The new GR Supra will be on sale as early as August and with time ticking, Playground Games is on the clock to resolve the licensing issues with Toyota. I do not see any other option right now. There will be too much attention on Toyota in the coming months for PGG to not get this deal done.
Exactly. This is what all of you should be doing. It’s not on PGG for not being able to get the licencing deal with Toyota, it’s Toyota themselves.
So we should be spam-bombing Toyota’s social media, and they’ll probably change their minds on the licencing deal with PGG for Forza Horizon 4 and Motorsport 7.
I know Supra and Skyline had a little rivalry going on…why the hell would they only offer a 335 hp car? How is that gonna compete with the nearly 600hp GTR? Gotta say i’m underwhelmed about it #disappointed
At 50-80,000, it’s severely underpowered. It’s got the same power output as the first 370z that came out a decade ago. Supra is supposed to be more power than the Z lineup by Nissan.
Realistically, the out-the-door price will probably be on the high end of that number. It didn’t surprise me at all that it is underpowered for the price point. Most Toyota/Lexus products are that way compared to their direct competitors (with the exception being the top Camry engine at 301hp/267lb-ft to the Accord’s 2.0 4-cylinder 252hp/273lb-ft, although the same engine in the Civic R makes 305hp). For a car in the $80,000 range (performance wise) I would go with a Giulia Q4.
The 370Z, Camry, Accord, Civic, etc. are all built in Japan/Thailand.
The Supra is being built in Austria, in the same factory (and by the same people) as the BMW Z4 where it shares numerous parts with. So the price justifies the car.
I agree that car is more like glorified GT86 that toyota try to get sell numbers up by using supra name. But i would mutch raither to see supra come back with something that compete with skyline. and imo that new supra looks really ugly and it’s more bmw so i would raither get a bmw M3
I guess I just don’t think a glorified GT86 should come anywhere near 80k. It just doesn’t compete with stuff in that price range. You could get a Camaro ZL1.
That little rivalry wasnt much more than that, a little rivalry.
The supra is now a sport car instead of a tourer and the Gt-r a supercar.
When nearly 70k $ price point separate the 2, its quite normal to have a 600 hp nismo while the 'yota keep it at 335 (while the Z4 get 382… wonder why).
And even if they would add it, i wouldnt buy it ingame anyway.
I’ll rather have a Mk2 or 3 Supra or older MR.2. My opinion, off course.
Wasnt toyota’s issue were they didnt want to see their car modified or crashed in game?
Look at any car that’s been around since the 90s. The cars that had similar power have doubled. The cars that had half the power and nowhere near the performance have caught up.
A Supra used to be equal to a gtr and NSX and way faster than a Civic.
Now a Supra is equal to a Civic and destroyed by the GTR and NSX.
It’s as if they stayed still in time while all their competition went up a couple classes…and everything that was back by a couple classes came up to the Supra class.
Your Toyota camrys come close to the power output for crying out loud. Did they used to have even half the power?
I dont know if they were in the same category as the NSX, althought i dont really see another competent rival for those in my head for honda (maybe the S2000 since it began in 1999 or too recent?), we could also add the RX-7 to the mix too.
For the rest, you are right of course, but also keep in mind that those time are up. Carmaker had evolved some of their car, including the now very fast Civic Type-R. All of them had become quite larger too.
NSX and GT-R are now rivals in the supercar market. And i also believe that the 370z was intended to be their “cheaper” sport car, whera the GT-R’s a flagship. I guess now the rivalry will be the 370z and the Supra.
For me at least, HP is not everything too. RWD, 365 ft-lb of torque and weight will also have its part if we compare it to a Civic.
You say the Camry, but really, many, many beige car has rose in power!
I guess will have to see the final price and complete spec for the 6 cyl. Supra. Not that i would buy one anyway.
Now to rectify my point and to stay on topic, it would be nice to add Toyota to the game again, im sure many people would love the GR Supra. However, i would’nt be one of them.
The Skyline GT-R destroys the Supra in nearly every way imaginable.
The Supra’s only claim to fame amongst its peers was the fact the 2JZ-GTE ended up being a good engine to get power out of. Otherwise, it’s pretty mediocre and, by modern standards, horribly obsolete.
To the OP: Toyota is exclusive to Gran Turismo now. Get over it.
There are quite a few new cars coming in the 1:1 scale. The GR Supra is neither more nor less important than any of the other new cars.
I have absolutely Zero interest in this car. Beyond that, there are quite a few other cars I would like to see, but you know what? I put those wishes in the wish list or submit suggestions.
Personally, I would rather PG/T10 spend their time and efforts on more important things that would benefit everyone.
