I posted some video on reddit, and one comment noticed I race at 72 fps in multiplayer.
I am also experiencing lagging and rubber banding across the track - not other cars, but me myself. Could these two things be somehow related?
Here is the video showing I am racing at 72fps Reddit - Dive into anything
Here is next race that I recorded fully - its not as bad this time, mostly I lag at last corner in this race, but its hard to notice when watching video. https://youtu.be/NuM4p23ib3A
I dont have shadow play set up, so I dont have video of worst cases… But basically I suddenly lag metar ahead or behind or left or right, well you got the idea.
The maximum FPS you can have in MP is 100. You have to have 100 HZ or 200 HZ, else you won’t get 100 FPS. If you have 72 that means your refreshrate is 144 HZ. Just set it to 100 HZ and you have 100 FPS.
The FPS cap for “fairness” is pointless imo. Any races I’ve done online have massive variances in driver skill and ability to race cleanly, which have way more affect on races than framerate would.
Yeah that argument is nonsense. You aren’t faster because you have more FPS. It’s not like the game has the clipping tyres glitch like GTA Online does. Where you are faster the more FPS you got.
30 vs 60 FPS is a huge difference but 60-100 not so much, if it’s about input lag. And all above 100 you barely notice a difference.
They could just turn off the fidelity 30 FPS mode for MP. I am not sure if you can play with 30 FPS against others in MP or not. I don’t have a console.
It’s because they can’t be bothered to fix their old rubbish forzatech engine. It’s been known for a while that this engine doesn’t match the physics to the fps when the fps is high resulting in pc drivers running high fps being able to get much faster times compaired to low fps. I’ve heard it’s apparently because the physics don’t poll at the same rate as the frame rate when it’s high which can let you do stuff like going over bumps without unsettling the car and launching faster. It probably lets you but down power easier.
Bear the above in mind and then watch this one by HokiHoshi
Notice how he is around half a second faster going from 60 to 120 fps. Half a second is a lot, but from 30 to 120fps he’s a full 2 seconds slower around a sub 1 min lap. That might be partially down to input issues at 30fps, but given the first video I’m inclined to doubt that.
Instead of doing the right thing by actually overhauling the engine and removing this limitation, they’ve decided to cheap out and just force everyone playing multiplayer above 60hz to have to use an fps cap, because they’d rather make the game worse for a whole group of their customers than put in actual effort to fix the underlying problem. It’s nothing to do with fairness and everything to do with laziness.
