I am on wheel, and I usually change “manual” or “manual with clutch” depending on what car I am driving. But I now accidentally discovered it doesnt matter - you can still switch gears without using clutch.
It was like that when the game come out for some of the cars - I think if it was sequential or paddle shifter car, you could not use clutch even if you had “manual with clutch” in the settings.
But why am I not required to use clutch with Aston Martin DBR1?
Guys, please tell me its a accessibility setting I have missed, and its not that they have rendered clutch useless?
Also I want to skip gears, when I skip, I hear someone in my car reving up the engine, its not me, so who is it???
thats… I mean, I guess its fine, but its disappointing. Was it always like that?
I rather it allowed to shorten shift time without not requiring clutch…
I guess this makes the whole upgrade thing even weirder for me. I think either I should get car like Aston Martin DBR1 as its max like it was at its prime or below that with optional upgrades of that time.
But I also see how it then ruins the engine conversion… But no, I think its strange the way it is now - like with the Cadillac V-Series.R — this is a car perfected by professionals in WEC to be the absolute best it can be. It feels strange that I, a random Forza player, can - no NEED TO for multiplayer - slap on upgrades and somehow “improve” it. Shouldn’t it arrive at its best by default?
I get that tuning and upgrading is a huge part of Forza’s identity — but in this new Motorsport, it feels like too big a part. I’d rather they focused more on car authenticity and less on letting every car become a Frankenstein…
If you watch on the damage screen on the telemetry you will see transmission damage increase with each gear change if you’re running manual w/clutch and shifting without the clutch.
They changed it on the controller. I assume it would also affect your setup. Manual with clutch has to be done in a different way when you do not have a race gearbox. You used to be able to hit clutch and gear up or down at the same time on the controller, they called it power shifting. You can no longer do this. Is it wrong and unrealistic? I guess so but so is driving with a thumb stick looking at the outside of a car. How can you simulate a real clutch on a controller anyway? So to me it is kind of a silly change. It was always like that. With a race gearbox you can. It makes no sense but what does anymore? Yes there is this weird thing that with manual with clutch enabled on a race gearbox you do not have to even press the clutch button. No, there is no penalty for doing that. You can use the clutch if you want though. Unless you turn on damage you’re fine. Who turns on damage in a non damage race? Or Rivals? Not many. Doesn’t it force damage off in MP whether you have it on or not now? I’m not even sure. If you can you’re gonna get destroyed by a rammer probably. I wouldn’t risk it, no way. I’ve never turned it on. Not since Forza 6 when it was on for Endurance racing and ghost league too I think. Was it only in Pinnacle and Elite? Too long ago I can’t remember. Game is a mess Fujimo or not.
Tbh u can still power shift, they just changed min shift time for m/c, so on stock /street transmission u need to press clutch for ~250ms, while in sport ~200ms, some semi race cars can have stock sport transmission with shorter shift time like McLaren F1 gt ~ 90 Ms
Race transmission on other side uses clutch for u… And tbh that’s the best decision they could make for close racing in Sim-cade game, no more stock/street/sport transmission meta in open racing, and abusing pi with weird gearing. U just slap race transmission and focus on racing.
So essentially they’ve just made power shifting easier? Instead of needing to press 2 buttons you can now just press 1 and everybody wins from this. Even the ones who aren’t used to using a manual+clutch?
What would they need to do to fix this? Revamp the way transmission works and only allow H-shifter or H-shifter + clutch? Why did they even tried to claim they’ve removed the power shifting exploit? Someone HAS to had told Chris Esaki to say this and it must’ve been someone very incompetent.
Old cars with crappy clutches still have the PI advantage though. They can keep those, save the PI and have equally fast shifts.
I think T10 just traded one PI imbalance (weird gearboxes saving PI, rev banger builds, etc) with another.
The Chaparral pays 0 PI to upgrade from a chaotic 4-speed with -0.2 seconds shift time penalty to the 6-speed race transmission while modern supercars with high-tech gearboxes pay up to 8-9 PI.
When it should be the other way round.
Strangely enough, you’re right. But in testing to verify, what I found is that even though now it doesn’t damage the transmission (pretty sure it used to) it does cause engine damage.
It doesn’t cause engine damage either. I drive MC without actually using the clutch all the time. As long as your timing on gear changes is on point then it won’t damage your engine. When I damage the engine is when I go from MP (with no damage) to career and forget I can’t engine brake and downshift too swiftly.
