Wheels - Default FFB settings need to be improved

The standard FFB settings destroy the feeling of what the car is doing on the road. The default settings should be improved significantly so that the wheeluser can have fun with the game without spending hours in the FFB settings.

edit:

its not that perfect but a good point to start

I agree! It gives a bad first impression. The damping should be much, much lower by default.

FFB needs a serieus overhaul indeed.

All adjustments appear to be carryover from FM7, but the values from FM7 do not carryover well at all. Still the same junk 6 years later.

I turned wheel damping and center spring and vibration all the way to 0 and it feels a lot better.

Please update the default wheel settings. When i first started playing this game with a wheel i was very dissappinted as the driving felt terrible. I was worried it was the driving dynamics in the game that were bad. It took me a few hours to tweak the settings so that it felt good. Now that i have it tweaked I think it feels great but it took a long time. A better default setting may have decreased the time for me to tweak it from 3 hours to 1 hour for example.

No ffb in the center is the most annoying thing. My settings for the crappy understeer feeling are pretty good now but around the center there is nothing

I agree with all of this. FFB needs a complete overhaul. I am also suffering from a major issue with my Moza R9. Turning right is fine normally, try to turn left and the FFB kicks in and goes full lock to the left. Limited to only this game, tested in other games including FM7 and this doesn’t happen. Latest Moza Pit House, latest Moza firmware. If I invert the FFB, the problem moves to turning right instead of left. I posted another issue report with more info in case others have the same issue - here

Game is unplayable for me at the moment on my sim rig :frowning:

Another thing, for those that have not upgraded consoles yet and have to resort to play using cloud gaming, why isn’t wheel compatible for Xbox one users. If it’s issuable for pc, Xbox series X and S why can’t wheel compatibility be available for Xbox one. Just doesn’t seem to make sense. Playing this game on controller is not good I accept that on Xbox one the visuals won’t be that great but at least let me play the game the way I’d like to play it…with a wheel. Please and thank you

Having a very similar issue too on my TX, don’t know how many times I’ve had to change my settings due to inconsistency within the FFB, very noticeable when trying to drift

I’d wager to say that most Forza players are not hardcore sim racers and don’t want to spend ages fiddling with sliders figuring out how to get usable FFB.

So why does a simcade like FM have dozens of confusingly named controls and provide awful default FFB, while something that’s designed for more hardcore enthusiasts like ACC or AMS2 has very few controls yet the default FFB is far more convincing and usable?

Lowering pneumatic trail and dynamic dampers to a point where they’re barely noticeable is not the way to go with wheel settings. Although I didn’t have the time to really dial in my settings, just raising the pneumatic and setting dynamic dampening to 50, while cranking the center spring to 200 netted me a much more communicative expierence.

I didn’t have the time to truly get it setup, but once I get done with work, I intend to continue getting a better feel out of the game. Right now, I have a good understanding of what the tires are doing, even in the wet.

CenterSpring @200 is just a static force to center the steeringwheel.

this tip is from the devs:

I wasn’t getting that at all. Eventually I did lower the center spring a bit, but it didn’t cancel any FFB on my end. Maybe I have something else overriding it?

Anyways, I was able to tweak my settings a little. I’ll update with my actual numbers in a bit.

This isn’t an issue so much with Forza specifically, as it is an inherent issue with cloud gaming in general. I don’t know if it’s something that can be fixed, but AFAIK, all game streaming services have this same problem. Anecdotally, a few months ago, I tried using my Fanatec wheel and pedals attached to my PC to play WRC Generations via Amazon Luna. Same issue: with a controller it works fine, but wheel and pedals are unrecognized.

yes there is a deadzone ffb

I’ve been using this guide on advanced wheel settings

The settings are explained better and more in-depth than in the games wheel setting menu. I thought I had a good feel and setup for the g920 on my Xbox but I’d been really struggling with getting feedback through the wheel for when the car starts to understeer. I spent ages changing each of the sliders to minimum then driving and then maximum and driving again to see what changes it made to the feel of my wheel. Some of the settings made massive changes in ffb and how the car drove when changed. Some made the steering ridiculously sensitive and slightest rotation of the wheel would unsettle the car.

One of the most important things I noticed was changing the first force feedback slider seems to increase or decrease all the settings. If I wanted stronger feedback force for example and i raised the first slider I would then lose the feel of understeer and the ffb wouldn’t decrease as the tyres lost traction.

After best part of 2 hours I managed to get the feeling I wanted. Then I drove a different car and it felt completely different :person_facepalming:t3: one thing I couldn’t figure out was when I managed to get the wheel to decrease ffb when I started to understeer, the car/wheel had no change in ffb strength if I was going uphill but had a sizeable decrease in strength if I was on flat or downhill
