so i am very confused between these 2 tire compounds. im sure everyone knows the drag tires offer way more grip then the race tires do so wouldn’t it make sense to use the drag tires and completely forget about the race compound? some of the forza edition cars even come with drag tires on, for example the nismo gtr LM has drag tires and that thing handles amazing. i still wanna do testing between the 2 compounds but the only thing i can come up with right now is that the drag tire gives you more grip in a straight line and the race tire it better for corners. if soomeone has a better answer please let me know, thanks.
Just like you said…drag tires are for straight line grip and acceleration. Very soft compound that will heat and wear quicker when you have tire wear set to on. Neither tire is very good off most roads. To me it comes down to preference and what you decide to tune for. I have some road/street race tunes using drag tires and I love them. They grip hard and you can pass most cars at the start of the race. I am usually using offroad tires or drag tires but the new vintage tires are really cool too. If you focus on racing and staying on the road then you can always try a set of drag tires if you would like to have amazing grip. Usually you will have a little extra room for more power upgrades while keeping it in a lower class which is another benefit to using the drag tires. You need to tune suspension more using drag tires to get the turning the way you’d like. They do lose a little more speed so that’s another reason to add more power and tune it to turn. Go offroad and your just spinning. Harder to recover than with race tires. I dont usually tune for drifting but drag tires are not what you want for sure. That’s some of my experience. I use them for fun and satisfaction. Somebody else feel free to get more technical
Forgot to mention that you want to be rear wheel drive for use of the drags. Better for turning with RWD and can be at the lightest weight
Drag tires are always preferred!
Specially if it’s available!!
Because it gives that car an all around special ability over the other vehicles that don’t offer you drag tire compound.
For example…
McLaren F1 GT and the Mercedes Benz CLK-GTR AMG
When you make these two vehicles RWD and add drag tires, You simply have instant handling response and can out race most S2s…
