Hmmm, I have a feeling that the range of Xbox One apps under this idea will be limited to Youtube, IE, etc. The idea being if you have Youtube app on your PC, it will also reside on your One. You probably won’t see many One apps still.
Although I hope I’m wrong, I remember Dell slipping up and announcing the One as capable of running some Windows 8 apps, which Microsoft didn’t deny.
From my understanding of the announcements and previous intentions I’ve read about it, if it can run on one Windows 8 device it might run on the XBone so the answer is “maybe.”
It would seem like a no brainer to use the smartglass app to show maps and or telemetry for the games or even use it as a rear view mirror.
this is going to be more like smart glass in reverse. any winrt app will now run on the one, so any app on a win rt phone tablet surface, pc etc…will run on the one. it’s going to put power point and office on the one and if i remember right the fm4 tuning calc was basically an office spread sheets program. basically any winrt app will run on any microsoft os device. (win 8 or later for pc)
by the way if you have a device with a 9 inch or smaller screen microsoft will give you the latest windows for it for free. so perhaps a better “smart glass” will be possible. maybe us users can make what we want for smartglass type apps but i dont know how much game data can be accessed. dont want aimbots and other cheat apps being used.
I think smartglass apps will always be provided only by the developer of the game. I don’t think we will ever have any third party made apps that can talk directly to the game. That said though… there are other ways to get telemetry data and such from the game without manual entry such as OCR, or optical character recognition. I have a couple of ideas that I would like to get working in my own W8 tuning app but OCR is a lot of complicated work.
I miss replay telemetry and wish to see it return but I’m afraid the reason we don’t have it is to mask fudging with the AI vehicles. They don’t take mechanical damage no matter what, and I fear this is to reduce how much the hardware has to calculate and manage, and if so that it may also take some shortcuts on vehicle performance and physics for the sake of the game running and playing well.
If this happens it better not be windows only, I would need it on my iPod because I cant read any of the smaller text on the screen since i’m using a SDTV with a converter and there’s no adjustable text for the console so i cant even edit my recorded videos until I buy a monitor/HDTV.
do you live in phoenix? i’ll give you my old tv. its a heavy crt flatscreen than can do 720p and 1080i and it is only 4X3 size but you can letterbox it. but it does have two tuners so it can do pip standalone and takes digital and analog signals. i dont think it has an hmdi port tho. it does have component and composit if you can find a way to use those.
