Thrust master or madcatz? I saw Logitechs releasing one too o:??
Also do you need to buy a stand with these kinda things or can you play with them on your lap? Sry never owned one lulz.
I will stay out of which one to buy.Purely subjective.Unless you own them all its hard to make a fair accurate choice.
I will say playing on your lap will be next to impossible. You need something to clamp it down to for sure. The force feed back will make it very hard to play on your lap,not to mention very uncomfortable…I bought a playseat yrs ago for 100 bucks.Best thing I bought.
I have an Obutto R3velution + ThrustMaster TX wheel Ferrari 458 Italia Edition + T3PA + TH8A + GT 28 Leather Wheel. Lovin’ it.
In the past I had a G27 + WheelStand to play from my sofa and that kinda sucked. It’s really annoying if your seat is not mechanically connected to your “pedal-stand” because the pedals will slide all over the place for sure.
If you’re on a budget go with Playseat + decent wheel.
Also figure out how you want to shift. If you love manual shifting and pedals the T3PA + TH8A are superb but quite costly as well. Maybe waiting for the Logitech G920 might be interesting, of for that seperate ThrustMaster base that will be available soon. Problem with both those is that FM6 will release sooner so if you don’t mind playing for a while with the controller…
And no, laps are defo or not for racing wheels.
The G920 wheel is out and it’s seriously awesome with my Gameracer Elite set-up. I’ve also got the Driving force shifter and I’m using it all works brilliantly with Forza 6 at the moment. I’ve setup a twitch feed and after tonight (I’m in the UK) there will be recordings of my use with it if you’re interested.
Live tonight from 8pm BST
I used to clamp the wheels to old textbooks (one for each clamp) to create about a 2.5 foot surface and use them in my lap. Worked fairly well and was pretty stable but a mount would be better.
I don’t know what wheel to buy yet for Xbone, I’m leaning towards waiting for the Logitech. They’ve always held up for me (the only brand I’ve had that I’ve never had break) and it looks like the TX has a spotty rep for working at all or only working for a short time for a lot of users so I’ve stayed away from buying one. I’d never seen or heard any glowing reviews of the Madcatz. At least people seem to like the TX when it works.
I think I might wait for the Logitech. Gives me time to save up for a stand thingy too lul. I don’t mind controller but I always wanted to get a wheel setup just never got one D:
All 3 have good reputations as wheel makers. Don’t play with one on your lap. It does not seem that heavy, but after an hour or two it will make your legs hurt with the force feedback off, and faster with feedback on. get somethng to clamp it to such as a Playseat as others have mentioned, or even build one yourself.
They’re all good wheels. Biggest differences are the Thrustmaster uses belts for force feedback and are smoother. The Madcatz and new Logitech wheels use gear driven and are a little louder at times and can have gritty movements from time to time. Logitech has a reputation for being a very solid wheel whereas the Thrustmaster has had issues in the past and still has a few issues. The other plus for the Thrustmaster is you can buy different rims and pedal sets as well as a shifter. Logitech offers a shifter as well. I’d probably recommend the Thrustmaster. It’s an awesome wheel and Thrustmaster will replace defective wheels, but it just takes a while. I had no problem replacing my wheel, it just took about 2 and a half weeks.
As for using your lap, not gonna happen. All of these wheels either need to be clamped to a desk/tabletop or use a stand/seat with it.
