Why do we still have 180 degree wheel turning?

Yes K, I’m aware that this is to do with wheel animation. Strikes me that people want different things and the animation to mirror different degrees of rotation so I see this being as much about periferal support. If the animated lock to lock rotation was increased by another 90 or 180 degrees it wouldn’t entirely solve the problem, only move it.

Of course USB devices are automatically detected but currently wheel users are only fed the same data as controller users. Similarly, if T10 were to adopt say soft locking this wouldn’t really work on controller. There needs to be more separation between devices within the game engine so that all devices get the benefit of optimal support.

However you look at it, the animation debate is inexorably linked to how the game supports your preferred device.

You should never assume. Just because your device is detected on PC/Console doesnt mean the game will even acknowledge it exists. Support must be defined explicitly.

I personally don’t rate the Codemasters F1 series. I bought F1 2015 and it was possibly the worst title I’ve ever played. I’ll buy F1 2017 as it looks very promising. However Turn 10 could learn a lot about cockpit animations from the Codemaster guys as they have the animations nailed down to a tee for both controller and wheel.

You should go back and play F1 2012 or 2013 to really give them a chance. Those games are very good on 360. I don’t have an Xbox one F1 series game because 2015 was slammed so hard. F1 2016 is supposed to be a big improvement.

I spent some time in FM4 yesterday. Granted my wheel is the Thrustmaster Ferrari wheel with like 200 something degrees of rotation but to my eye, the wheel movement and the hands seemed to match up. Probably the easiest thing to do would be to set wheel for the minimum amount of rotation, 270 degrees in most cases I believe? Then you will be closest to what’s in screen and the only issue will be in extreme motion slow hairpins. I can see them expanding to 270 but cant see them making drastic changes in the near future. I know that’s not what some of you guys want to hear but that’s where they are at and what to expect.

2011, 2012 and 2013 were great F1 games from Codie’s. 2015 was so bad, especially considering they had 2 YEARS to move over to the new console! It made me lose trust in the franchise which is why I skipped 2016 which unfortunately was leaps and bounds ahead of 2015.

Forza need to get a move on with innovation in the cockpit animations imo.

They do indeed. Those are fantastic. I wish the wheel would also be animated like a real wheel even if you’re using a controller. But they haven’t done that for rather obvious reasons.

^^ yeah, that pretty much frames it. Unfortunately, it appears this is just not a priority for T10 at the moment. I swear if the AC developers polish up their visuals and audio design a bit, I’m jumping ship!

It looks like CARS 2 already has Forza beat in several ways, the most apparent one being the driving model itself naturally. If only the car sound samples can be higher quality.

If this is your biggest problem with Forza over Project Cars 2, then it’s a little petty. I’m not saying PC2 will be a bad game, only it needs to improve A LOT from its first version. FM7 for me is the safer bet. It PC2 can straighten itself out then maybe I will eventually get both. Not sure if there will be an AC2 but I find AC1 lacking in content and the fact that key tracks are DLC is very annoying (and FM6 got heat for having VIR as the only DLC track). I took a look at the iRacing subscriptions to see what you get and was a little shocked. In my opinion if you are paying a subscription you should have access to all the content. You barely get anything unlocked and each car and track is a high additional cost. So for the money even if there are minor things for some users, FM7 will likely hit more points for me than any of the others.

Let’s clear the air, shall we?

I do NOT have any problems with “Forza over CARS 2”, let alone ‘the biggest problem’, as you pointed out. Let’s not put words in each other’s mouths.

I did mention that other developers are doing certain things with their driving model that tends to overshadow Forza’s driving model. I think the developers need to pay a little more attention to competition because back in the X360 days, and up until the FM5 days, Forza was the most realistic driving game you could get on a console. That may not be the case anymore, but by introducing at least proper cockpit wheel behavior and animations, they can up their game a little, if not make the driving model as hardcore and unforgiving as the other top-tier sims.

It’s a start at least. They’ve no reason not to update this - it would not affect the regular consumer one bit. If there’s an option to use a wheel-free dash cam, there can certainly be an option to use full wheel animation depending on the car you’re driving, or just a simplistic version of it, like we have now.

Furthermore, a hardcore driving model could be introduced as well to really take advantage of proper wheel animation. There’s an option, between normal and sim steering, yes? What have they got to lose by introducing an additional pure-sim driving model that’s coupled with proper wheel animations?

**Well, they could do it in the next game ONLY if it’s a highly requested feature. Heck, they might even update it after release, just like they added shifting animations to FM3.

The bottom line is if we gather our voices and stir up a storm about it, we may very well see it in the game. And those among you who feel this is not an important feature, what have you got to lose, eh? If anything, you’ll enjoy the game even more.

I will use dash cam so i’m not going to enjoy this useless feature even more…

Hardcore driving model that gives advantages of “proper wheels animations”?
What’s the real advantage in having “proper Wheel animations”?
Seriously who cares about hands on Wheel when driving?

I do and I would say the majority of the people in this thread do.

The cuts right to the meat of it right there, “the majority of the people in this thread.” Until T10 sees that it’s a good proportion of their overall player base that wants this particular change they won’t be motivated to do anything about it, and honestly, I’d rather they work on the environment and more tracks, and put that development time towards those things. It shouldn’t be insanely difficult (speaking as a non-programmer or animator) to go to 270 degrees. That way everyone with high end wheels can set their DOR to 270, the game will display the animated hands in the same place as their hands are on their wheels and this argument can be put to bed. Sure they won’t have 900 degrees to appease those who want that but the animations will align.

Agree!
Anyway at the moment in FM6 the wheel in the game is displaying the hands in the same place we have on our wheels, it just won’t pass the 180 degrees limit.

It seems like some people here that are happy with how things stand are like “the game is catering for me, I don’t care about anything you people are wanting because the game is what I want” yet complain when people ask for something they want to be in game to make the game more enjoyable for them or say it is a useless idea.

Agreed.

I think you’ll find that applies to just about everything in life

Damn. I thought life was just roses and rainbows
