a PC gamer.

LOL exactly.
And no different resolutions - only 1080p.
And no adjustable input sensitivity settings - everybody’s all full-blast all the time.
And no different input methods - first-party controller only, no wheels or keyboards or third-party controllers.
And no different camera views - only bumper cam for everyone.
And no assists either.
For “fairness” & “a level playing field.”

Seriously After watching the YouTube video you figured that? That’s so sad man…

Well then i suggest you to go play gt7 with a ps5! It’s 120 FPS so you can be faster than Who plays on ps4

It will be fun to play at 200 FPS in Builders Cup and when going to MP to look at slideshow. Looking forward to that.

No one forces you to play Forza Motorsport, PC side is plenty of better sim racing titles and with gamepass Forza servers will be full anyway…
