I just wanted to get peoples opinion on whether i should keep my new steering wheel or if i should get rid of it?
I am really having a tough time deciding if it works with the game or not… I seem to be fighting with the wheel to make turns and just the mechanics and the feel of it just does not seem right?
Is it me?
I bought the wheel not to long ago from best buy and i can still return it if i like. But i really want to give this a try!
Steering wheels are an investment, they shouldnt be bought for any particular game but for the genre. Horizon 3 is an arcade game, wheels arent generally required but can be used. I dont think forza games are particularly good with the wheel but are playable with them. If you dont see yourself buying more racing games return it, but if you do want a more immersive experience in a racing game wheels are the way to go. Theres a few good games to choose from at this point but theyre more on the simulation side of the spectrum.
I just picked the g920 up yesterday. I say get as good as you can with it. What is our choice? Can you do this with the hand held? I can’t. I was a lot faster with the non ff tm…but it lacked something, This at least has IT! Not sure yet what IT is yet, but I’m going to learn to race with it.
OK, selfishness now on my part, and my biggest issue I have with the g920 to this point. Were you able to get the xbox to recognize the wheel as a controller? That could be the deal breaker for me. The game can make adjustments, but the box says there is no controller. So, at times it will not turn on from the wheel. I want it to tell me it is plugged in right next to the headset, and assigned.
Hope this helps. I say go with it. Apparently the $'s are not the issue. Play the track, race clean, make it fun! Help me if you can. Thanks.
I have to say I am not enjoying FH3 with a wheel as much as I enjoyed FH2 with my wheel.
I have a Thrustmaster TMX and I use 360 degrees of rotation when playing FH2 and the cars feel very responsive but in FH3 with the same rotation it feels very sluggish like there is a dead zone in the centre of the wheel.
The understeer that the cars seem to suffer from in FH3 (plenty of others have commented on this) might be partly the cause/effect of this sluggish/dead zone feeling.
I have had no problem when playing any of the other games I have on the XB1. Obviously games like PCARS, Dirt rally and Assetto Corsa feel better with a wheel than the Forza games do but I still enjoy Forza 6 and FH2 with my wheel.
If you already own or have any interest in playing PCARS or Assetto Corsa then a wheel is definitely worth having.
Maybe just try playing about with the wheel settings and see what works best for you. I’m using the Thrustmaster TX wheel with the steering linearity set to 45 and rotation set to 450 (even though the rotation setting gets reset whenever you start the game!)
I find that gives a good, responsive feeling to the car
