Hello, I am thinking of downloading an FOV mod for the cockpit view as I’m extremely disappointed with the FOV of the cockpit in the vanilla game, even when at max FOV I still have a view that is not pleasing and feels like I’m extremely close to the dashboard. So I was wondering if it was ok to go ahead and download an FOV mod. I just don’t want to get banned.
I’m pretty sure they highlighted a mod like that in their Livestream once, anybody else remember that?
I’m not knowledgeable about this but my gut tells me that it would get you banned.
That’s not why I popped in though. Just wanted to warn you that this game does suffer from the pincushion effect. It’s not the worst out there, but you will notice it if you set the FOV high enough.
I’m playing on a 5120x1440 monitor. I play on cockpit view and it only takes a few clicks higher than default before the effect starts getting really bad. Talking borderline unplayable.
So, you know, might not be worthwhile. Even if you are ok with the effect, it’s nature means that you get diminishing returns as you pull the FOV further out.
For those that don’t know, the pincushion effect is the opposite of the fisheye effect. Every 3D video game suffers from the pincushion effect to some degree. FOV limits are usually there to hide the effect. There is a solution that works on any 1000 series card or later called multi-vector rendering, but it requires devs to support the feature in game. Very few do.
