Why should I buy FM6?

Hi guys, I still haven’t taken the plunge on FM6 after getting burnt so badly by FM5.

I come from a passionate past with racing games starting with GT through to GT4 then switched to FM2 to FM4 which I thouroughly enjoyed especially after the dour and stale GT5.

But with FM5 it all hit a brick wall, GT6 had failed me and FM had turned into a similair stale grind.
Let me make it clear, i’m an offline player in my 4th decade so career mode and AI races are my bread and butter but GT5 was diabolical in this area, stale and mundane compared to FM3 and FM4, with FM you could create your own races select what the AI drove choose to race against stock or custom AI, race higher classes against lower all customised to your tastes and the music and sounds were awesome. The only thing GT gave me was personal time records top 10, imo what should be part of any sort of mixed car buying/comparison simulator.

What FM5 did was awful a terrible backward step in the mold of GT5, if I want full power cars vs matching perf cars at max class value then I’d have bought F1 2014 that is a far superior career doing what FM5s career is giving and more. FM is supposed to be giving us stock road cars where you can pick a stock road car and race against other stock road cars from the real world to see how they stack up, then you have the option for tuning - not tune or nothing. Full class or nothing is part of the staleness of the career, what happened to the option to go stock like how the designers of these fantastic cars made them, if I want to race 959 vs F40 then surely a game for purists they should be stock. Everything about customising races in FM4 has gone from FM5, even creating a mp event with all AI cars dpesn’t let you select which cars the AI drives it’s unbelievable that such changes can happen on what is supposed to be the next level.

So much pain that has probably been spoken about how poor FM5 was by so many I ask should I buy FM6 or am I just wasting my time and is the single player enjoyment of collecting/timing/comparison/racing dead, first by PD now by T10?

You should buy it cause it’s Awesome

If you want to race cars stock you’re probably best off in Horizon 2 honestly. You’ll still face opponents upgraded to your level but you’ll never have to upgrade any of your own cars.

Buy it used at GameStop so if you don’t like it, you can return it within the week. Gamefly would be good as well. As a car fan I say you should buy the game, but if you were as disappointed with FM5 as you say then it is my belief that you will be slightly disappointed with FM6 as well. The only thing I’ve noticed about the two games is the amount of cars and tracks. The physics seem slightly different but not as much as previous games. I still refuse to buy the season pass until I know what every DLC car will be as I was disgusted by the DLC of FM5.

Honestly the single player of forza 6 is still not as good as the single player in 3-4 (in my opinion) but the game as a whole is very good. I have a soft spot in my heart for forza 4 but forza 6 comes very close to it. I would definitely advise you to purchase the game, there a few things that will leave you scratching your head, but the game is much better than forza 5 and will not leave you disappointed.

I can’t speak to FM5. But FM6 is fun despite some issues that I have spoken about in these forums. As long as you are aware of those you should be able to have a good time with it. The Free Play for example allows you to do what is missing from MP in running a full room with AI.

Same as this guy a loved 4 and 5 was a let down six is mega different and alot better still not as GD as 4 but amazing if you join the right racing group like I did

Check out www.gamerzleaguecentral.com if you buy it m8

You should buy it if you like racing games, especially circuit racing, because it’s probably the best circuit racing game on the market. But if all you want is racing of stock cars in offline career mode; then its not for you. For the most part, the entire career mode is based on picking a car in a particular class (Sports Compact, Super Car, Can Am, Indy, etc) and then upgrading it to a particular Performance Index maximum. Some classes you don’t modify because the cars are already equal (Indy car for example) and there is special events in which you don’t modify the cars at all; but that is limited.

The depth of the career mode isn’t as good as FM4 by any means and monthly rivals is pretty much dead which is more than a little disappointing.

But I find the driving physics, graphics, and controller feedback far superior while racing than FM4 and FM5. Also, I personally like breadth of cars as well as tracks much better (more real tracks, less fictional) but both of those are a matter of preference.

I am very similar in the way I play FM and my fatigue with the staleness of the GT series.

FM is getting very close to that level of staleness. My SP now is 90% hotlapping in Rivals now, I rarely feel motivated to play career or Free Play because I can’t race the way I would like to. Also rivals isn’t getting monthly updates anymore. And I have to maintain offline notes about the cars for things like displacement, cylinders, divisions. Sometimes I get home after work and can’t be bothered to go through all the crap I need to deal with to play Forza the way I want to play.

I still enjoy driving the cars. The engine sounds aren’t as alive as they used to be as well, unfortunately, that alone used to make me want to hotlap and just play with the engine and echoes bouncing back at me off the walls.

When I’m driving the right car on the right track it can feel worth it, but it’s not the same as it was. I miss the way I used to setup my races in FM4 and the way I would sort through my garage to find the right car for my current mood.

I have played and completed all Forza games (except Forza Motorsport 1), and I would like to say FM6 is the best. I also focus more on the offline modes.

  1. The game looks stunning
  2. The cars handle well and feel like they have real weight to them
  3. So many more tracks than FM5 (and plenty of cars as always)
  4. Better AI than FH2

In FM6 I just finished 82 laps at Sebring in the wet, which took about 3 hours. I always disable rewind, and it was intense, a thrilling way to spend the afternoon. I will confess I took a 10 minute break after 90 minutes - it makes me appreciate how tough motorsport really is for the drivers in real life.

I have one thing against FM6, and it will only concern people who like getting all the achievements. There are 3 achievements that you can only get by luck:

  • Finish first in a 24 car race using the Manual Transmission Dare Mod
  • Finish first in a 24 car race using the Suggested Line Off, Cockpit Camera only Dare Mod
  • Finish first in a 24 car race using the Back of the Pack Dare Mod

You could spend 100 million on mods and still not get the specific mods you need for those achievements. This could well be the first Forza game I never 100%. If they have achievements tied to RNG mods in the next Forza game, I will not be buying it.

Bro. I am like you. I’m almost 40, married with 3 young kids. I too started with Gran Turismo (freakin loves that game, put 100’s of hours into it). Played all the Gran Turismo’s up until I got the original XBOX then dabbled in Forza. It wasn’t until FM4 that I REALLY got into forza. Not saying I didn’t like FM2 or FM3, I just didn’t have the time to play working two jobs.

When Forza 4 came out, I had the time. It was honestly forzatography and the Forzaconomy that really pulled me into FM4. I didn’t like racing online because of all the cheating and glitches and just preferred offline racing against the computer. I loved FM4’s career mode. Especially the world view where you could pick any car, upgrade and tune to your liking, and you’d go to that screen and be able to see which races your car was eligible for. It made you feel like “any given Sunday.”

With that said, FM6’s career is more linear and not as free as FM4’s career mode is. There is the volume view and the other view (can’t remember the name off hand). In the volume view, there are I think 6 races of each class times 3 sub volumes for a total of about 100 races per volume (5 volumes) for a grand total of around 500 races; not including the endurance races and the special races. There’s probably about 200 of those.

All in all, the fun of racing on “any given Sunday” is there, but to a lesser extent dur to the volumes structure. The PI index pretty much governs the FM6 career mode in a more linear and stricter way than FM4 did.

All in all, I say go get the game. You will definitely enjoy it!

I think i get what your asking here and yes you should buy it.

42 years old and just like others i started with the original GT and played them all the way up till the original forza and never looked back.

forza 5 was the first time i did not pre-order and pick up the game at launch due to the fact i was working 55 hours a week and much of that was working out of town and state sometimes and staying in hotels.
Recently in mid december i was laid off and picked up both forza 6 and horizon 2 and i can tell you fm6 is much improved over fm5 and competes heavily with fm4 as the best in the series.

Ans just like you i dont play online. not dealing with the wreckers among other things.
Most of what i do is freeplay mode where i can pick the track, the number of opponents, the number of laps, what assists to use etc…
You dont have full control who you are up against the game bases the opponents around the vehicle you are using and the difficulty you are using but you can select a few things fwd, rwd, can-am etc…

I think it does have the qualitys you are looking for and if you liked fm4 you will enjoy this game

Based on your play style you will probably like it at first and then become very frustrated with it later.

The game is still restrictive in game play and you have to upgrade cars in career mode unless you run easy AI.

You’ll likely be scratching your head after a bit wondering how they managed to hit a home run in car selection and car physics, but failed miserably at providing the freedom you desire. FM4 is still the gold standard in friendliness to almost all play styles.

Couldn’t agree more. The meat is there, it’s cooked perfectly, but they served it on a napkin and forgot to give you a sharp knife to get into it properly.

That pretty much some it all up perfectly…and now I’m hungry! Lol

Agreed. Car/track content and physics are great, but many of the off-track features have been cut back or toned down.

To follow on from the rampant fanboys heres my opinion.

I am 52. Over FM 2 3 4 5 and 6 Ihave racked up something around 250,000 racing miles. The developers business model / game philosophy that brought FM 1 through 4 was ditched for 5. FM 6 is avisual feast but offers gameplay like 5, just with more tracks. Although all Japanese circuits are absent. (I’m betting FH3 will be set in japan).

The current ‘always start 14th in the demolition derby’ style career mode is useful solely as a tool for learning the filthy driving standards of the public multiplayer lobbies. Personally I cannot recommend this game. However I am sure the fanboys will persuade you. So I say buy the basic game and dont waste money on VIP or dlc unless you are desperate.

The Forza franchise is a pale imitation of a one time world beater.

I haven’t played FM1-4 and any GT before, so I cannot tell you the differences between these games and FM5-6.

In FM6, career mode is divided into different divisions. In each division, you pick a car to race in a few tracks. All race is one-off, you have to finish in top 3 to proceed. All cars are upgraded to certain amount of performance index (PI) automatically.
Besides career mode, there are Free Play. In free play, you are able to customize number of laps, divison, PI class of opponents. All cars in free play are stock except yours. If you want to race stock cars, free play may suit your need.

By the way, I suggest you should try Project Cars. It has a content-rich career mode, and a dynamic weather and time system while in FM6 weather and time are preset.

If you are an offline player you are probably better off with Pcars. It may not have as many cars or customization, but the track selection is much better among a ton of other things. As a long time Forza player I cannot recommend this game tbh, some fanboys will tell you otherwise though.

I couldn’t recommend Project Cars. Not because it’s a bad game, but because it’s aimed very heavily towards competitve racing series like GT, Formula and LMP racing. It sounds like the OP is more interested in racing stock road cars against each other, for which Forza 6 has much more.
