What You Can Expect From the Next Generation of Gaming
by Phil Spencer, Head of Xbox
Feb 24, 2020 @ 6:00am
https://news.xbox.com/en-us/2020/02/24/what-you-can-expect-next-generation-gaming/

Bullet points detailed in the article:

  • "12 TFLOPS of GPU (Graphics Processing Unit) performance – twice that of an Xbox One X and more than eight times the original Xbox One. "
  • Variable Rate Shading (VRS)
  • Hardware-accelerated DirectX Raytracing
  • SSD Storage
  • Quick Resume
  • Dynamic Latency Input (DLI)
  • HDMI 2.1 Innovation, Auto Low Latency Mode (ALLM) and Variable Refresh Rate (VRR)
  • 120 fps Support “allows developers to exceed standard 60 fps output in favor of heightened realism or fast-paced action.”

“Four generations of gaming: Our commitment to compatibility means existing Xbox One games, including backward-compatible Xbox 360 and original Xbox games, look and play better than ever before. Your favorite games, including titles in Xbox Game Pass, benefit from steadier framerates, faster load times and improved resolution and visual fidelity – all with no developer work required. Your Xbox One gaming accessories also come forward with you.”

“We’re making the commitment to use Smart Delivery on all our exclusive Xbox Game Studios titles, including Halo Infinite, ensuring you only have to purchase a title once in order to play the best available version for whichever Xbox console they choose to play on. This technology is available for all developers and publishers, and they can choose to use it for titles that will be release on Xbox One first and come to the Xbox Series X later.”

“Xbox Game Pass will continue to have our first party games, like Halo Infinite, included at their launch.”

“We can’t wait to share more details about the new Xbox with you in the coming months.”

Finally Forza with 120 FPS on consoles.

Looks great! What about “fixing” all Horizons to 60 or 120 FPS on that? Would be awesome because I can’t enjoy 30 FPS games :frowning:

All great and all but it will still be held down by xbox one compatibility for 2 years, and the only thing i want is FM8 footage, i play on PC so a console doesnt bother me

100+ FPS Gears 5 doesn’t sound like a back-compat problem  Maybe Horizon 4 will get 120 FPS patch too. Bright gaming future is coming.

And good thing is you don’t need 120 FPS because of variable refresh rates. It should be stable but 100 FPS should work too. Consoles are so cool these days…

Horizon 4 in 120 FPS? Count me in!

What about Horizon 1, 2 and 3 in 60 FPS? That would be awesome and day one for me!

Looks good, for instance Gears 5 with at least 60, which is not much but better than nothing. But what about our Forzas? What about Forza Horizon in 60 or 120 FPS? In 4K it looks amazing but gameplay is very affected by FPS.

After PS5 presentation I think Xbox will be my first choice.
