There was a thread going on of why people hate and love VIR and such, so what is your favorite track, division, and why?
I used to loath Long Beach when I first started playing Forza cuz of the tight corners and sheer walls right there(I wasn’t very good when I started). Now I love Long Beach I do Endurance races with full sim damage on in multiclass in P1, P2, and Forza GT configurations.
Laguna. Because it’s a technical track and I find alot of ppl don’t get on with it so it’s good to have confidence where others don’t. Also it’s got great cambers and it looks stunning
Same here - Laguna, except for me it is about learning the license tests way back in the original Gran Turismo days. Those license tests forced you to handle that track with no flaws in driving. I did them so many times it’s near muscle memory now for Laguna.
Sonoma Raceway is probably my favorite. I just really like the flow of that course and all of the ribbons are fun. I can’t put my finger on exactly why I just know every time I see that track come up as the next location I get all warm and fuzzy inside
This is the first game I’ve played with Sonoma in it…at first it was daunting to me…still a bit of a challenge while learning it but love the elevation changes and turns on it…you sure have to make sure you enter and exit your corners or like VIR you’ll be eating a tire wall real quick…very little room for mistakes…
Watkins Glen because I love momentum tracks and seeing just how much speed some cars can carry through corners. It’s a track I could spend a significant amount of time on and feel like no time really passed.
Nordschleife because I never get bored on it. It is a tough but fun track, and ever since FM4 I’ve been taking every car in the game around it and recording its lap time. Even the Isetta. I plan to start it for FM7 soon.
Haha, already started it myself! I do the full circuit (Nordschleife + GP) and pick random a random car each time. I used to do it in Forza 4, but lost the spreadsheet unfortunately. Started it in FM 6 but didn’t get very far due to other games and university. Started it in FM 7 a few days ago, by keeping the times from the cars I did in FM 6 that don’t appear in 7 (Some Toyota’s the Lotus, the F&F cars etc), have gotten through about 10-15 cars at the moment.
Definitely have to agree with the Nordschleife being my favourite, it’s such a long track, and never gets boring. Have already done a 30, 20 and two 12 lap endurance races around it in FM 7, it’s just a blast, especially from the Carousel to the long straight.
Other than the Nordschleife, I think Spa would have to be second. Just a classic track, also quite long, and Eau Rouge is just amazing in the Renault.
I love Road Atlanta, just has a great sense of speed, but just enough technical difficulties to make it tough to master. My next choice would be Maple Valley, just one of my all time favorites.
That’s a tough one… I like Silverstone because it’s home to the British Grand Prix (and not too far from where I live) but if I had to pick a course I enjoy driving around a lot, it would be Hockenheim. I just love the way it flows. It’s technical in places, but there are a couple of fast sections. A lot of the GP tracks are great fun though. That sweeping right-hander at Monza can be epic in the more grippy cars.
In my opinion, the Nürburgring, and the Nordschleife in particular, transcends all other tracks when it comes to many things:
It has an unparalleled length. No two laps are the same, regardless of how well you may know the track. A wide variety of corner types, and the lack of runoff in most places makes it especially challenging.
The scenery is gorgeous. How many other tracks have their own castle?
The diversity of events held there is enormous. It hosts Formula One, truck racing, and a 24-hour race with 150+ entrants. How many other tracks can hold so many vehicles at once?
It’s the only track I know of that allows the common man to drive on it at racing speeds, in their own vehicle.
It’s an excellent overall test of a car’s performance. “If you’re fast on the Nordschleife, you’re fast everywhere.”
I have been driving on the Nürburgring virtually since GT4 came out, and I still think I have much to learn. As for my favorite division, I would have to go with Birth of GP since I find it the most challenging in terms of vehicle control.
I like tracks with flow and a little elevation change. Maple Valley, Watkins Glen, Spa, and Laguna Seca are some of my favorites. Hockenheimring is really the only somewhat level course that I like.
Watkins Glen 20 laps min. Unbeatable with all but ABS off. Just like the flow of the track and how all the different cars handle around it. Just wish it had more weather options. Like Spa as well
I love Road America. Partly because I live very near it and go there a couple times a year, and so know the track well. But also partly because I love the 2 long straights that end in 90 turns (turns 1 and 3), and there’s a bit of elevation change.
Watkins Glen would be a close second. I really enjoy some of the turns (especially 2 and 3) and there’s some nice banking on a few turns.
