Why are Forza Motorsport and Forza Horizon 5 so vastly different?

,

I’ve been playing Forza Motorsport quite a lot these past few weeks. The more I play it, the more I notice just how many differences there are between the new Motorsport and Horizon 5. From Forzavista to free cam movement in different sections of the menu. The map moving along with your thumbstick as you look around. The performance of the games. And much, much more.

But how come? It’s like playing 2 games from different game developers. Isn’t anything shared between the devs of Motorsport and Horizon? I know that FM is ‘built from the ground up’, but surely they could just take stuff from Horizon, right? Or is the code/engine so different?

You already answered your own question. Both games share the same car models and some of the physics and that’s pretty much it.
They are targeted towards different audiences though. FH5 is developed primarily by PG and meant for Fortnite kids and wall riders, FM is exclusively developed by Turn10 and made for people that’re bit more into real racing. Thank god they are NOT similar.

Forza horizon is a fun and arcade racing game, but Forza motorsport is a sim-cade and serious racing game… but you need to choose that if you want fun or you want simulation…

The only thing that is truly new in FM 2023 are the race tracks that have been 3D scanned again. And the new handling and sound files. The core code of the game is still the same like in FM7, the car models are still mostly the same.

“Built from the ground up” was nothing but a marketing lie, to justify the 6 years of devolopment time. I think they only needed 2 years for that game. Because the game isn’t polished at all, it’s more like a Beta version of a game, not even close to gold status.

That’s exactly what I mean. FH5 feels finished, even more so with all the updates and changes. FM8 feels so hollow and unfinished. Why? Imo both franchises should be largely the same except for the open world in Horizon and race tracks in Motorsport. There are so many features not present in Motorsport. I’m wondering how both games are developed and especially why Horizon does a much better job. Motorsport is new and should imo have everything Horizon has and then some but it went completely the other way.

It’s simple Playground Games has lots of competent devolopers and Turn 10 doesn’t. I read somewhere that Turn 10 also searched for many devolopers, because i think a lot of ppl did quit their job there. For whatever reason. That is part of the reason the teaser race tracks from the videos looked much better than in the current “finished” game. I think the devs that aren’t there anymore wanted to do something better, but the higher ups just wanted to release a cash grab game at some point.

If you use a search engine and check the internet, you will find out that they really looked for a lot of new coders, graphic artists and such. And this while they were in the middle of the devolopment. So something must have happened, what exactly isn’t clear.

They are still looking for more ppl:

While devolopment they looked for a lot of new coders, artists etc. there were many changes in the team it seems.

Of course all of this is just speculation, but hey there must be a reason FM2023 is so bad compared to FH3, 4 and 5.

That’s an absolute lie. The graphics engine, sounds and models are refined old ones. The physics have changed.

That’s pretty much it. But I could get banned for posting insider information, I suspect.

Just check that topic:

What I didn’t read there.
The people who make the engines and the rest of the games are usually two different teams.
It’s like they tried to make a new engine, but then just took the old one and decided to tweak it.
Just a guess. But it’s very much like that.
A friend of mine is a producer in the gamedev. Years ago, I was a designer, but then went into marketing. We discussed this game a lot, and came to the conclusion that the whole game is FM8, and it’s unclear what there was to do in it for over two years.
The sad thing about it is the tonnes of lies from the developers.
Most likely they were making a new engine, it didn’t work out. They could have taken a reworked FH engine that looks better and is much more performant. But they took what they know how to work with.

I remember from an interview or something, that they tried something and it didn’t work out. All the cars were “wobbling” or something on the race tracks, like going up and down nonstop or something like the race track wasn’t horizontal well flat, it was like there were waves in it or something. I don’t know the right word for it, english is obviously not my native language. Then they had to create everything from scratch again.

Yeah they said the old tracks looked flat but they really weren’t. I know some guys ported tracks to Assetto Corsa and it was undrivable with their physics system. Looked good but the car was bouncing. What I would like to see is somebody doing a port of current Forza track to AC to check how they perform.

“Bouncing” was the word thank you. It somehow was lost in my mind.

From their official website: Careers | Turn 10

They sure are looking for a lot of managers, team leads, and department directors…

Would you expect Counter Strike to be the same as Call of Duty since they are both FPS games? They are meant to offer very different experiences.

Both use different engines they are completly different devs so NO.

There is a significant part of the playerbase between Horizon and Motorsport. Everybody who doesn’t see it (all the problems) belongs in treatment is what my personal opinion YELLS.

Both games use the same car models!

The thing is that some things are the same like the cars, upgrades, handling (if you choose normal steering in FM). I would expect that the menu’s and ability to move the camera’s would be the same in both games as well. And the same Forzavista features. But there are some huge differences between FM and FH5 now. The vibyl editor has been changed too and made harder instead of more convenient. I don’t understand why. They’re both called Forza, just Horizon is the spin-off.

FM7 and FM2023 are the same. But it has nothing to do with FH not at all.

Codewise they are 180 degree from each other.

The only thing both games share, are the carmodels. Nothing else.

??? If you’re comparing them by a “performance” point of view, I can see the point, but they’re two different games. It makes more sense comparing Tomb Raider to eFootball.

What else these games should be compared to? Apples, Oranges or Pineapples?

In this exact moment i am watching the good old “Dawn of the Dead” 2004 in highest blu-ray quality the movie is 70+ gb large.
