2014 Formula One Season Discussion

Alrighty folks, its that time of year again. The F1 parade starts its world wide march this weekend with the Australian Grand Prix. Obviously this year has seen the biggest change to F1 since the aero changes from 2009 and the first engine platform change since the V10 to V8 change in 2006.

Pre season testing foot notes are as follows.

-Lotus is racing a tuning fork.
-Caterham is leading the category for ugliest car.
-Most of the Renault powered teams are having serious engine issues. This could mean the end of the Vettel era. (YAAAAAAY!!!)
-Mercedes powered teams are looking strong.
-Ferrari was fast from the first testing sessions but has dropped slightly. Rumors are that Ferrari was sandbagging. (One can only hope! GO KIMI!)
-The cars sound EXCELLENT!!!

I am willing to bet that there will be heavy attrition at Melbourne. With such a huge change happening, it will be hard for all of the teams to have their package fully prepared for the rigors of a real race weekend.

I am pulling for Kimi in the beautiful Ferrari F14T.

Whats your thoughts and predictions.

The V6’s are cool, but they aren’t F1 material in my mind. They don’t scream enough :3

Lotus are confusing me with their nose, I mean, it’s shaped longer on one side than the other? :-

Can someone shed some light on this for me please? :3

I never liked the V8s. I thought they were a little more wimpy than the V10s I grew accustomed to when I started watching the sport in 99. I think the V6 cars sound much better than the V8s ever did. It sounds like the 80s to me. You listen to those engines and compare them to the new engines, they sound very similar.

As far as the lotus deal goes. Its a loophole (shocking! An F1 team exploiting a loophole?). A little bit of poking around points to Lotus using the longer “tusk” to conform to rules and the shorter one just to reduce weight (F1 is funny like that). Its legal and it should provide for some interesting wrecking…er…I mean racing when it comes to Crashdor Maldonado.

So it has no actual aerodynamic bonus (by having one longer than the other)…

I saw that earlier today. I think Fernando is going to have a hard time dealing with the fact that Kimi isn’t prone to just lay down and take it from his teammate.

Daytona Prototypes look prettier than Formula 1 cars…the end of the world is soon upon us.

There is a new Martini paintjob for the painters to replicate.

I have to say I’m not an avid F1 fan, I love Nascar, so I’m not really caught up with everything that has been happening for the 2014 season. But from what I’ve read, it seems as though Hamilton might be set to get his 2nd World Championship and I would honestly love to see that.

I want Hamilton to blow all 8 cylinders on Lap 1 Turn 1. The kid drives me nuts. Yes he is successful but he has an ego that drives me up the wall. The boy already says he wants his own museum built to honor his accomplishments. His 1 championship. He throws a fit if his car isn’t the fastest. He verbally abuses his mechanics. His teammate, Rosberg, is more likely. He is more consistent and more humble. Nico has had to deal with being a mid pack runner for years and has just recently become a contender with a dash of wins and regular points position finishes.

As much as I am pulling for Kimi, I don’t think he has a realistic chance unless the Ferrari was really sandbagging. If it does turn out to be sandbagging. I fear for everyone else on the grid.

  1. You’re lucky you’re on this board. On other boards you could be moderated for openly wishing misfortune on a driver.

  2. You clearly don’t follow F1 and consequently have no idea what you’re talking about. This is immediately evident in the comment about eight cylinders, as they now run just six. Further, you give Lewis too little credit, as his accomplishments far exceed the simple “one championship” statistic. For example, he lost his very first F1 championship by a single point, so coming within one point of a championship win in your debut season is pretty remarkable. He didn’t win 2009 because no driver driving anything other than a Brawn GP car had no chance, though he and Vettel owned the latter half of the season once Brawn lost their enormous advantage. He had a couple more good runs besides, loosing 2012 due to misfortune rather than lack of talent, as he retired from nearly a third of 2012 races due mainly to mechanical failures or others crashing into him, often retiring from the race lead.

I have been watching F1 since 99. I have seen, now, 3 engine formats. I have gotten used to saying 8 cylinders. Its a simple mistake. Get over it.

Wishing for someone to drop all SIX (6, seis, 여섯, шесть, sechs, 六, sei, I think you get it now) cylinders is not the worst thing I could say. I am allowed, as a human being, to not like a driver. I have my reasons, as stated. I am a Kimi fan and there are plenty of people that don’t like him. I accept that and I don’t spew facts at people when they say they don’t want him to win or finish a race. I would never, EVER, wish anything worse than that on a driver. I was never a Wheldon, Earnhardt, or Simonsen fan but I was heartbroken when they were killed. Its never my intention to wish death or injury on any driver. Taking the time to slam me over my choice of driver and a simple mistake really makes you look bad. Just enjoy the season. If Hammy wins, good on him. If he drops all SIX cylinders, too bad, maybe next race. Carry on. Have a nice day.

Well Hammy didnt finish. Vettel didnt finish. My pick of Rosberg, totally correct. Fantastic race! Formula One 2014, its nice to meet you. I think we will have a great relationship.

A bit of an over-reaction there IceMan PJN. It was a simple error. Also, the Hamilton thing? Let’s face it, he didn’t wish for Hamilton to spin off in wild oversteer in a fireball of which he can’t escape. No one would do that.

Anyhow, it was pretty smashing for a first race. I still think though the V6 (I reiterate, V6) sounds quite dull compared to the V8’s and V10’s of the past.

I think the FIA is overestimating the drivers skill and ability, plus there’s are so many buttons on the cars.

So , RedBull ran Dan low on fuel , and he gets disqualified . Does that mean Vettel would be ahead of Dan in the final classifications ?

that seems weird, why would redbull do that? do they favour vettel more or what? plus I think the engines should be v12s, because they could challenge the engineers to make the most efficient v12 engines

Red Bull favor Vettel? Naw!

If I ran F1 it would be turbo 8 liter V12s with more grip than they know what to do with. No more tame, eco friendly F1.

Yes.

If anyone wants to know how quiet they really are compared to one of last years cars, a V8supercar and a Porsche Carrera Cup car.

While they don’t sound anything special, the racing was pretty exciting. It seems like the cars are a lot harder to drive.
