Seriously, the driving physics in this game are a joke. Cruisin USA was more realistic.
I know the horizon fanboys are going to say “well its not a sim” but the fact is, its nowhere NEAR realistic. Just because it’s not a simulator doesn’t mean it cant be even vaguely realistic. The handling is nerfed so people who cant drive can still win against the people who can. Thats all it is.
They could easily have used the physics models from Forza 4 or 5 and just add steering assist, but they didn’t.
Absolutely ridiculous. I’m never buying another Horizon again, and after that joke they call Forza 5 I’m seriously doubting whether I’ll ever buy another Turn 10 game again. Forza 3 was awesome, and ever since then it’s almost like theyre making the games worse just to see if people will still buy their garbage. I’ve been playing since Forza 1, but H2 and F5 have basically turned me off of Forza for good.
Good job, T10. Call me when you learn how to make a decent game again.
To be honest, there are a handful of things “The Crew” does better or has that FH doesn’t. The sheer size of the US is amazing even if it is condensed from the real-life thing, it could possibly be the largest open-world environment in a video game to this date. I also like how there are more visual customization parts for the vehicles, even if some of them are gaudy or not that impressive looking - with Forza the vast majority of cars only have the generic “Forza” spoilers with only a few “enthusiast” cars that have actual body kits, although I will give PG/T10 credit for using real-life body parts.
I know it’s not in the spirit of the game and I believe for the first Horizon the devs spoke out against it, but I wouldn’t mind some sort of police system implemented being FH takes place on open roads. Admittedly, the cops in their current state in “The Crew” are badly implemented as they basically dog pile onto the player, but there is something about Horizon taking place on streets and highways where the player is encouraged to vandalize property WITHOUT police presence that is kind of immersion breaking for me. TDU’s cops are an example of a basic police system that works, IMO, three cops chasing you at most without the crazy ramming, helicopters, or fantasy weapons.
I agree “The Crew” has its faults that put it in a spot that makes it inferior to FH2, but I too will continue to play it as I feel there is potential. But to go back to the original topic, for a racer that isn’t restricted to race courses like the main Forza franchise, Gran Turismo, Project Cars, or “hardcore” PC sims like iRacing, I think the Forza Horizon games are as realistic as you can get at the moment.
I was under the impression that even though a large part of the country was said to be “playable” it wasn’t all open and that to get from area to area you had to go through a teleport/loading screen system. I recall NFS the Run saying you could drive across the US and then between every 5 mile stretch was a loading screen. In your first paragraph you talked about this, could you go into a bit more detail please?
God yes…omg, the physics model during the July Beta was actually decent, a hell of lot better that it is now, cars feels so damn nasty, by which i mean, punishing, but not in the “deal with it and get better” way, but in the “haha grip? never heard of it!” kinda way, i mean, holy hell…the way cars “snap” back at you so damn lethally that you can not even make the slightest correction without the car just going “NOPE! hits wall/spins out” is ludicrous…going from FH2 to The Crew made me nearly hurl.
However…the gameplay, stuff to do, events, factions, size of the world with NO loading screens, THE INSTANT FAST TRAVEL ANYWHERE, the amount of customization (visually) you can do, seeing the innerds of the cars engine and ofc exploring random stuff, is all FANTASTIC and I hope they take all of the above from The Crew for FH3, especially the size, those 100’s of challenges you can do, the missions/factions and level of customization especially oh and the instant fast travel. (not the physics or the audio or the story or the P2P model lolllllz)
@ OP and on topic that, I actually really like and enjoy the physics of FH2 I think they are some of the “most comfortable” but challenging under the right conditions physics i’ve ever experienced, they strike, for me, the perfect balance of all assists being off (apart from ABS, why would you have ABS off?) and it being sim-like with that arcady feel thrown in to make it feel “fun”.
That and the engine audio quality in The Crew is terrible, most cars sound synthetic…where as sometimes in FH2 all i do in car meets is select cars and “rev them” for 30 minutes on my 5.1 speaker system, and enjoy the hell out of all the different, beautifully recorded engine/exhaust notes, bliss.
But hey…opinions, for me, I enjoy Forza Physics, i dislike the “speed caps” on top speed, but hey, balance right? Overall, since FM3 i do like the physics, a lot, but that’s not to say they could not be improved, ofc.
A game can look as pretty as it wants and have loads of goodies but if it drives like trash it goes back in its case never to be played again, yes Forza has spoiled me.
Answer: the most effective way to stop/slow down a car in the shortest distance possible is a technique called “threshold braking”, wherein the front wheels are PARTIALLY locked up, but not fully (allowing some steering).
Try to be constructive with your criticism. Personally, I don’t mind the physics; it’s not the most realistic, but it does require you to brake before a curve. I’m using that connection because my first racing game on Xbox was Need For Speed Hot Pursuit. The 2010 one. And you could just drift around the corners.
